Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
With all the talk about our injuries we still have some very good players (match winners) in the side.
If we can play anything like we did in the second half then it's certainly on.

Our fixtures definitely ease from now on in, so I don't see why the hell not.
Without Lennon, no. I think he's going to be the difference.

Definitely, we are through a tough run of games. Not saying that it will be a lot easier but phew thank the lord we've got through that batch of games.

We're 7th, why wouldn't it be? Not a great deal to worry about below us. Have you seen Everton?...

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
With slightly over 2/3rds of the season gone we are clear in 7th place. We only have 2 games left against teams above us in the table (whether that is a good thing or not as we have taken more points off the top 6 than any other club outside the top 6 so far this season) and a home fixture against each of our nearest rivals for the position.
Of course 7th place is within our grasp - it is already ours to lose!

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
I don't know whether we will do it or not but, right now, it is more than a possibility I'd think.
This is not 7th after a handful of games but after 26, over two thirds of the season played and with only two games remaining against the top six.
Is it still a realistic possibility - has to be, yes.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Ok, they have their 'hiccups', but the Top Six are miles ahead of the rest.
But we've proved, time and again this season, we're a brilliantly organised and capable side.
The continuity of our set up, and gradual improvement in our squad is, I'd suggest, playing a big part in us being 'The Best of The Rest'.
Honestly reckon 7th spot is between us and Leicester.

The pressures off, in comparison to other sides, so the lads can play and express themselves.

After watching the game today I honestly believe that we are the 7th / 8th best team in the league (closely matched with Leicester).

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Leicester and Everton dropped points again and probably didn't expect us pick up anything today, plus players returning from injury Lowton was immense 2nd half the key game could be us at home to Leicester, and how they handle the Mahrez problem, definitely a good chance of 7th.
Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
This season could turn out to be comparable in certain ways to the 73/74 season where we started well and finished well with a run of 10 games without a win in the middle and missing out on Europe on goal average/difference.
Not saying we won't win in the next 2 games but the team we beat to end that winless run of 73/74 was Everton at home.
Yes we can finish 7th but I'm not building my hopes up.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
definitely. The top 6 is sorted (unsurprisingly). Hopefully we can win the mini league to be best of the rest.
Seven points separating 11th and 20th is going to make for an interesting relegation battle as well.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Everton finished with 61 points last season, in 7th. Can we collect 25 points from our remaining games. I don't think so, no.
However, they also had 44 points at this stage of last season. Basically, the fact that Man City, along with the top 6 are clearly a much stronger force than the rest of us, changes things a lot.
With Everton finishing on 61, that's 15 points more than they had at this stage - meaning, it's unlikely we'll need 15 points from our remaining 12 games to cement 7th place.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Everton did finish 7th with 61 points but Southampton finished 8th with 46 points (Bournemouth 9th also with 46) - so 47 points wouldve got 7th last season.
Maybe another dozen points will do it. Leicester are probably the most obvious threat but the Mahrez situation may hold them back.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
On there day I think Leicester are a better team than us.........however, i think we have an easier run in, we are consistent, and we don’t have egos like Mahrez which might rock the boat.
I don’t see why not.
Jesus Christ my first season watching Burnley was 91/92. How far have we come!

But a valid point about Mahrez - I hope he keeps on sulking!

Should be 8th at worst especially if we can get a few players fit

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
1st to 20th are still all possibilities!!!
I said 9th around Christmas time, and will be sticking with that. Happy, believe me, to be proven wrong, but I said at the time Leicester and Everton would overhaul us. Wait and see, I guess.
Bought tickets for WHU, and determined to enjoy the rest of the season, regardless!

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
We have had some tough games in the last 8 but also some easy ones at Huddersfield, Brighton Newcastle. The next few easy ones are Swansea, Southampton, WBA and Everton. At least SD knows there are no easy ones and when we play those in the bottom 6 or 7 they are all fighting for their Prem. lives now making the games even more difficult. Interestingly compared with last season we are 8 points behind Everton who were 7th after game 26 and the bottom clubs have a few extra points on board.
If we perform like we did against Utd, Liverpool and City today we could do very well but if we play as we did against Newcastle and Palace then we may struggle to stay in the top half of the Table. Given the losses of Heaton, Ward, Brady Wood and Defour we have done remarkably well with the players who have stepped in

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
If you look at current form Watford, rather than us or Leicester, are the team to come seventh.
Obviously the hope is we've turned the corner with the win against Everton. There are two winnable games (maybe) against West Ham and West Brom and then we're playing Watford and Leicester which will definitely have an impact one way or another.

Watford have 4 of the top 6 still to play. A threat, but an outside threat.

Does 7th get us into the Europa League ? Or does it depend on who wins the FA Cup (IE if a top 4 team wins the FA Cup, then there'd be an extra Europa League place)

I think we need 15 points to secure 7th.
5 wins from 9
Good chances:
West Ham, Leicester, Brighton, Bournemouth, Stoke
Maybes:
Watford, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Brom (due to record)

In answer to the Op... no, 6th is. So much so I cashed in my top 10 finish odds and put my winnings on a 50:1 top 6 finish last week.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
The longer Arsenal stay in European contention the better our chances. One would have assumed that the Europa is s**t or bust for Wenger. if he doesn't win that he's out. On our side, it really depends on maintaining our intensity: not always easy after safety has been achieved. We were awful in the last two games last season.
Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Considering that prior to last Saturday's game we couldn't fall below 7th place no matter how hard we tried, I'd say it's in the bag!

To finish 7th would be a great reflection of where we have been all season. Pity about the injuries to so many key players and who knows where we would be placed if that didn't happen. But it did and we are still in there with a very real 7th to 10th place finish. What an achievement!

We had nothing to play for last season, the players have European games in their sites, this is the best chance most of them are ever going to get.

We need points against West Ham - preferably 3. I would expect Leicester to beat West Brom at the weekend - meaning if we lose we drop to 8th.
Also hoping for a draw between Brighton and Everton.

Re: Is 7th still a realistic possibility?
Much depends on the next game and the home game against Leicester
If we can come away from West Ham with a good result, preferable a win but a draw would still be
fine then we will have banished any thoughts of a slump in results and form.
Hopefully we will then be able to get a few good wins over the last 9 games or so
and keep ourselves up there.
A win at home against Leicester mid April might even seal 7th spot.
