Both out at Newcastle by the looks of it, Defour one looks as though it could be longer term.

Cork and Westwood in the middle then, we should be fine.

Hopefully one of the two new wingers starts to inject something into our attack.

If neither of the two wingers do start, we could still field the same team that played Man City in the FA Cup earlier this month.

Any other season and we would be in a relegation battle with that injury list.

Injuries happen - we've got away with it over recent years to a large extent. This is a bad run though.

We haven't had a thread about training methods for a bit. Remember when we had that run of ACLs and it was down to Dyche training them too hard. Then we didn't have any for ages, that was down to Dyche's excellent training methods. Now we've got a few injuries, it's down to Dyche training them too hard.

Perhaps we should use the LET online as a guide to which players will be fit and available for selection?

Defour and Tarkowski both appear in interviews posted online Monday so obviously they have plenty of spare time as not training with the squad. 8-)

If Defour and Tarks are "touch and go" we'll be lucky to see them again this season! Joking aside our squad is looking incredibly thin now, if we had a few less points I might be getting a bit twitchy.

Injuries and suspensions can and will happen at most clubs, look at West Ham:

Michail Antonio, midfielder – calf injury.
Marko Arnautovic, attacker – thigh injury.
André Ayew, attacker – hamstring injury.
Andy Carroll, attacker – foot injury.
Edimilson Fernandes, midfielder – ankle injury.
José Fonte, defender – ankle injury.
Manuel Lanzini, midfielder – thigh injury.
Arthur Masuaku, defender – six game ban.
Mark Noble, midfielder – foot injury.
Pedro Obiang, midfielder – knee injury.
Winston Reid, defender – groin injury.

Beats ours I would say?

Agree with that. I think that coupled with the 'more signings unlikely' article has left me very frustrated to what otherwise has been a good window.

You can't just go and do that and it hardly shows a lack of ambition. Some of those players will be back and playing long before the end of the season so they need to be in the squad that we send to the Premier League at the end of this week. Bringing in players to replace injured players like that leaves you with too many players which will make things very difficult going forward.

Doesn't help that we will have 4 goalkeepers registered and taking up valuable squad places

Doesn't, you are right, but you can't risk going long term with only two fit goalkeepers so we had to bring in another when Tom got injured. Completely different situation than outfield players.

Lack of rotation > injuries > poor run of form. Westwood isn't the best player in the world but I'm sure he can manage more than the rare 10 minutes.

Ulvestad
Legzdins (SP) can make space, and I am sure if need be there are a few others able to be shuffled around

If you discount some players for the squad such as Marney, Walters, Ulverstad, Legzdins and even Brady (if no chance of coming back this season), space could be made for up to 3 player additions

We currently have 4 keepers and only 3 CB's

Not sure anybody with sense is blaming Dyche for it but some things are a known problem.

One issue is that according to someone I know in the NHS, who is one of the UKs top Physio’s, many professional football teams concentrate to much on training in the sagittal plane of movement (e.g. a deadlift) and not enough in the transverse plane (e.g. a twisting punching motion when using a strong pulley). As a result their muscles are imbalanced and cannot handle it at a random time when they are twisting while landing, pop goes the cruciate or patella tendon. My guy also tells me that due to this imbalance, even a simple thing like a lunge a pro footballer can often not do correctly, which seems bizarre.

The second issue, one I know less about but have read online, is this thing about modern pitches not having enough “give” or moisture. Now BFC have the better training pitches maybe that’s a factor? Then again, you’re damned if you do and damned if you do not, not enough training due to waterlogged training pitches and the player may fatigue more in matches and get injuries that way.

So, no blame should be attached, but injury prevention is as much an art as getting points on the board - no club will do it perfectly, and all will make mistakes.

We also wasted squad positions by having 5 strikers when we only played 1 up front. Wells looks like a pointless signing in the current climate and I don't see a place for him if we pursue with 4-5-1(which we should)

I think we all agree that it would be good to have another centre back, but the goalkeeper situation is necessary because we only have three fit goalkeepers.

Once of a day you could judge a squads strength by how good it's bench was. With us it's how good our treatment room is .

I was staggered about no new cb before I read that tarks was out. Now tbh i am disgusted. If defour is out long term surely we should be getting that elusive nr 10 and putting Geoff back where he is best.

Good to hear that Stephen Ward is now back in full training, who is such a key player for the Clarets. In fact I don't think we have won a league game since his last appearance.
Certainly one piece of positive news.

I mentioned on the squad list thread about our 4 keepers but until the two recent signings who were they keeping out?
The squad will be adjusted on Feb 1st and if Legzdins is still in we won't be seeing Tom this season.
