Here here. As a nation productivity is suffering due to the skills required in a modern high tech economy not being as good as our competitors. Can you imagine a German or Japanese beggar just sitting there ?randomclaret2 wrote:Nice to see the Christmas spirit alive and well

Re: It's about time Burnley's beggars raised their game .
They want me to give them money for doing F all. The least I expect back is effort. Last month I had to do a four day training course to qualify for a salary increase in the region if 1.7% therefore my usual fifty pence in the hat should go up by a penny or so therefore I ask again what has the beggar done to justify it ?randomclaret2 wrote:Youve lost me tbh...

Im with you now.Maybe you could swap places with them seeing as they have it so easy. Tonight might be a good time to start. .... minus 6 overnight.

Hmmmm. Do you honestly believe they are really homeless or just using the cash to buy booze or drugs ? Tell you what I'll swop places with any of the homeless that you don't offer to take in tonight for a good night sleep and some wholesome food.randomclaret2 wrote:Im with you now.Maybe you could swap places with them seeing as they have it so easy. That's assuming that they're really homeless. Most homeless charities agree that 90% of beggars on streets aren't actually homeless.

I'd guess at a split. Some will, some won't. The problem is, you never really know who is sleeping under cardboard and who is begging and then going back to their 2 bedroomed flat.bfcjg wrote:Hmmmm. But I do often wonder, how... or better still, why, should a homeless person have a dog. If they can't pay for themselves correctly, they shouldn't be allowed to look after a dog.

When I'm on a night out in Leeds and I get a hotdog/burger from a random van, I'll often buy one for someone sat on the streets. Giving them money just seems daft, as I'm sure a lot of them are addicted to drugs.
I doubt the dealer will accept a a beef burger with a slathering of mustard and barbecue sauce.

Yes, I found out last year that by putting on a few old clothes, sitting in Oxford street and just begging with a polystyrene cup I could earn over £30k, before tax.BabylonClaret wrote:That's assuming that they're really homeless. There only used to be one male, whom I'm sure most people would recognise, that was genuinely sleeping under cardboard boxes round the back of the probation office. I think he has somewhere to stop now.
For these people who are regularly out begging in Burnley town centre, they have a roof over their heads and their lifestyle is no doubt down to choices they have made in the past
Trust me, they certainly have access to money

The Telegraph has a story 'Police survey finds just one in 10 beggars are homeless' - the site isn't loading up though when I checked.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Trying to work out if this is a serious post.

There’s a chap on the streets in Maidstone with a ferret on a lead.
He gets a bit of dosh, and we get to see a ferret on a lead.
Everybody’s happy.

Please don't give money to beggars.
Give donations to homelessness charities instead.
They're not perfect but the money will at least go towards providing genuine help.

A firm but polite 'no' is the best response.
Re: It's about time Burnley's beggars raised their game .
Thats the ticket a bit of effort a bit of entertainment. Skill up beggars and your earnings will rise accordingly. Best one i have ever seen was on the front at Playa Blanca stones mounted on top of each other, sand sculpture, accordian and a small cute goat for the kids. Worth the five euros i gave him. Initiative and something for all the family.TsarBomba wrote:There’s a chap on the streets in Maidstone with a ferret on a lead.

His house must be crowded with the numbers he has taken in. Most of them on the streets are the ones even housing associations have given up on due to anti social behaviour, rent arrears they get the housing benefit paid to them then don't pay the rent and trashing properties.scouseclaret wrote:Bit of Pie...

Re: It's about time Burnley's beggars raised their game .
A very heart warming sight this morning, outside Aldi the one nearest the town centre sat a chap polite, clean, with a small tub for donations but he was doing something he was playing an accordian in tune and the music befitting a nice sunny day. Not being a hypocrite I gave him a pound (well you have to get rid of the old ones somehow) when he thanked me he was obviously foreign taking full advantage of the free movement of people filling the skills gap because our beggars are lazy and need to raise their collective game.
Bravo to him though.

Looked at the thread title and pretty much knew what was coming.
First of all I have no time for proper skiving wasters.
Many people have genuinely fallen on hard times though, often just a victim of circumstance and bad luck, and struggling as a result of welfare cuts, austerity and a complete 100% absence of that pile of bolllox usually referred to as ‘the trickle-down effect..’ ( what a lie and a con that has been since Day One).
Predictably a few on here love to have a go at those who are struggling and begging, because they can then look down on them, and therefore feel much better about themselves.
This is a very wealthy country and we should do much better for those who are worse off, and in need of some help.

My wife always gives to the chap under the walkway to the bus station after the game. The amount she gives depends upon how many goals are scored in the match. He did well when we beat Sunderland 4-1 last season

I was out on the beer in town with a mate of mine. As we made our way from the red lion towards the big window, I gave a lad who was begging a couple o quid.bfcjg wrote:Pathetic bunch. My mate said "why are you giving him that? He's only gonna blow it on fags, drink n drugs!"
"It's only what you're about to do" I replied.
Before you condemn somebody for the plight they find themselves in. Spend a day in their shoes and live a day in their life.
