Poor, poor tactics. Arfield on, for what?
Nkoudou gets a few minutes.
Not great.

I'd have to agree. Would've really attacked them today and put them under pressure from minute 1. We were too narrow and we let them have too much of the ball. I don't know what N'KKoudou has to do to get a start. Personally I want 4-5-1 with JBG at CAM but that's my opinion

Me too, but that was desperate. Aimless long balls all afternoon, chronic in possession, zero creativity.
Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
The Arfield sub lost us the game.

If you target one point instead of three then it's inevitable that you will get one or none.
Shocking today.

What peed me off more than anything was when they said there movement on the bench... Everybody just knew who it would be and I'm not knocking Arfield either.
If you sit off us we will struggle.

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Our squad is very thin with the injuries we are suffering from.

We seem to have got into a habit of playing for 0-0 after 70 mins, then going for it.
It's great when it works, but is a **** strategy when we lose.
I think the team we put out was a good one, good enough to beat Swansea, but the players haven't done their job. You can't blame SD for that.
Swansea would still be fragile , mentally, due to their league position, but we never tried to take advantage and put some pressure on. Why?

The limitations of Dyche’s rigidity are beginning to show. He needs to learn from this run.

Just boring to watch, and a waste of 90 minutes
I love watching Burnley but playing like that isn't attractive
I'm sure nkoudou feels great about being on spurs' books and seeing wells getting on before him

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Narrow and park the bus like we're a Conference team playing at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. That Olsen fella had the freedom of the pitch, didn't have to do any defending, camped in our half. It's the same guff as last season, sit in deep and welly it anywhere to isolated front players because the wide players are playing as secondary fullbacks.
Why are we sat off teams like Swansea? they're just as sh** as we are, go at them, push the team up the field, if we lose, so be it i'd rather lose while giving it a go and trying to win.

Yes, he probably lost us that game today with his overly cautious approach. However, that sometimes earns us points too so I guess we can't complain too much. Personally, I'm starting to become a little tired of our absolute ineptness in attack. I just hope that we improve in that area for next season.

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Their goal had been coming for some time we couldn't get hold of the ball at all,so in that respect I can understand the change, however imagine being a Swansea player not wanting to loose the game and faced with two very fast wingers you would drop off a bit , as it was they saw we were in for the point and pushed us back , we are definitely missing wood, and although Taylor is good , ward should start

But before the game I suspect many on here were thinking - 'Brilliant, we are starting 442, a really positive move by Dyche after the performance against Man City'.

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Defensively good, Taylor is showing plenty of quality, pope had a good game nothing he could do about the goal.
Taylor had to play well cause Lennon did not help him out, seems like a home player and a player to bring on away from home.
Cork and hendrick pffft pretty pointless.
Arfield looks as though he’s started to wind down looked like he was carrying more timber than usual prob doesn’t expect to play much now we have three genuine wingers and one to come back with his contract up in summer.
Barnes is going to become the scapegoat soon enough, people like him for his brute force and ability to make defenders panick and us pick up the peices. He’s not going to do that in the role behind vokes.
Vokes had some snap shots dragged them all and won a few headers that’s about it really. Expect nothing less from a player who never gets the opportunity his career for us has deserved. Get treated as a play when your desperate you will get that back.
Today was desperate.
Didn’t deserve to win

Nothing more, nothing less.
Be careful what you wish for.
It's boring percentage football week in, week out, but it's effective if your only aim is to keep clean sheets and crawl to 40 points year on year.
The results early on masked the performances, I can count on 1 hand the amount of games we can honestly say we have deserved to win. Sometimes even when we have won, the displays have been crap.

We have gone back to unatractive 442 from attractive 451 because he is trying to pkay to the strengths of what we have available for selection. Surely all those who had seen the line up would know what the tactics would be today. We are 8 of our first team down stick with it.

Didn't watch the game but this is exactly how we did it last season and we stayed up. But this season we have the players to dictate the game and win! Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Genuinely sorry for the travelling fans today. They deserve so much better than that. This is a dreadful run, devoid of any attacking intent in far too many games with tactics that are strangling the life from the team. A team that were probably content with a polnt became a team with intent for all three after seeing the 'negative' substitution changing the whole tone of the game. Very, very poor and naive on the manager's part.

I have been saying this all year even when we have "played well". Most games under Dyche have ended up with me saying at half time "this is awful" and then saying at full-time "how did we get somthing from that".MACCA wrote:Allardyce/Pulis esc

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Dyche must believe the hype surrounding this seasons achievements but sorry that was soul destroying dross, persistantly picking the totally inept Hendrick, pace and skill left on bench ie Wells & NKG no craft or guile in the play just a big lump upfield in hit and hope footy, no movement from the front two. Westwood must think how bad does Hendrick have to get before he`s dropped, Wells could be the nearest thing we have to a Ings type player and we know that can work well playing off the big man so why does the Messiah not give it a go instead of the boring dross he seemed happy to watch today. I wonder if they do season tkts for the dugout as certain players must look alot better from there than the JHU.

...I've got to add I watched a good stream today and we were defo second best almost throughout. But six regular first teamers out is a big burden for us to carry, and we've made a decent fist of it (six of the none-wins have been against teams in the top six, and we've drawn with MU and MC)

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
I fully understand settling into the thou shalt not pass after an opening salvo if it isn't rocking the opposition (look what it did to Chelsea for eg.) but we seemed to have quickly dropped that part of our game despite it being so effective at the start of the season. To me full steam for quarter of an hour to try and rock the opposition and then same again on 70 minutes if the early surge didn't work, is far preferable to just the latter.

Of course we have but even if the 6 or 8 injured players where fit we are a below average side in terms of ability in this league..longsidetrumpet wrote:...I've got to add I watched a good stream today and we were defo second best almost throughout. We are still massivly overachiving.
Still poor though and wish one of these loan players we keep getting was given a go.

Loaing Defour is a huge blow to our ambition to olay 5 in the middle.
Hendrick is sturggling for form.
Cork looks half a yard off.
Barnes and Vokes try hard but struggle to diniah at rhis level.
Nkoudou is not the saviour here - hes too lightweight. To be honest I would have oreferred to see Wells for Barnes on 60 and give him a decent run alongside Sam as the target man.

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
I said ages ago that Brady's injury would upset the team's balance and that the resulting blip would probably postpone our guaranteed safety until March.
Those other five, yes five, injuries - four of them regular international players - has merely compounded the problem. If we have to do it by scratching the odd draw so be it.
If we can grab a win even better.
We have to remember our first objective was to ensure safety - we've damn near accomplished that.
Anything beyond that, given our depleted squad is pure bonus.

However we played today, the quality of support on this thread is shockingly poor. Puts the Man City fans of last week, after our game, in a better light now. Since Swansea changed their manager, I would consider Swansea's form to be definitely top 10, possibly top 6. Added to that just like West Brom we really struggle to get the better of Swansea.

Yes, it certainly is bad that we have gone the same way as Liverpool and Arsenal and the all-conquering Wolves in recent matches at the Liberty Stadium.
We have only beaten Swansea 4 times in 22 attempts away from home before today so, in view of Swansea's recent form and the past history, it was no surprise to me that we lost.

Its all fair comment about Swansea bei g on a good run as they are. This was never gping to be easy. That said they didnt look like scoring and the goal came out of nothing really.

Yes they've had a change of manager, but they still aren't a good team, just things are going for them at the moment.
At the end of the day, it's not the result thats disappointing, **** happens, but the level of performance, against a side in a nervous league position wasn't good enough.
If we'd played well and got beat, as we have a few times this season, I could take it. Sean promised us sweat on the shirt as a minimum. So far he has delivered that big time, but today it didn't sound anything like it.

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
Been some bad performances in this bad run of form we have hit and the longer it goes on the worse it gets
Teams like your Huddersfield Palace Newcastle Swansea should have reap us points Swansea have took 6 points off us for a team that's been in the bottom half all season is certainly not good enough
We huff and puffed all day and with no desire or creativity
Long balls being hit up field going no where, tactics we're all wrong and even with a depleted team it should have been still strong enough to have got something today.
We seem like we were playing for the draw and shot our selves in the foot 4 out of 10 performance today just a little better than we so a Palace that was another bad one we can't keep blaming the opposition that's in front of us as a quarter of this bad run should have yealed wins UTC

Anyone bothered to consider whether there might have been a positive reason for bringing Arfield on?
Like, for example, he's the best player in the club at making third man runs into goal scoring positions?

Re: I Back Dyche To The Hilt, But He Got It Wrong Today
It was a poor game to watch.
Bit slow with the substitutions.
Vokes and Barnes just didn't click today at all and it was obvious fairly early on.
However, we've had a large chunk of our squad out with injury which is showing.
I'm struggling to see what Hendrick offered today...
A possible idea is to stick Arfield or Joey behind a lone striker instead of using Hendrick or Barnes.
