Sounds like a non-starter. Why would we let him out with no chance to replace? The only other player we have is Aiden O’Neill.

I`d be surprised if we ever saw him make another appearance in a claret shirt. I know he was on the bench last night but other than the keeper (or maybe not !!) he was the last sub who was ever going to get on.

As soon as we get any of our players back fit - Ward back in full training and Tarks does not sound far off then he won`t be on the bench.

If we have a chance to get him off our books we should do.

Seen him play a few times - but obviously not "many" as he has not played many times for Burnley.
He had a very good half in a cup game away at Arsenal a few years ago. Other than that he looked neat and tidy but did not have the strength or speed to cope in the middle of midfield.

He was shipped out to Charlton where it sounded like he started the season well but then picked up an injury and when fit could not get back in the team - which is a division one team who were not even pushing for promotion....which kind of suggests he is nowhere near good enough for a Premier League team. Nobody has been knocking our door down from the lower divisions to take him on loan since (as far as I know)

Let him go back to Sweden if he wishes. It's cruel to keep him in another country if he's not going to make it here.

Let him settle back at home and enjoy his football again.

Plays attacking midfield, no idea with Hendrick playing worse than a grandma why he doesn't even get a chance there.

Seen him play half a dozen times at least. A very mixed bag in terms of minutes, contribution and performance.

He had a decent game at Boro in the cup, put Andre through with a peach of a pass at Bolton. Think he did fine v Villa and arsenal too.

His range of passing seems good and he can use both feet, however he seems quite slow and week for our leagues.
There was a reason he was a free agent after the window had closed.

Seems a nice lad, but sadly just not good enough, which such is life sometimes in professional sport.

Really surprised at Ulvestad's development of lack of opportunity with us. I can remember him playing at Villa Park, last game of the 14/15 season and he was the best player on the pitch in my opinion that day. Thought he was a real prospect.

Can we recall O'Neill? If so might be an option although would we really harm O'Neill's development and game time by recalling him to sit on the bench?

Edit: A quick google search suggests we recalled O'Neill from his season long loan at Fleetwood. Is he currently injured? Don't remember him being on the bench at all.

O’Neil gone back out on loan hasn’t he? If that’s the case then he will have played for 2 clubs already this season so he would be ineligible to play for us anyway.

I agree that he’s very unlikely to make it but for the sake of a few months extra wages, I’d be keeping him as cover. I’m sure we’ll release him when his contract is up in the Summer.

We had attacking options substitutes on the bench last night and we brought three of them on. Defensive and defensive midfield subs are needed on the bench if there are injuries. Ulvestad was only ever going to come on if we needed another defensive midfielder on the bench.

Right now, or last night, he was our only option. It's not the first time he's been on the bench this season. Whether he moves or not before the Swedish window closes I don't know. He was certainly close to moving in the last window, the deal only broke down on the last day.

He`s not been on the bench much this season in the league (twice ?)
Personally I could not see a scenario last night where he would have been brought on - irrespective of the way the game was going. Even if we needed to bolster the defence or defensive midfield he would have just kept Westwood on or shuffled things about if there was an injury (or brought Lowton on).
Could not see SD taking such a risk to bring on a player he has not picked for the first team for a long time.

If we can move Ulvestad in this window then i will happily say farewell, the lad is never going to get in the first team so might as well be playing regular football at whatever level. Will free up a wage and another squad place also.

I've definitely seen him play at least once for us, the Arsenal cup game.

I'm sure some on here were getting a little excited about him and what they think they saw.

If we lost either Cork or Westwood to injury, Ulvestad still wouldn't play; either Hendrick would be brought back and someone else take his role (Wells, Lennon, Barnes ...) or else Arfield would play midfield and Lennon on the wing. Ulvestad's still along way from a starting role.

Last time I saw him was Fulham away nearly 2 years ago, was poor that night.
Lad has never been given a fair crack, although I doubt that he would be good enough at this level

How long have we had him? If he hasn't played many games by now it's obvious Dyche doesn't think he's good enough.

And he's been almost faultless since he's come in to replace Tarkowski.

Feeling brave enough to insult me to my face yet?

I'm aware of Long's length of service and appearance record.

Feel free to put up a pic of yourself so I can insult you back, until then shush.

Tarkowski will no doubt come straight back in but to say Long will be nowhere near the first team is ridiculous.
As spijed pointed out, Long as been pretty much faultless while Tarkowski has been out.

He was always a fourth choice CH. That's what he was last season anyway.

Our rather odd decision not to recruit a replacement for Keane hasn't backfired, like some predicted, but it meant that Long was promoted to third choice for that position. That's the only reason he'll be on the bench once Tarkowski is back is what I'm saying. :)

To be fair fc, I was originally replying to clarettclaret and his ridiculous statement that Long should be nowhere near the first team.
In the games he's played since Tarkowski has been out you could write on a pin head the mistakes he's made.

Yes 10 games without a win and counting, Long has been a real attribute to the team. Let's all pretend he's a top first choice premier league player. Let's all clap happy and thank the lord little old Burnley still has a football team haha.
