First Turf Moor game tomorrow

Post by groundhopper » Fri Feb 02, 2018 11:36 am

Hi guys,

I am a neutral and will be attending the Burnley vs City game tomorrow, I'll be in the lower tier of the James Hargreaves stand. I'm travelling by train and I'll be walking down to the ground from Burnley Manchester Road station.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for me as a newcomer to the ground, stuff like what the best food around the ground is, places of interest around it etc. I'm looking forward to visiting and hopefully I enjoy the game.

Cheers

Get thyself in the New Brew-m for great, inexpensive, real ale(£2.50 a pint). Then walk down St James St to Keirby Walk and get thyself a Haffner’s Pie from the eponymous Butchers.

If its raining, be prepared to get wet in the lower tier of the JH.

There’s a little Italian cafe/bistro on Parker lane about 30yards from the boot inn. The pasta is amazing. Penne amatriciana or the lasagne are TRULY world class. Enjoy a peroni or menabrea whilst in there. If ya like foreign poncy lagers brewed in burton on Trent, try the bridge beer huis. If you are normal, the boot does a decent range of real ales for beer drinkers, Amstel and Stella for the ladies and carling for the geezers.

If you're thinking of buying a Twix, bring a wad of cash.

The town is full of good Real Ale pubs but it's an early kick off.
If you want the town experience then get a black pudding from the market cafe and a Bene n hot when on the ground.
If you want somewhere to visit after the game then try the nearby Towneley Hall.

If you are on row 1 or 2 you will have a fine view of the linos ankles.
Enjoy.

Cheers everyone for the replies, appreciate it, feel a lot more informed about the Burnley area now.

@piston broke - it's my second game actually, I've only just started. Went to Deepdale two weeks ago for Preston vs Birmingham now it's my second game at Turf Moor.

Black pudding. Cricket Club. Go to the match. Then the miners for a bene and hot. The talbot. The Bridge. Takeout from the red lantern. Train home. Sounds like a world class circuit to me that!

As its an early KO, and you are in JHL, get yourself down centenery way (the dual carriageway heading down towards tesco), then head towards the ground and stop off at the cricket club for a pie and pint.

Then have a nice few at the aforementioned venues post-match

Good luck to you, groundhopper.

My guess is that if Turf Moor is only your second ground all the advice about where to enjoy an alcoholic drink may be a few years too early for you. However, we've all got to start sometime.

I'll tell you what NOT to do. Don't even think of wearing anything that combines the colours white and blue. (Especially if they're halved.)

Hi everyone, thanks very much for the advice. I really enjoyed yesterday's game and I will definitely be returning to Turf Moor again - I'm an Arsenal fan (sorry everyone) so I am going to try and get to an away game as the Turf Moor atmosphere was fantastic.

I wrote a detailed blog post about the whole trip on my groundhopping blog, feel free to read if you're interested. I plugged the forum on there too.https://groundhopping.wordpress.com/201 ... uary-2018/

Thanks again everyone for the help and I hope to see you all again soon! :D

Sounds like you enjoyed it. And both games you went to were an experience. I am sure you will look back on the 100 in years to come with great memories and pictures no matter how the games went. Fortunately ours was a cracker!
