25 man squad question

Can anyone help me out with the answer to why it appears we currently have a 26-Man squad which should exceed the limit and break the rules?

I can only think that when the window opened on January 1st we were permitted to ‘sign off’ a player or two (e.g. Brady) in order to bring in Nkoudou.

Furthermore it appears someone else will have to be removed (or loaned out) in order to bring in Lennon and, indeed, anyone else.

We currently have 26 players that have featured in squads this seasons and therefore must have appeared on our 25 man squad list. None of these 26 are exempt from the list due to age (born post-1st January 96).

My only other ‘theory’ is whether GKs have specific rules which allows some changes due to it being a specialist position meaning Tom is not currently listed in the 25.

GK - Heaton, Pope, Lindegaard, Legzdins
D - Mee, Tarkowski, Lowton, Ward, Taylor, Barnsley, Long
M - Cork, Defour, Hendrick, JBG, Arfield, Brady, Nkoudou, Marney, Westwood, Ulvestad
F - Wood, Barnes, Vokes, Walters, Wells

Any ideas?

You name a squad after summer window closes to run until the next window. We will be required to submit another squad on 1st Feb. That basically means you can play new signings in January before having to get the numbers back down to 25 again.

That's a new idea, something the Premier League does making perfect sense.

I’d imagine that Brady will be removed for the second half of the season and that Ulvestad will get taken off too (as he’ll not get a game now Marney’s nearly back and he’s leaving at the end of his contract in the summer!).

Depending on Heaton’s health and injury status we may see Legdzins removed too- which will free up a space for an incoming centre half (if we get one).

The interesting thing could be the summer when if we’re to keep pushing the squad forward we need to get rid of people like Marney, Vokes etc...that will be controversial in the eyes of many o here.

This list is from premierleague.com and lists 28 players.
Comprising 4 keepers, Brady(not this season),Walters(indeterminate injury), Ulvestad & Brad Jackson. Nkoudou and Lennon are already listed.
It'll be interesting to see the list on Feb 1st
