Yes ! its coming back to me now. How he managed to pass himself off as a footballer i will never know. When he came on for his debut,we were in awe of having bought a world beater. Me and my brother were in the longside and never laughed so much in our lives. Comedy gold at its best, albeit for the wrong reasons.Dazzler wrote:50k it was.
Got the money back when some other mugs bought him off us for 50k.

I don't know if he has been mentioned and I know his son posts on here, so I will add David Holt to the list.

Re: Forgotten Burnley Players
Young Irish lad played in that same team as David Holt called Colin Anderson. Looked a promising player. Think he might have gone to Torquay under the 'guidance' of Bruce Rioch who I believe thumped Anderson in training.
Just remembered another young player from that team in 82 called Paul Dixon, Irish again but who sadly just seemed to disappear off the scene. Did he return home due to homesickness?

My Dad was so proud to play for his hometown club, even if only for the last couple of years as a player. Some team that won the third Division title and I’ll always treasure his medal.

It was a cracking team and I remember your Dad playing his part. You are rightly proud of his medal.

Phil Cavener. Did he once take a corner with a replacement ball only to forget to take it out of the plastic wrapper first?!

Re: Forgotten Burnley Players
Rune Vindheim....bestrode the Maine Road midfield lime a colossus !
Billy Rodaway... king of catching the ball on the back of his neck in the warm up. Once the whistle blew no such ball skills on show but a solid defender
David Loggie..perennial fringe striker
Fernando Guerrero ...remember Coyle bringing him for the last 10 minutes in the opening PL game at Stoke and he scared them to death.

Re: Forgotten Burnley Players
A shout for the 13 players released at the end of 2002-03 season - in part as a result of ITV Digital going bust:
Burnley Express report: http://www.burnleyexpress.net/sport/foo ... -1-1688128" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
TERNENT AXES 13 FROM TURF SQUAD
I'm sure most of the experienced pros will either be remembered or are already mentioned above.
Five young footballers, all I think in their first pro season, were among the 13: Anthony Shandran, Earl Davis, Andrew Waine, Andrew Leeson and Mark Rasmussen.
The last game of the season 2002-03 was played at Selhurst Park - against the then Wimbledon, shortly before their move to Milton Keynes and, later renaming as MK Dons.

I will never forget Ray Deakin. He epitomised everything about Burnley FC at the time and was instrumental in us starting to climb back up the leagues. Rest in Peace Ray.Claretitus wrote:Ray "WHOOOOOOSHY" Deakin. Legend.

In this day and age, he would probably attract the attention of Jose Mourinho, with his ability to park the bus....Jamesy wrote:I will never forget Ray Deakin. He epitomised everything about Burnley FC at the time and was instrumental in us starting to climb back up the leagues. Rest in Peace Ray.
