Despite the reports, the same SSN have just reported that Burnley have had no contact from Chelsea.

Worth selling him just for the laughs we'd all get from the Chelsea fans.
They'd have an absolute meltdown.

There is no way that Chelsea will buy Ashley Barnes. I will be available for comment should the opposite occur

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Don’t Chelsea already have 12 forwards, better than Barnes on loan at other clubs?
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Just think how many free kicks and pens he'd win if he was wearing a Chelsea shirt!

"but here he is still starting PL games and scoring goals"
Sadly he's only actually doing one of those things.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
I agree...but it was a scarcastic swipe at the inequality of football, when at the beginning of last season they had 38 players out on loan.taio wrote:Nope.
Source The Guardian who wrote
*remarkable 38 Chelsea players are out on loan after seven left the club on a temporary basis on deadline day. Teams in England, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Colombia and Brazil have borrowed players from Chelsea.”
That cannot be good for the game.
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Chelsea also interested in tempting Grant Holt and Rickie Lambert out of retirement
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Barnes is an excellent player. Ask any oppo centre back.
Improving all the time. We tend not to provide our strikers with tap ins.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Congratulations to Ashley's agent for getting this story out there. As soon as he saw the Peter Crouch story he though...."hang on a minute"
Is his contract up or something ?
£10m or £9m and Wells
Ashley loves it here - he'd only move to Barca.

How many would Kane score given the same service Ashley receives?

Kane would score goals in any team....he makes his own chances as well as receiving good service.....of course with poorer service in a less attack minded team he wouldnt get as many but he will always be a threat.

Ashley is one of our best players and we should hold onto him no matter what. If you can’t see that you’re blind.

Don't believe this at all, having said that any prem team up to the top 7 he would be an asset, he can defend ,can hold up the ball has a good first touch wins fee kicks and can score , if he could beat a man and put in better passes he would be at Chelsea

Barnes deserves his shot at a major club if he gets the opportunity.
Can only see him being a squad player though.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
4 weeks ago I would have been convinced that this was dirty tricks to de-rail our top 4 push. Now I think it’s got to be an agent earning their corn. Or a pi**ed SSN reporter.
We are so much stronger with Ash up front than Sam, but just can’t see there being anything in this.

Can you give a good reason as to why Barnes deserves his shot at a major club ?burnley007 wrote:Barnes deserves his shot at a major club if he gets the opportunity.

I'd be flabbergasted if this were remotely true, respectable player though Barnes is.

I hardly believe Chelsea ever saw us as a threat for their Champions league spot or ever will.MattBFC wrote:4 weeks ago I would have been convinced that this was dirty tricks to de-rail our top 4 push. Now I think it’s got to be an agent earning their corn. Or a pi**ed SSN reporter.

I can assure you he was very popular at Brighton. In their last year at the Withdean Poyet played 2 up front Barnes and Murray.Dark Cloud wrote:TBH I don't think many Clarets do underrate him as he's almost universally popular here (unlike at Brighton where he seemed to be a "marmite" type of character.
.......Great business and possibly the best ever.
That season saw them as league 1 champions and Barnes was superb alongside Glen Murray.
Murray left for Palace as he was in dispute over a contract with Poyet...Craig Mackail Smith replaced him and in their first season in the Championship Barnes starts were really limited as Poyet played with a lone striker. Had Murray have stayed I believe Barnes would have prospered.
He is underrated imo, as well as his physical attributes, he has a quality first touch and packs a powerful shot. But when played as a 2nd striker he is so good at creating space for his partner.

Would be strange if true but even stranger are people on here who think Burnley are better than Chelsea when it comes to the valuation and recruitment of strikers.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
At this point of this season to let him go for anything less than silly money would be a mistake. We don't need the cash and he's a valuable part of the team that we would have to replace with little time left to do so. Genuinely think it would have to be a ridiculous offer for Dyche to consider it.
Anyway, I just can't see this happening whatsoever.

I agree with pretty much all of that and I am definitely a fan, but I THOUGHT I remembered reading comments on the Brighton forum around the time we signed him and that for every complimentary post there was someone saying they really didn't rate him. You probably did read someone write that...but “North Stand Chat” is no place to gauge the opinion of the vast majority of Albion fans. A bit like reading a post from certain posters on here.Dark Cloud wrote:I agree with pretty much all of that and I am definitely a fan, but I THOUGHT I remembered reading comments on the Brighton forum around the time we signed him and that for every complimentary post there was someone saying they really didn't rate him. I'm looking forwards to watching him turn up for training at Chelsea in his Smart car
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Hold out for £50.000,000
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Sure I read that he'd ditched the Smart Car (will have been on here). Add his hair transplant into the mix and the writing has been on the wall for a while now. He's changed. Billy Big Balls with his real car and fake hair. Good riddance!

Super agent Pini Zahavi is apparently behind it, has recommended our Ash to Abramovich.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
I don’t want to see Ashley go but let’s be honest; if Chelsea do make an offer for him then I think we have to consider him in this equation. We’d have to ask him if he’s interested....you couldn’t not do!
He’s 28, a deal with Chelsea would likely see him double his wages, get a massive signing on fee and pretty much set him up for life. It’d also be closer to his, and his wife’s family too. There’d be the chance of European football, title wins, cup wins etc...
His head “may” well be turned by the prospect of the above.
I just hope that if we do sell him then we make them pay through the nose and we get a decent player in return...

There surely can't be anything in this. I'm a huge fan of Ashley Barnes but come on...
On the plus side for Ash, he'll finally start getting the decisions from refs if he's playing for Chelsea.
