Identifying a Miscellaneous Article from late 80s / early-mid 90s

This is somewhat of a needle in a haystack admittedly.

Back when we were crap, and i mean totally crap, I can recall reading some kind of article that predicted us back in Europe.

From what I can recall, the article featured some kind of projection of how a European League might look. It listed the usual suspects, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid etc and amongst them all was Burnley. It featured some kind of league tables, as predicted in the future.

I'm sure this article was around 1992, give or take.

This article way pre-dates my internet days so I definitely saw this in a hard copy newspaper. The only papers I was viewing on a regular basis at this time were the MEN and the Manchester Pink. To be truthful I don't think it was in either of them so I have no clue really where I saw it. Memory tells me it was some kind of magazine.

This was a time when there were no aspirations, absolutely none, of BFC ever competing in Europe, ever. And there were no signs that we would ever again reach the top flight, let alone anything better.

The article sticks in my mind because I could see that someone somewhere had a faith in us to bounce back from obscurity to a place that none of us could ever have dreamed possible in a lifetime. It sort of gave me hope that someone knew something more than any other Burnley fan knew at that point. Or maybe that the whole nation knew that Burnley would again rise to the top, the nation that is except for those actually following Burnley.

I know that I didn't dream this, the article at the time resonated because it was so far-fetched. But it existed.

What the F&*%ing H&ll was it?

Whatever it was, it has outdone Mystic Meg by a country mile.

Where was Tony Livesey working at the time?

My bet would be a Claret journalist.

According to Wiki (yep), 18 years at Sport Newspapers ending August 2006.

So there's half a shout it could have been him, does he still look in occasionally?

Champions League appears to have come to fruition 1992/1993 so the article could have been linked to this.

Would be great to actually find this article.

I'm guessing one of the fanzines, or "When Saturday Comes " ??
