Anything made by Chrysler
Minis that aren't remotely mini ( some are bigger than crossovers or executive cars so I think they need a rebrand there )

Historically you can’t really look much further than the Austin Allegro, it’s repolacement the Maestro, and, lest we forget, the Austin Princess/Ambassador.

So go on then.
What's your issue with Dacia?
Virtually all its models have won prestigious awards over the past 5 years, and with a good Renault engine and design at bargain price, I can't see any major issue with them. (Unless of course you simply don't like that type of car, and want something a lot more up-market and correspondingly expensive).

How very dare you, I have owned all those magnificent cars. The Allegro was awesome in the snow due to not having enough power to spin the wheels so it just inched forwards no matter what.
The Meastro was an MG version, 150 bhp flying machine.
The princess just glided along the road.

Best thing was they mega cheap and easy to fix.

I remember doing the clutch in the Meastro and it took me about 3 hours. Easy as to fit.

Last this year did my Land Rover Freelander clutch and that took me 20 hours. No concept of design for maintenance.

Din't Allegro owners get a free wheel changing service because the windscreen popped out if you used the jacking points? You always knew there was an Allegro somewhere in front on a motorway, loads of smoke and the smell of burning oil.

Had a company peugeot 309 in the early 90's that was pretty damn ugly with an awful diesel engine plucked straight out a tractor :-( Had it for 3 years and counted the days until I could get rid.

Don't remember the jacking pint issue.
The engine was the old reliable a series. Pushrod engine that would run for
Ever and was so easy to fix I could teach a baby to fix it.

The smoke issue was due to people constantly clocking them so the clock said 50000 and the car had done 200000.

I think this is a great thread could run for a while I believe the saying 'Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder' certainly is when it comes to vehicles. I once bought a Citroen BX from Walker Farrimond it was a Marmite car I needed practical reliability and I got it I carried quite heavy equipment and the variable suspension was superb it was a 1700 non turbo diesel and the fuel return was amazing I also needed to renew every 2 - 3 years and although the BX was phased out I was so impressed with the whole Citroen thing I bought Xantias until I finally retired from the business I was in.

The Citroen Cactus is hideous. Some genius decided to include some crappy plastic bumps on the sides to prevent the potential damage caused by things banging into the side of the car. What kind of idiot thought that it was a good idea to ruin the appearance of a car to minimise the risk of someone else ruining the appearance of the car?

NNN!
The Riva was Russia's reincarnation of the Fiat 124 on which it was based. Fiat sold several old cars designs that were then built by other countries.
Due to this the best modification to the Riva was to fit a 2 litre fiat twin cam engine, a seriously scary car that created.

There were other scary cars, I owned a Nissan Silvia 2 litre Dohc homologation car. From a standing start at Manchester/Rossendale road lights it could hit 130 mph going up the hill. The 1.8 turbo version I owned later could manage about 105.

The MG montego Turbo, scary as hell. Torque steer on that baby could put you in a ditch.

Then there were Lancias, you could get turbo boost kits so you had a dial on the dash, one twist a 175 bhp car became a 250 bhp monster

In my experience and reading up, it's the electrics which is often the problem with Renaults.

I'am a car fan and also an ex mechanic. I feel the need to say that there are not many cars about today with good asthetic character. I would go as far to say that over the last 30 or more years cars have become astheticaly boring in reguards the cars that the average man can afford. Many cars look the same across the board. There is a trend for more plastic and conformity lol. P.S one of my cars is a Morris minor! "a thing of beauty and individualism"

Never owned one due to the issues friends turned up at my foot with, with their trusty Renault.

Renault really made diy mechanics work very difficult, friend of mind could have been killed by a Renault Fuego. He tried changing the front strut but did not know the fuego was a car with no strut top. The escaping spring just missed him and went through the wooden garage side.

I have to say Italian cars electrics were far worse.

But for sheer lack of thought for maintenance has to be Alfa. On the Alfa sud you had to remove the engine and gearbox to replace the handbrake cable. On the Alfetta, another scary car, you had to remove the back axle to replace the rear brake pads.

Although the worst issue I remember which killed Lancia as a marque in the U.K. Was the engines falling out due to the car literally rusting away.

I agree.
My step dad was Minor nut. I had two Minors, once had the front suspension come away and was grinding away on the stub axle until it came to a stop.
The Minor was ok but it was the brakes, they were never just good enough.

The Renault Fuego. There’s a blast from the past. I wonder if there are any examples of this car still in existence. They were ridiculously quick(especially the turbo version), totally tail-happy, and prone to rotting in structural places.
