Former Players

Post by claret10 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:28 pm

Who with the beauty of hindsight would have been better off staying put with us?.....regardless of whether it looked a good career move at the time.

Was having a discussion at work with Chris Eagles and Chris Mccann both being players we would have been keen to keep at the time.

We were of the thinking that in recent time only Charlie Austin and Jay Rod have gone on to "more success" in the long run......

In recent years I’d suggest Shackell

I'd say Trippier has also gone on to better things.

But far more have had careers that went sidewards if not backwards having left us.

Certainly Barton to Rangers should have never happened.

Boyd and Shackell are two that spring to mind in recent years.

Boyd set for return for Sheff Wed tomorrow in derby - been out injured since September. He's a hell of a lot to do not to make this list though.

Always remember being really annoyed when we sold Kurt Nogan and would argue he had similar success with PNE than we were having at the time.

Any of our more *cough* senior posters have any that stand out from before i started watching in the 90s?

Martin Paterson - although he just went on to prove he was actually as bad as I thought he was.

A cracking bit of brass for him though.

He did bugger all after us.

With some of the names being quoted you could say that anyone who chose to leave us with the exception of KT a lot of the names given did further themselves by leaving.... and would never have got near THIS team anyway.

The fact is up to say 5 years ago anyone leaving where probably getting much better deals or moving up the divisions.... and quite often both.
