Just wondering how many people on here still actually buy a paper copy ?

I've bought it ever since I moved here nearly 30 years ago, but reading this week's Friday edition, I'm again wondering why I bother ! Nothing really of any interest, the Clarets are much better covered on here, and apart from Court cases, Roger Frost's droning on about " Owd Burnley " and Julie Cooper's usual " puff piece " telling us all what a great job she's doing etc, it's very thin gruel !
Even the letters page, which used to be quite interesting, is now full of " via Email " letters, mostly lifted from " The Yorkshire Post " & " Blackpool Gazette ".... a friend of mine has written three letters recently, politely critical of the Council leadership, none of which has been either acknowledged or published !

Moving out of the town centre hasn't won them any friends either, their offices are now in a Business Centre on Liverpool Road. Perhaps it's time to ditch the Tuesday edition, and produce one paper a week that's worth buying !!

Local papers been dying for years.
Several 'nationals' now not available in hard copy.
- I would give most local papers like the Burnley Express, about 24/30 months at best.
- pity..used to love reading it.

The internet takes it !

Local paper(s) in suburbs of London have been delivered free for many years. I can't think they'd exist if they weren't pushed through letter-boxes at no charge.

Yes, tough business selling hard-copy newspapers.

I have the Nelson leader delivered each week, purely as it gives me something quick to flick through over lunch and laugh over the letters pages.

I do find myself muttering about the cost and what you get.

the papers were all we had once, but thankfully they are no longer needed,
journalism is and was stifled and dull.I know many decent ones began with local press, but the nature of a paper like the express is usually dreary.
Some inane local poet, letters stating the obvious, and stupidly captioned photos of people just doing things.

Been lots of redundancies at the Lancs telegraph recently.
I don’t know how papers survive.

Writing a letter of complaint about the council is binned.The council writing a piece in the paper about something trivial is major headlines.get rid of the Friday one and keep the Tuesday one with centre pull outs of our football teams latest victory and all the action pictures!

Tonight's edition actually has a " Christmas Message " from the Labour Leader of the Council, I'd thought this sort of thing was for the Queen, the Pope, or the Archbishop of Canterbury ! Clearly, I'm wrong !

That's where they are going wrong.... No one knows there's a Thursday edition.

There are just the same amount of stories and issues as always, but probably not the circulation to justify the wage bill for the journalism needed to deliver.

The days when local rags held their local authorities to account are long gone. They no longer have the resources to cover council committee meetings. Same with local investigative journalism - it costs too much money. They are on their last legs and the hard-copy national press isn't too far behind them. Only 'free' sheets and online will survive in the future.

Stopped about a year ago. Printed miles away from Burnley full of adverts and little or no incisive journalism.

Same with the local paper here, WelwynHatfield Times.

Printed and edited in Norwich, no local reporters anymore and news taken direct from the police or social media.
