According to L'Equipe he is. Would certainly solve the winger issue despite not watching him play much.

I would be well pleased with this.
Only 22 and he's absolutely rapid.

Ian Moore was rapid. Let’s face it no one knows if he’s any good. He could just be back up

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
Wonder how reliable 'Cartilage Free Captain' is? Although it's being reported in several places now.
It would make sense all round though - loan move to see us through to the end of the season.
Spurs are bound to want some kind of assurance that he's going to get regular game time and as they've always had a reputation for charging substantial loan fees so assume we would be bringing him in with a view to being a direct Brady replacement.
If there ever was any truth in the McClean rumour this would put an end to it.

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
On paper, a signing that makes decent sense and adds to the squad (presuming its true - all the stories derive from L'Equippe, which is pretty reliable, and it also fits with various suggestions that we'd identified a left wing target who would be a loan).
Having spoken to a couple of friends about him, it appears he's a speedy, dynamic left winger who carries the ball well, chips in with a few goals and has a decent cross on him. We know the squad lacks pace and dynamism, and even if he's a bench option initially, he'll give us real speed on transition. His record as a kid in France is good, and it makes sense for us to target players of that ilk who haven't quite made it at the bigger clubs in this country. Having come from Spurs, he'll have been drilled by Pochettino in relatively similar requirements to those Dyche imposes (the systems are similar, and reportedly the coaching styles are too), and by all accounts he's a very popular member of the Spurs squad who has shown a really good attitude whilst not in the side. Pochettino also isn't the type to sign show-ponies who don't have the willingness to work hard.
He probably won't set the world alight straight away, but on paper it sounds like a decent option. You'd like to think that if it goes well (but not well enough that Spurs decide they want him back), we might be in the market for him more permanently (and the reports Levy refused to include an option to buy suggest this was our first preference).

The source is indeed L'Equipe. By and large, it's a reliable paper/website.

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... fer-targetN'Koudou fits the profile of Tottenham's young, hungry squad, and the Bielsa link is also interesting. The former Marseille boss is one of Pochettino's biggest coaching influences, and while he only spent a couple of months working with N'Koudou, the decision to sign him shows he thought the youngster was a good fit for the high-intensity playing style both he and Pochettino subscribe to.
Tottenham's attacking players are expected to work tirelessly and press high up the pitch when the opposition have possession, and N'Koudou showed his appreciation for that side of the game in an interview with French newspaper La Provence last July.
"Before attacking, you have to know how to defend well," he said. "That is what is asked of us in training: press, press and press, and when you are in the danger zone, that's when everyone attacks. It's a style of play that suits me."

From Sky Sports transfer centre:
BREAKING NEWS
Tottenham winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is set to join Burnley on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky sources.
The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact at Spurs since joining in 2016 and is need of regular games.
N’Koudou has made 23 appearances - but never started a game in the Premier League.
He signed from Marseille for a fee of around £11m in a deal that also saw Clinton NJie move to the French club on loan.

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
I see the article suggests our main domestic competition was/is West Brom. Who of course have a left winger of a not completely dissimilar ilk called James McLean. Not too big a leap to wonder if, should West Brom get Nkoudou, McLean might have been free to join us. But that would in turn suggest we'd rather take Nkoudou than McLean.

McClean would be the "Arfield /Boyd upgrade", whilst this guy would - presumably - be the temporary cover for Brady.
(We were looking for another wide man prior to Brady's injury weren't we, so 2 are now needed.)

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
I am lucky, never heard of the guy just read a few articles on line and seems as though a done deal today, but Spurs put a block on a buy at the end of the season so a loan only move, probably just in case it turns out to be alreight.

I wonder if because there is no option to buy at the end of the season that the club will look for other targets?

Kevin O'Doo ? Clearly Irish...sign him on
Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
I agree - I can't really see what's in it for us if it's just a 6 month loan with no option to buy. It's not like we desperately need results to avoid relegation. Also it will probably take at least 6 months before we start to see the best of him, as was the case with Robbie Brady.Lancasterclaret wrote:I wonder if because there is no option to buy at the end of the season that the club will look for other targets?

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
Sorry but if I was given a choice between Scotty and McClean I know who I'd prefer. I've said before and I'll say again, I can't see anything in McClean different or better than we already have. At least this Spurs lad, if he comes would offer an alternative option to what we presently have.nil_desperandum wrote:Why?

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
I wouldn’t take any notice of Levy stating what he did, he plays hardball on transfers and is just being clear about things. In other words, if he comes on loan and succeeds then if we want him we pay top dollar, not agreeing to something up front and tying his hands up on the deal isn’t something Levy does.

Given how long it takes your average signing to break into our first team, our recent poor record with loan signings and the fact that this chap doesn’t sound particularly compatible with “the framework”, it’d be a surprise if this were true.

The fact we'd have a pacy winger would push a defensive line back 10-15 yards, as they wouldn't want to be caught out.Reecey1987 wrote:No point having a pacey winger if the strikers cant keep up with him we need more pace up top
That allows our central striker to also push 10-15 yards forward.

Re: Nkoudou coming to the Turf
Makes sense for all parties.
We have a £13M wide man out for the season but that doesn't mean we can just go out and buy another one at a similar price range. We know that this transfer window leads to inflated prices and its great that we enter it in a position of relative comfort.
A loan in this case buys us time while we're depleted, being in such a strong league position helps, it means we can effectively road test a different type of player.
Pace has long been the missing commodity of our team and even if Nkoudou isn't necessarily a definite starter every week, he would offer a genuine option of something different from the bench.
A strong bond between Dyche and as many top managers as possible can also be a good thing for us in terms of further squad development.
