James McLean
Hear we are in talks with WBA about signing him.
Think he would be a sensible signing. Knows a lot of the squad. Has experience of this level. Hard worker with some moments if brilliance. Reminds me of an upgrade on Arfield or Boyd. Would be a good signing while Brady recovers.
Would love us to go in for Shaqiiri. Especially with Stoke in peril but cant see that. Very talented player but perhaps too big a risk at this stage given his wages and lack of knowledge on his character.

Always liked him. Controversial or not, he is a human being and he has a choice. I love his style of play and I honestly can't think of a better fit for a Dyche player at our sort of price level right now. Would be a terrific signing and Burnley fans would love him.

Don't rate McClean at all. I don't care about his personal views I just think he isn't very good.

Re: James McLean
If SD can do to him what he did to get Joey Barton making a major contribution to our team then he will be terrific. Just what we need and I suspect he is not expecting to play every minute of every game. Feel certain the other Irish players have tapped him up and told SD he would be a great fit.

Re: James McLean
And there was me thinking people fought to give us the freedom to be able to make our own decisions, one of which is to choose whether or not to wear a poppy. I find it sad that anyone still won't approve of a player who exercises his right to make such a decision.HatfieldClaret wrote:Wont be happy to see a burnley shirt in November without the poppy.

Re: James McLean
The new George Boyd - a work horse but a bit inconsistant. A decent signing for this season, if we do manage to finish in the top half I'd be hoping the club could move upwards in terms of targets in the summer though.

Re: James McLean
A good signing I thought we tracked him previously when he played in Ireland .Personally I think he has the right to not wear a poppy .He would be a dedinate fit as a wide left player and has a decent goal and assist record.
Also we've players who know him well so he would settle quickly.Whilst we are in talks at WBA we should enquire about Jay at the same time.

The poppy issue for me is that they have it on shirts in the first place. Football and politics and religion and war shouldnt mix.
Thats from someone who has plenty of family and friends who have served.

Re: James McLean
If SD wants him that's enough for me.
Trying to get a feel for him but three seasons at WBA and not a lot of footage. Brady got a 'goals and skills' compilation video just for last season at Norwich.
WBA seems happy to see him go looking at their forum. A little underwhelmed tbh.

Not sure If I'd rather harvest the best from below eg: Brady, Wood etc. But I suppose you can point to Cork as a counter.

If Sean wants him and he doe's the job & fits in to the squad then I don't have a problem with him
Re: James McLean
I agree. Now is the time to be looking at better quality players. To all intents and purposes we are in the premier league for another season, we need to get players in now to strengthen the squad, get them match/Dyche fit and then crack on next season. We may even be in Europe but not necessarily the EU.Quickenthetempo wrote:I was hoping we would set our targets a little higher.

But the "better quality players" surely make themselves more available in summer, not January.Corky wrote: Now is the time to be looking at better quality players.
We can always identify targets, of course, but more and possibly better players will be available
at season's end.
McClean would be ok for now.

Not for me, thought the bar would have been set higher. If he's so good, why would WBA want to sell to a potential rival?

Re: James McLean
WBA have been awful this season, clearly not an organised well drilled team, hence players lose purpose in their roles and become disillusioned and unable to perform.
Give Mclean the purpose and he'd fight for it, another battler in the team is what we need, another player to have that us against them approach!

Re: James McLean
If Dyche thinks he can give us an instant impact then im happy enough with that- I can't think of too many realistic targets who I'd expect to really hit the ground running, which is what we need in Brady's absence (Lennon is another who might, not sure any of our other reported targets offer any guarantees in that respect.
I think we'd all want someone a bit more subtle who can take us to the next level over the next 12 months too, though.
I'm not in the least bit interested in his political views personally provided doesn't bring Burnley into disrepute if he comes onto our pay roll for as long as he's on our pay roll.

They're involved heavily in the scrap at the bottom.
Whilst we won't be.
So that's not really a factor.
If the boss wants him, it's ok with me.

Yes please.
Re: James McLean
Like I said when poppy gate happened.
Would have him here in a heart beat as a player. Upgrade on Scotty Arf, Dyche type of player, works hard, and the sort of player you want for you not against.
The fact we enquired about him previously makes this link/rumour interesting.

Re: James McLean
Not convinced about him as a player for us. Interesting to read why he doesn't wear the poppy. Does he stand still for the minutes silence on Rememberance Day ? I still think the poppy is ultimately about WW1 and 2 which he doesn't have an issue with. I can understand Irish bitterness towards the British army but many Irish died fighting in WW2 and Hitler's thoughts on the Irish and ultimate outlook for them was bleak.
If WBA do not want to keep him and they are pretty awful not sure this is where we should be looking.
