Aaron Lennon
Aaron Lennon
Thread started to avoid a signing being announced on a thread entitled "no thanks".
Suppose I should chuck in a morsel of tittle tattle and an opinion. A guy I work with used to know Lennon's Dad - said he was a lovely guy and as proud as the proudest man in Proudsville. I would be very happy with this as a signing. Better quality players are part of the evolution of style.

Not claiming to be ITK but it is possible and it's not the kind of welcome I would want to extend to a new Claret.

So is it a signing or not then? You said you didn't want to announce a signing on a thread called no thanks. Are you announcing a signing or not?
Re: Aaron Lennon
If we do sign him then CT would start a new thread so ain't got a clue why you felt the need to start this one.

F@ck me - the amount of sh1te posted on the other Aaron Lennon thread alone and you're throwing a wobbly about me wanting to start afresh.TVC15 wrote:If we do sign him then CT would start a new thread so ain't got a clue why you felt the need to start this one.
Get off my thread before you stink it out.

Re: Aaron Lennon
Well I for one would welcome him. Apologies for repeating but I think the Managers charisma together with our close knit squad would be the perfect fit for him. Fingers crossed.

It's as simple as this for me; if the Manager wants him, then so do I.

There are those with champagne taste who expect big name signings now and a top 7 finish. Then there are others who think we are in crisis after 0 win in 7.
I don't fall into either, I'm just worried where these 2 wins are going to come from. We don't want to be needing something against AFC Bournemouth on the last day.

Re: Aaron Lennon
This is exactly what I’ve been saying. It’s about evolution, from relegation fodder, to likely lower mid-table, to solid mid table. You need to bring in quality PL players, of which category Lennon falls into. The trouble is we can’t afford them at their prime (I’d suggest 3-4 years ago with Lennon) so have to pick them up when they past their best for the top 6.
Eventually we may get to a Stoke or West Brom level (yes, they’re having poor seasons by their standards) where we can attract an Arnoutovic, or Shaqiri (spelling of both suspect), and expect to beat the bottom teams most weeks.
Will it happen? Who knows. I think it’s a positive move by the club if it does, and shows we have a longer term plan than this season.

I believed we were very close to signing him in the summer. I wouldn't have updated it had I not thought there was an interest in him again this window but I don't know whether it is going to happen.Firthy wrote:So the article is ready for when his transfer is announced or it's been altered just in case we do sign him?

Re: Aaron Lennon
From SDs first day our widemen have been second FBs as well, with outstanding workrate.
I don't see NKoudou or Lennon as that type of player. If we do go that way it is a massive show of confidence from SD in our FBs. He must believe they can do the job with only half the support they've had previously.

We've got that third midfielder to anchor play. The number of times per game you see Defour in the left back spot is astounding, covering that zone as Ward/Taylor makes an overlap for the inverted winger.

Who'll do the covering when Defour is playing the number 10 role?!!UpTheBeehole wrote:We played 442 then, and we now play 451

Re: Aaron Lennon
My dad who is an Everton ST holder wants shut of Lennon as he runs back too much to keep Fat Sam happy. He wants an attacking winger like everyone thinks we would get by signing him.piston broke wrote:From SDs first day our widemen have been second FBs as well, with outstanding workrate.

Most people would regard him as an attacking winger but they play to their managers instructions.

This is what an everton fan thinks of him. Sounds like a Burnley player to me:
"@WD1878 @mattspicer66 Provided he does the business for Everton...
Was non plussed about Aaron Lennon at first. He always gives 100% and won me round. I like Lennon.
It's how players combine with team mates. In Lennon case its with Jonjo."

Deal agreed for Lennon
A deal and personal terms have been agreed for Aaron Lennon, just needs to pass a medical. Great signing with pace in my opinion.

Re: Aaron Lennon
BBC and others saying done.
I think its an excellent signing that fills an obvious vacancy in our squad, someone from whom Nkoudou - should we make it a permanent signing - can learn heaps, and who will also add real extra quality in wide areas.

£55k a week would say he's probably not going to be, so you've fallen at the first hurdle already.
We don't even know if he's available either...
As for finding 10 better within our budget, you know that probably won't happen because better players would be outside our budgets, which is why we'd be better off finding someone else.
So, he is in our budget/wage range. Fallen at the first hurdle Sidney
He was available.
Dyche thinks he's alright. Do for me.

Tremendous signing IMO. He's a level above anyone else we have with regards to experience at this level.
For anyone who isn't happy I ask you to consider how far we've come in recent years and offer up two words to help with your thought process... Dane Richards!

An interesting potential change in direction?
Two wingers in.
We do need to create more chances and wingers of the calibre we've brought in
should help achieve that.

Re: Aaron Lennon
We've been really keen to get a winger in for some time. There was Kamil Grosicki last year, Lennon last August. NKoudou is filling the hole left by Brady's injury but this is the extra wide player Dyche has clearly been after for a good while.jurek wrote:An interesting potential change in direction?
