Cycling
Always thought it looked tough going. Turns out they've pretty much all got acute asthma. I might have a go at the Tour next year since I haven't got asthma. I reckon that gives me a head start. Unless, of course, they haven't really got asthma at all. I'll know better after the first stage.

The French press and the Guardian will be going for the jugular on this with Froome and Sky

This is not just cyclists. Footballers and athletes also abuse this ridiculous rule.thatdberight wrote:Always thought it looked tough going. Turns out they've pretty much all got acute asthma. If you suffer from asthma then suffer, you are not a world class athlete.
Drug free sport should be drug free.

Re: Cycling
It has reached the stage where you shouldn't go to your own doctor but a neutral race doctor appointed by the UCI or WADA.

Agree - should have been like that for years now in realitypiston broke wrote:It has reached the stage where you shouldn't go to your own doctor but a neutral race doctor appointed by the UCI or WADA.
On a side note it would be interesting to correlate the one day of 21 he failed the test to his performance that day and the time to when he took his "allowed" dose and when he actually supplied the sample

All I'd say is that you have to be whiter than white, especially if you criticize other cyclists of the same thing you've been found guilty of.

I was wondering that. He had a poor finish on Cumbre Del Sol, his only poor day. I'd be very suspicious if it was the next day.Chester Perry wrote:Agree - should have been like that for years now in reality

Re: Cycling
What did Shane Sutton say in that recent BBC doc- something along the lines of “do anything as long as it’s within the rules”. The rules allow treatment of asthma up to a limit. He was over the limit on one of the 21 days which to me suggests they’re working the system on the thinnest of thin lines.
It’s reminiscent of the old EPO rules where you were allowed up to 50% red blood cells so everyone raced on 49% to avoid suspension.
It’s so disheartening and I agree with above that surely independent doctors are needed for any medical conditions.

Re: Cycling
Isn't there something were you can develop asthma when you really push the body endurance wise? That might - partly - explain the amount of people requiring asthma medication.

Re: Cycling
The failed test was from 7th September - Stage 18 - Froome finished that day 10:08 back from the winner on the day but crucially clawed back to Contador and regained much of his time lost to Niballi in the preceeding Mountain stage. That said much of the work was done by Moscon and Poels

Froome claims to have suffered with it since childhood.Foulthrow wrote:Isn't there something were you can develop asthma when you really push the body endurance wise? That might - partly - explain the amount of people requiring asthma medication.
Re: Cycling
To make it less complicated they should ban all potentially performance enhancing drugs. Endurance cycling is largely down to physiology .... so if yours isn't up to it due to some ailment then tough ... that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Just out of curiousity, what has The Guardian got to do with this ?
I would imagine the press of all the major cycling nations will be all over this not just the French.
