sky pundits including graham poll need to go to spec savers....surely a player has to make contact for a penalty ?

Despicable character that Dele Ali - definite dive, although BT commentators appear to have sand in their eyes!
He won't get a three match ban though

It was definitely a penalty. Kevin Long has been found out a few times already tonight.

Two game maximum.
If pundits want to go into if it should be a penalty technically Alli and Kane should not be playing.

several times this year our defenders have given the opponents the opportunity to cheat....they shouldnt be making challenges in wide areas of the penalty box near to the goal line...should just get their bodies between them and goal and try to usher away from the box...its just an excuse for the opposition to cheat.

completely disagree Joey...he threw himself over even before any sort of challenge...there was absolute minimal contact after that.

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
Long didn't need to make the challenge or contact with Dele Ali as he was going away from goal..............he did make contact and ALI made the most of it-...........Its a penalty unfortunately and poor defending.

Was on his way down long before Long went towards him, hooks his left leg under Long - don't even think there was contact prior to his tumble

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
I have watched it, a few times. I can understand why it was given but Ali was going to ground miles before any contact was made, if any actually was made.
Cheating dive. Long had no need to do it.
I bet we wouldn't have had it given for us, but who knows, there's no parallel universe.

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
I also understand why a ref would give it....he sees a leg going across and an attacker going to ground....we have been victim of this cheating too many times....our Sean is going to be spitting feathers if that goal costs us today.
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
It'll be at least 3, so the penalty is irrelevant

Phook me you lot..It was a definite penalty,if it was the other way round you would have been screaming blue murder if it wasn't given.. Spurs are far the better side and if we are going to get anything out of this game we need to get hold of the ball and start playing some decent football. Just my take on it..lol

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
even Gerard and Janus need their eyes testing...and both advocating cheating as well....not sure how big a monitor they are looking at but both saying that their was contact on his knee....just cannot see any no matter how many times I view it...Ali caught longs calf with his trailing leg and that was that......stupid by long to try and have a nibble in an area that wasnt going to be an obvious goal threat.

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
First time I saw it I thought it was a penalty but when watching the replays Alli was going down before any sort of contact with Long. The way the game is now, that will be given as a penalty, but it’s this sort of “gamesmanship” that infuriates me and the majority of people on here. It’s the fact that you can cheat to “win” a penalty and it’s not seen as cheating.

no it wasnt.....as clear a dive as you will see....I am sure some footage from behind the goal will prove this conclusively....completely positive.

Daft challenge. But as soon as he came near, Alli threw himself down.
But yes, we'd have wanted it, had it been up the other end.

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
You've got a point but, being level-headed about it, Alli dived before Long got anywhere near him. I may have been claiming a penalty had it been at the other end, but very much tongue in cheek as it wasn't dangerous and it was a laughable dive. I said so immediately, and having seen a number of replays, still think it is not a penalty.conyoviejo wrote:Phook me you lot..It was a definite penalty,if it was the other way round you would have been screaming blue murder if it wasn't given.. They get given, but the number of times the big clubs get them given at our expense and not in our favour is what really gets my goat. It's life. it's football.
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
For what its worth; my son tells me that the guys on Sky Sport said Alli was going down before contact was made. Ergo a dive.

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
he went down faster than monica lewinsky.
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
Definitely a dive, he saw leg outstretched and jumped into it. Alli made contact with Long deliberately. The same as Lanzini's. That's three bad penalties gone against us recently. We got away with one against Liverpool but we were denied one against West Ham that was much more of a pen than any of these last three.
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
Alli n Kane should of both not played today, but again a ref Mr Lawson last week @ city bottled it n only gave the England pin up boys only yellows..
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
Need to see it back so could have been wrong at the time when I thought it was a clear penalty.
Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
If Burnley fans think it was a pen, how do you expect a neutral independent panel of 3 to see it...

Re: Never a penalty...he threw himself down
Clear dive. Long prods for the ball, makes contact with nothing. Alli goes down of his own will, making contact with Longs leg halfway down. Cheated again.

unfortunately it was a penalty, contact was made and ref was correct.

Some Burnley fans along with Oliver havent had the benefit of a replay yet, which of course the panel will have.Rick_Muller wrote:You’d expect a neutral independent panel to know about the rules of the game, unlike some Burnley fans

people posting on this thread that it was a clear pen must have been on their works do today.....have some black coffee and wait until the blurred vision has gone before re watching the dive.

The panel are crap. If any contact is made it's no dive. How a defender cannot make any contact whilst trying to win the ball makes the rule laughable.
If you can't make contact at all, you'd have to not be within a yard at any time.
