Jonny Evans £25m

Post by Firthy » Mon Jan 08, 2018 12:19 pm

There's talk about Jonny Evans going to Arsenal or City for £25m+ which is a lot for a 30 year old defender.

If he's worth that, how much are Tarks and Mee worth, both younger and both better players.

I think you're underestimating Evans if you believe Mee and Tark are better IMO.

Evans has experience our lads don't have, namely title winning and European games.

Evans has generally been a solid defender throughout his career, so to say our lads are better is a bit of a stretch.

75m for our pair but would be the death of our season.

With the top players going for 142 million them days ...25 million is just peanuts, suppose it's just inflation really, obscene money all round though, anyone think we will break our transfer record this window?

We have broken our transfer record every single window since we got promoted so i would imagine that there is a good chance this will happen in January, particularly seeing as Dyche has gone on record saying how stretched our squad is currently.

The more relevant figure to compare with the Burnley centre halves, particularly Tarks, is the £50m that was being bandied about for Maguire today.

Totally overpriced for a slow error prone 30yr old but then his ex Man U and that seems to put £25 m on the price

Some people really need to take their claret tinted specs off! Evans is a far better player than either of our centre backs.

Take Ben Mee out of our framework and he would get horribly exposed. Tarkowski has the potential to be better but a few good games for us doesn't make him Franco Baresi, which seems to be the general consensus on here.

I do think the way we defend makes Tarkowski and Mee look better than they actually are.

Scargill worth a cheeky bid?

He's got similar demands to poor Patrick Bamford though, you have to pay for his security installations for life.

You only need to look at Keane to prove this point! I agree entirely. Tarky and Mee are fantastic for us, absolutely brilliant... but whether they'd be as good playing in a more expansive team I don't know. I suspect Tarky has the greater potential but whether he has what it takes to play for Arsenal or Man City is debatable.

If we were talking about an ex Bayern defender, German international, who'd won 3 Bundesliga titles, the Club World Cup and 7 other domestic trophies, people wouldn't think anything of a £25m fee.

Instead it's Jonny Evans, the former Man Utd defender with 3 Premier League titles, the Club World Cup, 4 Charity Shields, 2 League Cups and a Championship title under his belt.

So a 3 times PL title winner with european experience, international experience and being chased by both Arsenal and City, but he wouldn't get in our team?

Erm... ok then.

Rob Holding plays for Arsenal, so obviously Tarkowski can.

Wolves are rumoured to be after Andre Silva for £34m.

Jonny Evans experienced Prem League defender £25m probably about right, who knows anymore, transfer market is bonkers.

He doesn't neccessarily need to improve as a player, he's more than good enough to step straight into ours.

There would be a big difference in expectation between a £2.5m signing (Holding) and a £30m signing (what people seem to want for Tarky).
