What is decent and won't break the bank of a poor Eastern European based claret?

Re: OT: Things to do in Liverpool
lol i would have cancelled these tbh for reasons i wont go into here, but they were that cheap the change fee is more than the cost of the flights so thought i might as well use em. Just my luck its FA Cup weekend and we drew city this round.... who knows though eh?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Get a cheap flight to prague.

This pub is worth a visit:

I was in Liverpool for a night last year and also did the tourist thing and went into the Cavern Club (yes..I know it's not the original site) and I enjoyed it. Live music, plenty of people and general dinginess..what's not to like ?

I've had my share of work trips to Liverpool. Cavern Club on a Thursday a really good Beatles tribute have the regular slot (about 9.15-12.00). Until fairly recently was just a pound in, £4 last time I went in September. They serve Modelo too.

The Christmas fair is still on on the Pier Head, but the forecast is pretty rotten so you’ll probably get blown away. Avoid the ferry for similar reasons.
Loads of museums/galleries on the Albert dock if you’re into that sort of thing. Alternatively there are loads of good pubs caretering for all tastes if you just want to get on it.

Re: OT: Things to do in Liverpool
It is actually occupying half of the original Cavern site. If you sit in bottom stage area and look to far left corner there is an emergency exit. This exit was where the original stairs were to enter the Cavern from the street.Stalbansclaret wrote:This pub is worth a visit:

Liverpool is an excellent place to visit now with free museums, good traditional pubs and restaurants.

Re: OT: Things to do in Liverpool
Pubs:
Peter Kavanagh's - Egerton Street. Old boozer with original interior, a couple of resident clarets frequent it.
The Philarmonic - Hope Street/Hardman Street corner. The red marble toilets have listed status. Rest of the pub is an edwardian club vibe.
Roscoe Head - Roscoe Street. Tiny pub with lots of little rooms. Interesting atmosphere.
Food:
Salthouse Tapas - Seriously, go here. A bit pricey bit the best tapas I've had anywhere.
Other:
Williamson Tunnels - So Williamson built a load of tunnels under the city. They are slowly opening them up and finding all sorts of weird and wonderful objects.
Water Street - Just walk up this city centre street and pay close attention to the carvings and facades of the buildings. Stunning and poignant.
Ferry across the Mersey - Trite but sort of have to do it, also gives the best view of the waterfront. Take earplugs (only joking).
