Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
I want to make a quick getaway on Saturday (to take in the Accy Stanley game), but traffic round the Cat's Whiskers roundabout is so slow nowadays I was wondering about going up Todmorden Road. Does anyone who goes that way have any advice? Particularly, is it better to turn right at Towneley Hall and go on Parliament Street, or to carry on up Tod Road and cut across to the Crematorium?

Advice is don't go up Tod Road - slower than going through town

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Park on Hargreaves at the bottom of Parliament Street (if still available, haven't been on there for a while).
Up Parliament St, along to Manchester Road, up to roundabout, up to Rossendale Road junction .
Turn right down to Rosegrove. Then left into Accy.
There'll be some traffic which ever way you go, but that's probably the quickest.

Town centre car park and pay £2.10. 15 minutes walk and you can watch game to the end and fly out. You will be in Accrington 35 minutes from the final whistle.
If you park anywhere around turf Moor you will struggle unless you leave early and what's the point in that

Christ o mighty, please don't tell me you live in Burnley. If you do you need to use that inherent gift we have called common sense. The stupid things people ask on here. I liken it to the posts asking if we need winter tyres round here for the 2 inches of snow we get all winter. I always park on Pheasantford Green at Duke Bar. A 15 minute walk through Thompson Park to the Turf. On the way back you can go up Greenhead Lane, down the Padiham Bypass then onto Accrington Road just off the A56.

If you park in the town centre then drive through the centre turning left at Panama joes and right when you get to the courts.

I park on the back streets just past the James Hargreaves bathroom place near the main entrance to townley park. Short cut over the level crossing after the game and always home for 5 30 game when the turf is a 3pm kick off. I live in Darwen so a few junctions further down than Accy too.

If you're staying until the end, want to clap every last player off and a steady walk back to the car. Then I'd park up near queen Vic pub. 5 min walk to car, up Eastern Avenue, down the other side past hospital, then either right to brierfield and pick up the motorway, or carry on down towards barden lane, turn right, pick up the padiham bypass.. then go straight through to the motorway junc 8.
Then you have 2 options for accy... straight over through Huncoat or right on m65 and go in that way.
Be tight all routes if we done get finished going up to 14:30
If you're leaving on 88-90 minutes, I can get you to accy in 20 minutes or junction 10 in 6 minutes.

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Thanks for all replies, apart from ClarinetClaret who is clearly having a very very bad day. Parking away from the ground isn't an option because one of us can't walk too far, so I'll try Electroclaret's route, and if I don't get away on time, so be it. It's only Accy Stanley. I won't be leaving early unless it's a very one-sided game, one way or the other!

It is City...so surely you leave at half time, leaving time for a couple in the 110 club. You can still dodge the traffic and get back to Accrington in time for a 3pm ok.cutsy123 wrote:Park away from.ground and walk to car leaving turf 5 mins early
On a serious point...park up on Pike Hill....leave via Cliviger pass Jay Jay’s to lights and straight over ...don’t live anywhere near Burnley but is it Rossendale Road?...my mate lives in Accy and he swears by that route.

Leave about 15 mins before the end of the match and then we can berate you on a thread afterwards.

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
I did something v similar last seasson.
I parked on Temple St, which is v close to Bob Lord Stand. (2 minutes walk).
Took a left up Oxford Rd to Parliament St.
Parliament St to Manchester Rd, (via Stanley St to cut out traffic lights)
Then Scott Park Rd - Coalclough Lane - Rossendale Rd - Accrington Rd.
Was at motorway in a about 10 minutes.

The road you use over the level crossing has been access only for years.Andreshotboots wrote:I park on the back streets just past the James Hargreaves bathroom place near the main entrance to townley park. Doesn't stop everyone...

I drive down it (and up on the way back) every Home match. It’s the quickest route from Woodgrove Road, where I park, back to the motorway.mealdeal wrote:The road you use over the level crossing has been access only for years.

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Police went through a phase of stopping cars on that little short cut, to ensure it was being used for access only.
They may still do it, just not as much on match day if they're busy elsewhere.
I was nearly caught using it a couple of times, but managed to get away with it

There are four houses for sale along Moseley Road.
Just tell the police that you're going for a look round before firming up your interest.

Pick up and drop off my dad's mate up who lives up there every game so access only is no issue for me.. it's the train and the level crossing that causes delaysmealdeal wrote:The road you use over the level crossing has been access only for years.

I hope you don’t drive a vehicle if you can’t understand a simple instruction like what ‘access only’ means. TC.UpTheBeehole wrote:Access to Glen View Road

Where is the Access Only sign on that road mealdeal?
I've just 'driven' up it on Google maps and couldn't see it.
Edit: found it, it's at the junction with Hollingreave Road

Been driving down there for twenty years or so, never ever been busy, can’t see what issue it causes.

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Wasn't always access only but is now and has been for a good few years. There was a match about four or five years ago when the police booked loads for using it after a game.

Surely you wa5ch 90 of the top flight and miss kick off at accy??

Re: Quick getaway from Turf Moor?
Small free car park on Westgate just down from what used to be the Stork pub opposite the car dealers. You can then just turn left back into traffic and your at Mitre lights in a few seconds. I park there then just walk along cansl and drop down at Tescos.

Park on Cow Lane behind the old Empire, then across St James St to roundabout and left and right up West way to motorway. Leave a few mins early helps.

"What time's kick-off?"turfytopper wrote:You could give Accy a ring tell them to hold the game back until you can get there lol. Enjoy both wins!
"What time can you get here?"
The old ones are the best.
I certainly won't be leaving early if it's close. But if we're 3-0 up I certainly don't want to see a City fightback to draw in the last 3 minutes; so I might be tempted to leave. But probably not, because I'd want to cheer them off. And if we're 3-0 down, then I wouldn't want to risk missing the three-goal fightback in the last three minutes - not likely to happen, but how gutted would I be to miss it if it did?
Anyway, the problem's probably solved itself because my Mum's got a streaming cold and may well not go. So I can park up by the Courthouse and miss most of the traffic.
