Re: Your spring photos
One of my frequent visitors.
See it most days. Apparently not common for a Wood Mouse.
Must really like the seed I put out!

Attempt at capturing Star Trails last night.
Took 3 photos lengths around 10, 20 & 40 minutes.
Was windy hence movement of bushes.
This is one automatically created in Google photos and I think is an overlapping over 40 minute image with one of the others.
707 seconds
1409 seconds
2447 seconds
I mistakenly used f/3.5 rather than say f/11.
But am intrigued with the idea of it.

Thank You.
Basically I don't know what I'm doing and I reason if I spout a load of gobbledegook it might sound more impressive.

For Buxtonclaret:
I pointed the box thingy and clicked the clicky thing on the top. The dialy things were too complex so I left them alone. There was a little picture of a running man and I had the arrow pointed at him.

With Astrophotography there are basically two things that are relatively easy to attempt.
Star Trails where you want as long an exposure as possible so need to avoid too much peripheral light getting in.
Capturing The Milky Way
where you need an exposure time somewhere around 20-40 seconds otherwise you start to get movement of the stars but you need a very high iso 6400+ and as much light getting into sensor as possible, whilst choosing an area of low light pollution.

Cheers, CC
I know Wildboarclough well.
Think Macc/Prestbury/S Mancs light area could well be shielded.
But Cressbrook/Miller's Dale is easier to get to for me.
Could try there.

I've just been looking at ALP's picture of Janets Foss.
On Sunday Julia Bradbury was on the tele doing her Malham Cove Walk and she was at Janets Foss.
I quote.... "it makes you want to take off your clothes and jump in"
Crack on Julia, you tease.

Put the camera into manual setting.
Select the bulb setting for shutter speed using a shutter release cable.
Have the lens aperture as wide as possible (lowest available f number) to let in as much light as possible.
Alter the ISO setting to the highest available.
If you are taking a 30 second photo you might as well use the long exposure noise reduction setting.
Use the screen if you have one and magnification feature to manual focus on a star.
Weigh down the tripod with something handy so as to minimize any potential movement (wind etc.)

To be fair unless you have a DSLR (even a fairly cheap one) it's practically impossible to do night photography.
I use my smartphone for most of my daytime landscape photography.
21 megapixel camera.
Using Open Camera app which has a lot of nice features
Smartphones much more convenient for uploading photos.
I shoot in RAW with my Canon so more time consuming but I use it primarily for Animal portraiture.
Re: Your spring photos
Good luck with that CC.

Re: Your spring photos
That's the one, they reckon it could be from Canada or dragged in by tbe 'Beast from the East'.
It has been around the east coast for a couple of weeks.
Looking through someone's Swarowski scope you could just make out the mottled feather pattern as the light fluctuated. It only dawned on me walking back, I could have taken a better picture on my phone using the scope.
Live and learn!

Sometimes these once in a lifetime (being so close in nature - I was right in the middle of a Starling Murmuration a few years ago) events are best enjoyed without a phone or camera.

This was a birding thing rather than a photography desire, it is a rare visitor and one of several different visitors I have been fortunate to see at Frampton Marsh RSPB. Sometimes they are quite a bit closer thoughCaernarfon_Claret wrote:Or do what I did - go to a falconry centre.

I saw a 40,000 murmaration at Minsmere a couple of years back and an 8,000 one at Frampton Marsh last year. The thrill of having those birds up close and personal as the converge from different points of the compass is amazing in the true sense. Even yesterday as we walked along the causeway to see the Snowy Owl, we had hundreds of Brent Geese flying just over our head a few times. Again, as you say definitely something to savour!

Here's my into-picturing painting in the garden, today. The ivy is really now beginning to play a part:
