Shimla Spice

Post by MACCA » Sun Feb 18, 2018 12:44 pm

Heard lots of good things about this place on here, so went for my debut last night, and safe to say I'll definitely be going back.

Everything was top notch, the service was excellent and the food even better
Best restaurant curry I've ever eaten round here.

Got the Asian style curry, and can't rave enough how tasty and cooked to perfection it was. I wanted to try more dishes when I'd finished.

I won't be waiting as long to go back.

Up the Clarets recommendations pays off again!

What are people's thoughts on Aroma, near the Talbot? Thinking of staying out and going for a curry after the Everton game just assumed Shimla would be really busy on a Saturday night and would rather not have to book if possible.

I've always thought 'Aroma' a strange name for a restaurant. Definitely a double edged word for me.

Bonus that you can also take your own beer/wine in.
Wasn't much more than I usually pay for my takeaway.

Was food perving at other meals coming out too, some on sizzling skillets , looked and smelt great

My thoughts on Aroma are to cross the road and go to Shimla

Absolutely no complaints about Aroma.. been many times...food and service are excellent.
Having both restaurants opposite each other will keep them on their toes as well.

I went to Aroma last weekend and it was brilliant. It’s always good but seemed particularly excellent that night, maybe because I’d had a skinful already :D Never been to Shimla but heard mixed things, probably more good than bad though.

Shimla stated in Keighley, then opened in Shipley which recently won Curry Restaurant of the Year. Azeems in Keighley is better though!

Asian style is a Bradford thing, different spices and ghee rather than oil. Plenty of great Currys in Bradford and not so far for you Burnley based people to go. Great bars in North Parade too, well worth a night out.

Was just going to ask this, thanks.

Rough idea of the spices/ other ingredients so I can try to make something similar?

Both are ok. Went to Shimla but there were several boneheads carrying-in boxes of Stella and making noise.
Aroma had to up his game once the competition appeared. Both handy for DJ Basil's first Saturday of The Month at the real-ale swilling Coach and Horses.
UTC.

I went in there post curry, there was a band on. I mentioned to the land lady someone always promotes it on here.
She said you've been her DJ for 17 years or something, even going back to her cattle Market days?

Was dubious about shimla. Partly because of the awards and partly because of the hygiene ratings. Neednt have been . Was brilliant. Followed it up with one in Keighley the week after and I have to say the one in Keighley was even better.

Some of the best curries ive had.

The best curry ive had in this country though is Ziyas, Rusholme. 11/10!

Is there a little off license that sells booze across the road from Shimla, or have I imagined it?

Not anymore, closed down a couple of years ago.
But the Coach and Horses across the road sell cans if you're caught short, but you can take whatever you want alcohol wise.
1 party next to use had half an offlicence in 2 massive wash house bags.

I agree the boneheads are a problem if you go in later...I always go between 6 and 7 pm when itis relatively quiet.

You must have just been unlucky. Been in there numerous times for an 8.30pm meal and never seen any inapproppriate behaviour. However, I do think that with them not selling alcohol people do tend to take probably far more than they need, just to make sure that they don't run out!

Aroma is the best place for a curry in Burnley IMO

Never been so clever after going to Azeems the morning after, but admit it does always taste good, Shimla at Keighley think have got to pretentious, used to go regularly when it first open but tend to avoid. Khalids by the station is always good.
