Cork 8 controlled pace.

Pope 7 - Nowt to do really, handled well.
Bardsley 8 - I think Lowton is going to have a real fight to get in, good competition here.
Ward 7 - Standard
Tarky - 8 - Didn't give a sniff
Long - 8 I don't understand why folk don't rate Long, he is fine backup, rarely puts much of a foot wrong on the very rare occasions he plays.
Arfield 8 - Took his goal so well, worked hard throughout and linked the midfield and Wood well.
JBG - 8 Always looks our most dangerous player in possession, can drift in and out of games but he gets you on the edge of your seat. Great ball across for the goal.
Cork 6 - Thought he had a quiet-ish game, but didn't do anything wrong per se.
Defour 9 - My MOM, thought he absolutely dominated the midfield again. Hope that wasn't a hammy strain at the end.
Hendrick 6 Very quiet, however, great dummy for Arfield's goal.
Wood 7 Strong as an ox, links play well and is a selfless runner down the channels. Good signing, suits this system well.

Great performance - again.

Pope 8 Did nothing wrong and his distribution is excellent
Bardsley 8 Kept Richarlison pretty quiet
Long 8
Tarks 9 although could have conceded another pen in first half
Ward 7 solid as always
JBG 8 Great assist for goal
Cork 6 Not his best game
Defour 9 tremendous MOM
Arfield 7 Was awful before the goal then got better as game progressed. Quality finish
Hendrick 6 Missing for long periods
Wood 7 Good target man and worked hard

A good 3 points against a good away team. Not our best by any means but job done.

Watch our goal again CC, I missed it until I saw the replay - look at the dummy Hendrick plays to let Arfield in

Arfield, well done.
Long, well done.
Dyche, well done for ignoring all the halfwits on here who keep banging on about these two not being good enough. Especially Long.

Solid group. Some outstanding performances, notably from the Bard, Wardy, Gud, Long, Arf and Tarks who get an 8. But I can't see beyond Defour (9) for MOM. Zipped the ball around and mopped up any untidy mess.

Like a conductor with an orchestra, and not a bum note to be heard.

We're where we are in the table largely because of him. Player of the season so far imo.

Pope 7 - Nothing to do
Bardsley 8 -Might be wrong but feels like he has a nasty streak in him! ;-0 - Love him
Long 8 - Never been convinced by SD's trust in this lad but I know diddly and he did well today.
Tarks 8 - Very composed and steady
Ward 8 - Missing Brady I feel as a go to for distribution but very steady
JBG 9 - MOM for me. Really stepping up at the moment.
Defour 8 - - Class act
Cork 7 - Not at his best but still mainly effective.
Arfield - 8 Such a tidy finisher and stepped in for Robbie but we did miss RB
Hendrick - 7 Starting to look a bit powder puff in challenges but he does thinsg that bring about goals
Wood 7 - Not given that much support today but led the line ok

Barnesy 7 - Does what Ashley does. Love him

Very nervous before the game and after 15 minutes would have take a draw with Ben out but such a great 3 points even though we did not really press home our 1 man advantage but that is par for the course for us anyway. Happy Happy Days.

Long 8 well played
Tarks 9 imperious

JBG 8 offensively a threat. Invaluable atm
Cork 7 quietly controlled things
Defour 9 immense. Really involved in everything
Arfield 7 great 1st half but disappeared for long spells
Hendrick 6 quiet
Wood 7 decent, unselfish.

Barnes 6 ok

Pope - 8 - Solid and some brilliant distribution
Barnsley - 8 - Solid performance and was great in the air and carrying the ball
Tarkowski - 9- Very composed and brilliant today
Long - 8 - Looked pretty good considering he hasn't played. Looked nervous but dealt with the front three well
Ward - 7 - Found tons of space today but crossing wan't great
JBG - 8 - Love the man. His control of the ball is sublime
Defour - *9* - He was everywhere and always wanted the ball. Passes were brilliant
Cork - 7 - Reliable, as always
Hendrick - 6 - I like Jeff but today he didn't see much of the ball
Arfield - 8 - Typical Scotty finish - accurate and composed. Second half he was brilliant
Wood - 8 - Hold up play was excellent

Barnes - 8 - Such a great player to bring on to draw out a game. Unlucky not to get a goal

Looking at today’s ratings from others goes to prove how people see football in so many different ways (it’s one of the many reasons I love it) and also that I think I am now becoming so used to us competing at this level that I was disappointed in our general performance today (maybe I need to watch it back).

Pope 6 - did what he needed to do
Bardsley 7 - very solid and loves a tackle
Ward 5 - I thought he was wasteful in possession
Tarkowski 7 - looks every bit a top premiership defender
Long 7 - looked good
Cork 5 - looked uncomfortable in possession. Wasteful and hurried at times
Defour 7 - good all round display
JBG 8 - a real threat MOM
Arfield 6 - Took his goal really well with great composure but thought in general possession he was another who was wasteful
Hendrick 5 - great dummy but I thought he struggled to get into the game
Wood 8 - led the line really well and dominated their centre halves

Barnes 5 - won some good free kicks but didn’t help us retain the possession that i thought at the time we needed to control the game better.

You're right, you must be used to us competing because no one could be disappointed with the performance today.

Watford could have overtaken us today and were definitely a threat in the first 10 - 15 minutes.

We did a good job on them today. Had it not been for Gomez, that would have been 3 or 4 - Nil

Spot on is that. We saw them off after their good start. But for Gomez it would have been a very comfortable win.

Just had the feel to me of us being wasteful and untidy in possession, slow to react and all against 10 men. I felt Watford were always in the game and that we didn’t dominate at any point. We created opportunities no doubt, but the performances v Swansea and arsenal were much better. I maybe being a bit harsh / expecting too much, but I did enjoy the win and the fact it felt like we won when below par.

The only team below us at the time of playing that have beaten us is Leicester and that was pretty close. Fantastic, I am back in the early 70's.

Nowt wrong with that at all, and Watford are a bunch of whingers

Defour and Cork ran the midfield again, JBG probably MOM and Long did really well considering who he was against.

Pope 7 - commanded his area really well and did what needed to be done
Bardsley 7 - solid
Tarkowski 8 - immense
Long 7 - did well
Ward 6 - I've got to be honest, he's still dependable but he's been a bit iffy since the Ireland game v Denmark
Arfield 7 - scored, and was a lot better second half
Cork 7 - did what we have come to expect
Defour 8 - ran the show, and he knows how to go down when chopped in half
Hendrick 6 - quiet, but his dummy for the goal was quality
JBG 9* - on the top of his game at the moment, and long may it continue
Wood 7 - did well, but faded a bit when Barnes came on

Barnes 5 - not great it has to be said

Its great to be where we are, and long may it continue

Pope 7. One of his quieter games.
Beardsley 7. Steady Eddie. His booking seemed harsh.
Long 8. Had my doubts before the game but hands up, I don't remember him putting a foot wrong.
Tarkowski 8. Sweeney. Back pocket.
Ward 7. Did he have anyone to mark?
Gudmundsson 9. Great feet and he's becoming a very influential player for us.
Cork 7. Solid.
Defour 9. Magnificent! One sublime pass in particular (only bettered by Tarks pass to no-one) through to Arfield that should have resulted in a goal.
Airfield 7. Took his goal well.
Wood 7. Work hard without much end result.
Hendrick 6. Is this really his best position because he doesn't bring a lot to the game.
Barnes 5. Won a few free kicks to ease some pressure late on.

Pope 7-Did he make a save? Not a great deal to do but excellent presence.
Bardsley 8-It would be hard for SD to drop PB once Lowton's fit off this form.
Long 7-I was a little concerned but Longy has certainly matured as a CD.
Tarkowski 9-First half he was exceptional.
Ward 7-Solid as ever.
Guðmundsson 8-Get him on a new contract before the World Cup. This guy has huge potential.
Defour 9*- MOM just from Tarks.
Cork 7-Became more influential as the match wore on.
Arfield 7-Took his goal well and improved his confidence as the game progressed.
Hendrick 6-Thought he was very much off the pace and on the periphery.
Wood 7-Think at times he could time his runs better but his hold up play is v good at times.

Barnes 7-Did well when he came on and should have been on for Hendrick well before he was introduced.

WBA also unfortunately.

Pope 7 Not much to do
Ward 7 Seemed to be struggling a bit with a groin strain
Long 7 Steady if unspectacular
Tarks 8 Largely untroubled
Bardsley 8 Just pipped for MOM by Defour for me
Joey - 7 Great 1st half, faded a bit 2nd
Defour 9* My MOM, showed a lot of bottle after the crunching tackle that saw whatisname sent off and always showing for the ball. Knackered by the end and hope he's ok for Tuesday coz this guy is class in a glass.
Cork 8 As we've come to expect
Airfield 8 Grew into the game and took his goal well
Hendrick 6 Not his best game for us and rightly subbed
Wood 7 Good hold up play, unlucky not to be on the scoresheet

I was a bit concerned before the game and thought this was a 50/50 call.
As it turned out apart from maybe a 10 min spell when Watford were on top it was a fairly comfortable win and the margin of victory could have been greater but for some very good saves by Gomez and some iffy decisions from the officials.

When does his contract run out? Defour needs a new one as well...

Just about did enough - we probably should have made the game more comfortable in the second half, but we were just about on top when the sending off (rightly) came, and I suspect we'd have won the game regardless.

Pope - 7 - Steady enough on a tricky day although he wasn't that involved.

Bardsley - 6 - Did OK against Richarlison, although he does tend to dive in occasionally and the booking in the second half was one such unnecessary occasionally, and he might have given away a penalty first half when he gave Richarlison to the opportunity to make a meal of an unnecessary tug of the shirt. His tendancy to underlap rather than overlap deprived us of width on occasions.

Ward - 6 - Not quite at his best - a little tentative on occasion defensively, and not at his most free flowing going forwards either.

Tarkoswki - 8 - Stepped into command the defence with aplomb in Mee's absence - he's growing before our very eyes week by week, although he might have given away a penalty in the second half with a slightly clumsy tackle.

Long - 8 - Really assured and reliable - showed a real turn of pace when required, did well on the ball and showed all the tools that make Dyche have such faith in him.

Cork - 7 - Steady and reliable, even if not the influence on our passing game today that he has been at his best.

Defour - 9 - Run the game almost single handedly in the first half when he was absolutely immense, and maintained a really high level into the second half until he began to tire a little in the last 15 minutes. Kudos to him for the way he appeared to be actively encouraging JBG to have set plays, when no doubt he might have wanted to be centre of attention himself.

Hendrick - 6 - Great dummy for the goal, and a couple of other really telling passes in the first half that could have resulted in more (on one occasion in particular Wood should have done better having been played in in a good position), but a little bit in and out before he was surprisingly withdrawn early.

Gudmundsson - 8 - A bit untidy in the first 15 minutes when he seemed to be trying a bit too hard in Brady's absence, but the free kick seemed to settle him down and after that he was largely excellent. His set pieces were also worthy of note - probably the most threatening set of dead ball deliveries we've seen all season.

Arfield - 8 - A lovely finish for his goal, after a superb first touch to get beyond the defender, and generally busy, composed and involved. Took up excellent positions between the lines and, whilst he doesn't replicate Brady's trickery, he did what he does really well.

Wood - 6 - Did OK and was a useful focal point to our attack, but didn't really get a sniff of goal and was guilty of failing to play in teammates a few times.

Barnes - 6 - A bit unlucky that his disallowed goal was chalked off, but he'd already cost us a goal by being completely unnecessarily offside when Cork tapped across to Wood (neither of whom were offside), and for all his hustle and bustle this was one of those occasions when his tendency to disrupt the flow of the game worked against us rather than for us, and his link up game was frustratingly untidy.

Watford had their moments in this game and for all their whining, they showed at times why they're so highly rated. The sending odd oughtnt to be open to debate, but Watford can feel a bit aggrieved that they didn't get at least one penalty, although we could have one our selves and were at least unfortunate Barnes' disallowed goal didn't stand. We played some decent stuff at times, with Defour linking up nicely with Arfield between the lines and Gudmundsson adding width and flair to our game. But we got dragged into a stop start game at times, particularly in the second half, which suited the 10 men. But its a sign of how far we've come that there's any disappointment about a 1-0 win against a team 8th in the Premier League, to put ourselves 6 points clear in 7th. These really are remarkable times.

A brillant win!!!! I wasn`t TOO confident, especially with Mee being out. A nailed-on red card too!

Pope 8

Bardsley 7
Tarkowski 9 MOM the commentators waxed lyrical about him all game
Long 8
Ward 7

Gudmundsson 9 (a coin flip for MOM)
Cork 8
Defour 8
Arfield 8 (thought he had a quiet start, then a great goal which lead to an excellent 2nd half)

Hendrick 6 (bang average for me)
Wood 6 (thought this was one of his quieter games...bullied a bit by their centre-halves)

6s do seem low BUT the ratings say `6 - average` so there you are!

What a season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
