Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
There don't seem too many targets that would fit our framework , as I would assume we would only sign an out and out winger as an impact sub , unless the were up to the defensive work?
Pritchard would be a good fit, been dormant a bit recently at underachieving Norwich but was their star man yesterday with a great goal and assist.
I see Alan Judge was on the bench for Brentford but imagine some way off being the player he was.
I assume Snodgrass's wages now too high and settled on loan at Villa.
Any other possible targets spring to mind?

Watched Albrighton play yesterday and thought he was terrific - would fit our playstyle. Doubt he'd be for sale though?

I can only think of George Boyd, Junior Stanislas and Keith Treacy.

I think Albrighton would be a perfect fit for us. But I also don’t think he’d come to us unless he suddenly found himself out of favour at Leicester

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
An article the other day suggested Nicolas De Preville (linked in summer) James McLean and a lad at Kilmarnock were our top targets.
A really ambitious target would be Nathan Redmond, who isn't popular at Southampton. Almost certainly out of our range but them i thought that of Jack Cork in the summer.
Having rekindled his career in Scotland, Scott Sinclair might be a shout too although I don't know if he buys into the mentality Dyche demands. His wing partner Forrest seems to be highly rated although he's never given the impression of wanting to leave Celtic and having spent his entire career in a team which dominates, I wonder how he's adapt to the defensive demands we place on wingers.

Bit of a long shot but.... Scotty Sinclair? I know he's a key player up in the noddy league but his only realistic way of gatecrashing the England squad would be to blitz the PL for half a season.

That lad at Kilmarnock is Jones, young NI international who had a great game recently v Rangers.
Not sure he's ready to play straight away at this level though.

Nathan Redmond. Could play left midfield or behind striker. The Southampton setup seems a bit chaotic and he might be interested in playing for a better managed club.

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
Nothing wrong with signing someone to go straight into the team and someone for the future who might be an impact option off the bench for now. We were after a winger in the summer even without Brady being injured and the likes of Ginnelly seem to be some distance short of being involved, so there's a vacancy to add depth as well as go straight into the team.Lancasterclaret wrote:That lad at Kilmarnock is Jones, young NI international who had a great game recently v Rangers.

Redmond is a very good suggestion. The wages? Who knows!!??? Why would he want to come to a club though only 7th in the Premier League????

Adebyo Akinfenwa is a pretty wide man and would make an easy target.
Actually he's not that pretty though.

Jarrod Bowen from Hull, young lad with bags of talent and has scored a lot this season.

Ollie Burke from West Brom, cracking young player he looks destined to be a star.

I'd like to see James Ward Prouse come to us from Saints where he's never nailed on a starting role despite being a great crosser of the ball and excellent set piece taker, still plenty of years in him at 23.
Better chance of more England call ups with us too.

Is there anything good at Leeds for us?
Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
Redmond would be a quality addition and offer us a different option. Doubt we could tempt him here but I'd love to see it.

There has to be some players out there desperate to get some game time ahead of the World Cup, an opportunity to get noticed at a top 10 Prem side must be an attraction

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
Pione Sisto is a player that would be inexpensive in our current situation and would be hugely different to all our other wide players.
Failing that, suggestions such as Matt Ritchie and Alex Pritchard (both very similar players) would be great shouts, and I do not think us pinching gems away from Newcastle is too far fetched these days.
We will never, ever be as attractive a proposition as we will be this January possibly ever again as a football club. It is imperative we make two or three high quality signings because the opportunity our position allows us is one that makes us possibly be able to attract the like we have never had the chance for.

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
It largely comes down to whether behind the scenes we “persuade” the player to come regardless of his club’s wishes.
I agree that we are in a unique position to attract players in our history (league position, stability and the ability to set a player up for life).
I would target players of the ability of Andone, Walcott, Ings and Redmond. In other words, largely, full internationals. I haven’t deliberately picked players who can play both wide and up front but that would be handy.

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
Off topic, I know. But many years ago I was watching a game from the seats near the pitch in the Bob Lord stand, and some guy near me shouted aggressively to Winston, who was playing at the time and was closeby on our side of the pitch, that he should stop ducking tackles and get stuck in. (This is the polite version.)occ-claret wrote:My favourite all time winger, Winston White. He would beat a man then go back to beat him again
Winston heard this, just looked at the guy who had shouted, and Winnie mouthed very obviously (with no sound): 'Bo***cks!" Everyone near me was in stitches.

Lazar Markovic
Liverpool want to sell in January but want to recoup £16m of the £20m they paid for him 3 years ago.
Still only 23 and inflation in those 3 years has been massive.
Looked good at Hull.
Cheeky bid with add ons in accordance with performance?

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
I would be amazed if we sign any British based players in January, even mediocre players will start at 20 million. European market will be much better value in terms of transfer fee and wages to be paid. I would bet that a huge amount of teams in the Championship pay higher wages than the majority of clubs in League One, Seria A or La Liga - only the big clubs pay stupid money in these leagues

Re: Possible targets for the additional wide man we need?
A link from the BBC to the France Football site says that Palace & Everton are interested in this guy, but 'surtout' I.e. above all Burnley. The lad is a 25 year old Cameroon International who has knocked in 9 goals so far this season for Angers who are struggling at the bottom of Ligue 1.
However he knocked back an offer from Brighton this summer who offered to quadruple his wages. Contracted to 2020 he will cost a few centimes. However with Defour French speaker already in the squad we might stand a chance.
