Re: Ugliest cars
Yea, my mate bought unusual fast cars the fuego being one.
His alfetta was a real shed but stupid fast, went to the chippy at dinner once, the throttle cable had snapped and being operated with mole grips through the dashboard.

What if you require a 4x4 throughout the year to drive in fields etc?...IanMcL wrote:Any 4x4 on the road, where weather and road conditions do not warrant it.

4x4 are ideal for fields. They can be beautiful in fields!

Re: Ugliest cars
If you grease the grease nipples at service intervals then suspension parts will last longer than any modern car. Also if you service your own brakes they are good enough to lock the wheels in agressive braking. There is also the option of fitting a brake servo unit to bring it up to modern day standard LOLLowbankclaret wrote:I agree.
My step dad was Minor nut. I had two Minors, once had the front suspension come away and was grinding away on the stub axle until it came to a stop.
The Minor was ok but it was the brakes, they were never just good enough.

Re: Ugliest cars
Speaking of cars now rare, not necessarily ugly, I wonder how many of the ridiculously mental Lotus Carltons there are left on the road.
My bet is that with their stupidly powerful engines, rear wheel drive, and no traction control, most of them ended their days backwards in hedges and dry stone walls.

Re: Ugliest cars
But you need to drive them on the road come rain or sunshine to get to those fields too I agree though, the pinnacle off-roading for most is mounting the curb on the school run.IanMcL wrote:I think the statement is clear.

Was that the car you had to do a track day before you could take ownership of it. New of course, secondhand no one had any control.Lord Beamish wrote:Speaking of cars now rare, not necessarily ugly, I wonder how many of the ridiculously mental Lotus Carltons there are left on the road.

There were some mental cars back then.
cosworth powered Mercs and Fords.
Some Jap missiles.
Not forgetting the Audi Quattro which I always wanted.
Oh and the Metro 6r4, saw two on the road, now that was a beast.

Fiat Multipla.
Never looked good even at launch. I suspect the person who designed it had buck teeth, thick glasses, a broken nose, bald head and dandruff. It was their revenge on mankind.

Ah Lancia, that brings back memories of watching the Lancia Delta doing the business back in the 80's in the RAC rally, great car.Lowbankclaret wrote:NNN!
The Riva was Russia's reincarnation of the Fiat 124 on which it was based. Fiat sold several old cars designs that were then built by other countries.
Due to this the best modification to the Riva was to fit a 2 litre fiat twin cam engine, a seriously scary car that created.
There were other scary cars, I owned a Nissan Silvia 2 litre Dohc homologation car. From a standing start at Manchester/Rossendale road lights it could hit 130 mph going up the hill. The 1.8 turbo version I owned later could manage about 105.
The MG montego Turbo, scary as hell. Torque steer on that baby could put you in a ditch.
Then there were Lancias, you could get turbo boost kits so you had a dial on the dash, one twist a 175 bhp car became a 250 bhp monster

Re: Ugliest cars
I have one as one of my cars. I live in a hilly area and it drives straight through snow and ice when my other slides around. Can't see the issue. I think you are referring to owners in v flat urban areas doing school runs. Many of these vehicles are not actually 4x4s but 2 wheel drive 4x4 look a likes. If you are putting kids and equipment in the ride height is ideal.IanMcL wrote:I think the statement is clear.

The original Multipla is a nice looking car, when you work out which way it is going. https://imgur.com/a/Qe9uc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
