Gayle dives

Post by PaintYorkClaretnBlue » Wed Dec 27, 2017 9:21 pm

The ref doesn’t fall for it and books him. No further punishment, just a booking. The punishment should be the same as if he had got away with it, a two game ban. As long as the ref isn’t conned it’s ok! Stupid rule!

This is one of a few current rules that baffles me.

Reverse the situation.

You can be 100% certain that had Raheem Sterling dived it would have been a penalty.

I'm confused.

I thought you couldn't take retrospective action if he wasn't booked, e.g. the Brighton player :?

Sterling doesn't dive he goes light on feet when he's in the box , it's to avoid those cruel defenders injuring him as he's such a delicate individual.

You can only take retrospective action if the referee has been deceived. He wasn't at Brighton, although he didn't card him, and Marriner wasn't tonight and did card him.

Absolutely not - had he dived then he would have been carded provided it was seen by the referee.

Exactly. I thought this was an identical situation to Alli's dive - a slight contact entitling the player to dive and making it a penalty. That's what the pundits said about Alli, but not for Gayle.

In my view neither are penalties in a true footballing sense, but it seems true football is not what it is about these days.

Sadly even though it was an obvious dive I shouted for a pen just in the hope that it would make the game interesting.

Carbon copy of the Alli one. There is minimal contact on the thigh and the attacker goes down. Only perceivable difference being this one was against a big club and the other was in favour of the big club. Pundits almost exclusively agree Alli was a pen and this one isn't a pen. They need to take a long hard look at this.

But no one will take a long hard look at it.

At the end of the day Gayle took a decent touch with his right foot to take him inside the defender and open up a shot on goal. What on earth made him then think "I should now fall onto the defender and try to win a penalty rather than score a goal", despite the fact scoring goals is actually what he is paid to do?

They must be coached to act so inherently stupidly.

As the so called pundits or 'football experts' such as the mighty Garth Crooks keep telling us, if you play for one of the 'big six' and there is any contact at all, you have a 'right to go down'. It's in the rules apparently. At least it seems like it is.

The only thing that needs a long hard look is this notion that has become prevalent on here that these decisions are because there is a conscious big club bias and not just general incompetence of the officials.

Sadly, they make their own rules up. I think there has been major doubt in all the four penalties we've conceded this season.

Man City - clear dive from Mendy for me, and he touched Pope, not the other way round, and was already going down
Arsenal - Ramsey threw himself but unfortunately Tarkowski had put his hands on him so that was always going to be a pen
Brighton - words fail me, absolutely no offence at all
Spurs - Alli already going down but once there is contact he gets the penalty and they won't take action

I think it's more an unconscious bias, brought about by the increased sway the big clubs managers have due the larger media presence and profile.

Haven't there been other incidents when we should have conceded a penalty but didn't?

Was it not Bernardo who dived to 'win' the penalty for City?

Pope slid into Bernardo Silva.

The claret tinted glasses are well and truly on if you think that it was the other way round

Silva's foot is planted on the floor.

Pope slides into him.

That is irrefutable fact.
