No. Far from it. It just reminded me of one of my favourite comedy moments.FactualFrank wrote:Haha, yes. This was discussed several weeks ago, so common knowledge really. If that's a problem there's the foe list but I'm sure we can both get on.

Bob Mortimer is superb. I don't have 50 minutes to spare but I think every tale on WILTY has been true.

Nowhere near the best stand up, but this routine from Paul Foot is genius.

I saw Mick Miller at Burnley Mechanics a few weeks back as part of many Mersyside acts. He was absolutely hilarious, proper old fashioned stand up comedian.

Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
He’s had me in creases a few times on that show. His tales are outlandish and the characters have ridiculous names, but the story is always true. He’s one of the most naturally funny guys I’ve seen on tv.FactualFrank wrote:Bob Mortimer is superb. I don't have 50 minutes to spare but I think every tale on WILTY has been true.
As for stand up I’d probably have to go for Stewart Lee. I can understand him not being everyone’s cup of tea and the format of his shows are samey, but he has the ability to make me laugh in the gaps between dialogue with his timing.

Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Depends on the mood. I've seen Bill Bailey and Sean Lock live at the Oxford theatre, both were superb.
Also, Rik and Ade?
Favs from TV, LP,CD, DVD, Youtube etc.
No Refunds - Doug Stanhope, Wreck on Tour - Billy Connolly, Stewart Lee - 41st best stand up comedian ever, according to C4, Bill Hicks - Relentless.
There's probably a few I've missed as well that need a rewatch.

Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Mark Watson is good. Greg Davies, Mickey Flanagan, Peter Kay all very funny. Watched Paul Chowdhry last week and he was ok. I do love a bit of comedy.
Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Amazed that there only appears to be one shout for Billy Connelly. If you haven't watched some of his DVD's comedy shows give them a try. Brilliant comedian in his hey day, lucky enough to of seen him live too. Sadly quite poorly these days.
Also enjoyed Al Murray live in pub landlord guise. Very clever comedian.

Many years ago Jasper Carror and Phil Cool appeared at the Mechanics together trying out their planned tour. That was a treat. Both very funny men.karatekid wrote:Richard Pryor

Different types of stand up but all funny in their own way.
Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Stewart Lee was great at The Lowry earlier this year. He's a bit marmite I guess but I think he's a very funny guy.
I've changed over the years though. Stewart Lee is quite different to my old days of seeing Lee Evans in Halifax and Blackburn back in the late 90s. He used to crack me up big time. Horses for courses I suppose. Most comedians are funny if you're in the right mood for them.
Chris Ramsey was funnier than I thought he'd be when I saw him in Sowerby Bridge a couple of years ago. Reginald D Hunter was quality at the Comedy Store as well.

Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Seen a good few over the years. My favourites I've seen live are Peter Kay and Lee Mack.
Others include Jason Manford, Kevin Bridges, Russel Brand and Frank Skinner. Not on the same level, although enjoyable for their own reasons.

Saw Mick Miller a some months ago at Burnley mechanics and he was hilarious.

BUMP!... Jasper Carrott is on the list.
He was talking about how he went to the airport recently to catch a flight and went into the shop to buy a sandwich and an apple. He got to the counter and told the girl, "Sorry, I've only got a £50 note".
She replied, "ahhh, well you'll have to put the apple back then."

Aye, Doddy was great, saw him 3 or 4 times over the last 20 years or so - he was a genius entertainer and seemed to get a real high from making people laugh, couldnt stop him once he was in stride.
Billy Connolly and Dave Allen were very good in their time.
I'm not familiar enough with the modern comedians but I find Peter Kaye pretty good (especially at laughing at some northern characteristics).

Re: Who are your favourite stand up comedians?
Just had a read through this (missed it first time around) and I'm amazed at no mention (that I noticed) of Robin Williams. Him and Conolly are, in my view, two of the funniest human beings ever to walk this good earth. For anyone who has never seen it Williams' Live at the Met from the 80's it is side splittingly funny, the first time I saw it I was laughing so much I got stomach ache. Unfortunately for Williams he had his dark side which of course is what killed him in the end but then many good commedians are manic/depressives (Milligan/Hancock/Fry etc.). It seems the ability to make people laugh often goes hand-in-hand with that awful monster depression.

No shout yet for Eddie Izzard.
Probably not everyone's cup of tea (story telling and weirdness rather than jokes) but some of his older stuff I'll happily shove on the Dress To Kill, Glorious or Definite Article tour DVDs whenever I need a laugh.

Steven Wright. American stand up, as dry as anyone and also the voice of "K-Billy's Super Sounds of the Seventies" Reservoir Dogs ear removal scene.
Al Murray. Bill Bailey. Lenny Bruce, Dave Alan, Billy Connolly. Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer.
Ross Noble, funny but completely unoriginal, he just copies Billy Connolly 's whole show even down to the motorcycle and Antipodean road trips.
