I thought the match got abandoned if a side went below 8? Sure that was the rule, I'm sure a few years ago Warnock (?) was 'accused' of deliberately trying to get the match abandoned by this method.

A game gets abandoned if a team goes below 7 men. In this instance, Vitoria had three sent off in the initial incident reducing them to 8 men whilst Bahia had five sent off reducing them to 9 men as three of those sent off were unused substitutes.
In the second incident with 11 minutes left, Vitoria had two more men sent off reducing them to 6 men at which point the match was abandoned.
