Re: Gordon Taylor
A complete useless individual who has failed to represent his members on a wide range of promblematic situations from depression amongst footballers both present and past and gambling.
How on earth this ex player managed to stay in his very lucrative post while doing nothing is a mystery.

Re: Gordon Taylor
He's been in the job for a long time aswell.
I remember being sat next to him about 10 years ago in first class train travelling back from London.
What a horrible fat odious bloke he was - had to put up with him for nearly 3 hours. I remember a report coming out quite a few years ago which said he was on £450k a year - he's obviously increased his salary in line with the Premier League TV deal.

An absolute disgrace.
Is there anything we as fans can do about it?
Probably not but maybe if enough of us protested then something would be done.

Christ, his bank balance will be bulging now.
For didn't he get £700,000 as settlement for being one of the News of the World
phone tapping victims? Maybe he was due that, but his bank manager will adore him.

Re: Gordon Taylor
If you earn £1.9 million gross, why do you need to claim £40,000 for your car?
I remember a Liverpool players wage slip being leaked appen a decade ago, Jon Arne Riise maybe? And he was on something like 80,000 a week, but didn't have to pay for his car or mortgage. WTF do you spend 80k a week on if you don't need to pay for your car or mortgage?!

Re: Gordon Taylor
It's not like he's running a huge complex corporation .
Would be interesting to hear his justification for that salary and to understand what the day to day role involves?
He comes across terribly in interviews etc.

Re: Gordon Taylor
A lot of people seem to know an awful lot about what the PFA and Gordon Taylor does. Whether what he (and the other staff) justify their salary I can't say but it would be wise to see what the PFA say they do:

Re: Gordon Taylor
I'm no financial expert but, reading that PFA financial statement, it looks like his salary (in fact the whole PFA caboodle) is basically paid for by TV money.

Re: Gordon Taylor
Is he elected by the PFA and who actually decides his Salary package I wonder?
It can't be him that decides.
It's well reported how he has 'cashed in' during his tenure but he represents all of footbal not just the Premier League big hitters so you have to think he must be doing something.
Saw Jeff Astles daughter on the tv earlier, she walked out on him during a meeting when he was bleating about lack of money to research the ball heading theory.
She wasn't happy that for certain.

Scored twice against us in 71-72. I was there. I skived off school to take the coach down to Birmingham on the Friday. We were the only white people on the coach. That was a strange one. Trevor Francis was in there team as a 16 year old. Rough????????????? 50p to look after yer car, mister.

I didn't quite understand why the Guardian article had to say this;
"Taylor has been in charge of the PFA since 1981 and lives in Lancashire."
It is not clear whether living in Lancashire is a good or a bad thing.

Nice guy, always ready to say hello when he's out and about in Whalley. Paid for a school trip for his granddaughter's school class (which included my daughter). Decent bloke.

37 years in the job would suggest change is required,someone younger like Clarke Carlisle who may bring a different perspective to issues.Corky wrote:I didn't quite understand why the Guardian article had to say this;

Re: Gordon Taylor
I suspect Gordon Taylor couldn't care less as long as he gets his salary. Looking at his record he has done nothing for the benefit of the game and with the scandal about abuse in the game he has said nothing in support of any players affected.Sidney1st wrote:So 37 yrs in the job?

He's been too busy looking at his bank account.

How do you spend £2,000 a year on a phone? Who on earth is he ringing?
Also - is this salary not paid for by footballers - i.e. members of the trade union that he is in charge of?
If so, I don't give a monkeys how much he's on.

You?
Perhaps you could enlighten us with your intimate knowledge of the issues that Gordon Taylor gets involved in on a day to day basis. Give us some idea of the things he has represented players on in let's say the last 6 months. I'm guessing (I do admit to guessing) that most of the work done by the PFA at all levels in professional football doesn't result in tabloid headlines and isn't common knowledge, but you clearly know.
Or maybe you don't know jack.

Re: Gordon Taylor
If his salary was paid for by the members it wouldn't be of public concern. It would be a matter solely for professional footballers to sort out and ask why he was getting rich from their salaries.Foulthrow wrote:Also - is this salary not paid for by footballers - i.e. members of the trade union that he is in charge of?
If so, I don't give a monkeys how much he's on.
However, the PFA demands money from all who pay for TV rights for football. Thus, if you have a TV licence or subscribe to Sky or BT Sports then you are contributing to Gordon Taylor's £2million PA + expenses.
