James Brown at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1972.
The atmosphere was electric and the great showman even got mkmel up dancing in the aisles.
And I cannot dance at all and have no rythm

Best Morrisey at the GMex around 2011 ish
Saw Keane at the Apollo and they had no support act so a certain Peter Kay jumped out of the audience and
did a 45 minute stand up both were excellent

I'd heard their demo through a mate, but it was Foundations of Burden which really did it for me. I saw them with Yob at first and for me they were better than Yob, and then saw them on a huge stage at Temples. Just glorious each time.Spiral wrote:Not seen them live so I suppose it's a bit dumb posting on this thread, like, but on a more general point I don't get the hype around Pallbearer. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad, but every time I've tried getting into them (headphones blasting, eyes closed, no distractions etc) I've consistently found myself asking "yeah, nice, but why don't I just put on an Elder record?"

Like you I was dragged kicking and screaming to a gig in 1997 to see the Prodigy at Plymouth pavilions...I didn't want to stand up in the throng so insisted we sat down further backdougcollins wrote:I was dragged kicking and screaming to a Lynyrd Skynyrd gig in 1974.
Best thing I ever did.
Stood up the entire gig and loved every minute from the 1st beat of smack my bitch up( which was no 1 in the charts and banned everywhere at the time)

I'll have another as everybody else is listing plenty.
Muse ..Drones tour last year. those three fellas can fill a room with sound and good peripherals as well. a proper show.
I'm with one of the earlier posters and never saw The Alarm at their peak. A regret.

The Allman Brothers Band - Knebworth
It bites - a band admired by musicians across the globe
And I very recently saw Alice Cooper in Manchester, What a fantastic show
I can also recommend a new band called 'Johnny Bullitt & the Promise'

I saw Muse last year as well - bought the tickets because my daughter really wanted to see them and I expected it to be OK!piston broke wrote:I'll have another as everybody else is listing plenty.

We Are Scientists at Carling Academy in Bristol. My first gig, but was such a small intimate one with the band chatting with the crowd between songs.

11th MAY 1963 - Imperial Ballroom, Nelson (The Imp) the Beatles, can still feel being crushed to hell and the music reverberating through my all body!
What a night!

Re: Best music gig you ever saw?
I can tell you the worst: David Coverdale at Preston Guild Hall. The mixing and sound quality was so bad I left. Actual worst music was Hawkwind at King George's Hall. They were so bad I didn't even stay for the 'Silver Machine' encore.

Re: Best music gig you ever saw?
Way too many to choose from really and pretty much every gig is a great experience cause we've seen some cracking bands. U2 in Dublin this summer was pretty special - hometown, Joshua Tree anniversary, Croke Park - great atmosphere.
INXS in '94 at the Town and Country in Leeds was an amazing night. And Wolf People at Brudenell Social Club in 2012 was simply awesome (had been waiting almost 18 months for them to travel north).

As a 17 year old in 1972 saw ELP at the Free Trade Hall then Yes and Focus at the Hardrock in Stretford. They all made a huge impression on me. Genesis at Roundhay Park Billy Joel at the MEN and Steve Hackett in Liverpool last year all stand out.

My sister is a huge fan of Adam and I must admit, he does have a great voice and can entertain a crowd. I believe Queen and Adam did a New Year`s Eve concert a few years ago which I watched on t`internet. It was fantastic!SmudgetheClaret wrote:Surprisingly it was Queen with new front man Adam Lambert at Nottingham followed closely by the Police at King George's hall in the 80's....

Re: Best music gig you ever saw?
Stereophonics at ULU student union in London last year - just a coupe of hundred of us there for the 20th anniversary of Word Gets Around being released - and then probably REM at the Hammersmith Apollo a good few years ago!

Being such an intimate venue I got to meet the band and they were so nice that I'm going back next month
By a spooky coincidence, Screaming Females are playing a few dates in the UK in May.
Can't miss this as they may not grace our shores again

Re: Best music gig you ever saw?
Good thread this. Like a lot of people I find it hard to pick a favourite but here's a selection of some great gigs I've been to (some bands like the Icicle Works and Elvis Costello I've seen many times but I've only included them once in the list)
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Leicester De-Montfort Hall - 1978 (first ever gig)
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Stafford Bingley Hall - 1981
The Smiths - St. Austell Cornwall Coliseum - 1986
The Icicle Works - Birmingham Powerhouse - 1988
The Waterboys - Birmingham Hummingbird - 1989
The Pixies - Birmingham Goldwyns - 1989
The Sundays - Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall - 1992
James - Manchester Apollo - 1997
Neil Young - Manchester Apollo - 2008
George Thorogood & The Destroyers - Manchester Apollo - 2011
Hard to pick a winner but if I had to it'd probably be The Smiths.
