Avenged Sevenfold (x2)
Black Label Society
Biohazard
Buzzcocks
Blondie
The Cult
The Cure
Disturbed
Franz Ferdinand
Glenn Hughes
GNR
Hugh Cornwell (few times)
Iron Maiden
KISS
Korn (multiple)
Janes addiction (multiple)
Oasis
Megadeth
Metallica
Motley Crue (few times)

Pearl Jam (few times)
Red Hot Chilis (multiple)
Rob Zombie
Sepultura
Slash (few times)

I was a bit baffled by that quote as I didn't remember writing the bit about Kingmaker but then realised it was your reply to my post.
What confused me was that I think I was at that gig - did Elastica support them?

Re: Original Bands/Artistes you've seen
That's right mate. I was so disappointed with Elastica that night. In reality they'd just had too much hype and needed time to develop. (that's my opinion anyway). I saw The Family Cat support Carter at KGH 92 I think decent gig that.

Re: Original Bands/Artistes you've seen
Been waiting for a reason to sort through my gig tickets. Many never made it home but i've just relived some great memories looking through that lot (a good few hundred in there and counting). The noteworthy artists include...
The Rolling Stones
Prince
Guns N Roses
Orbital
Aphex Twin
The Stone Roses
The Who
Daft Punk
Motorhead (Found a hand written letter that Lemmy sent to us in the post which I thought we'd lost)
Herbie Hancock
The White Stripes
The Buzzcocks
Metallica
Iggy Pop (Got on stage which was fun)
PJ Harvey
Jack Johnson
Mark Knopfler
Fatboy Slim
Nine Inch Nails
Amy Winehouse
Radiohead
Deep Purple
Oasis
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Leftfield
Alice Cooper
The Charlatans
De La Soul
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Pulp
Gorillaz
John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Madness
Kasabian
Foo Fighters
The Killers
Underworld
The Strokes
Arctic Monkeys
The Libertines
QOTSA
The Cure

Muse
Devo
Kings Of Leon
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas
Coldplay
The Pixies
Happy Mondays
Brian Wilson
Spiritualized
REM
The Whalers
Greenday
Primal Scream
The Coral
The Prodigy
Beautiful South - Possibly the best arena show i've seen
Robbie Williams - Don't judge
But some of the best shows were definitely the less establish acts:
The Music - Best gig ever (counted 11 tickets for them but I saw them many more times)
The Flaming Lips
John Grant - My current favourite artist
The Vines
Superorganism - Best gig of 2017 by a country mile
Sparks - Next best of 2017
The Last Shadow Puppets
Rodrigo y Gabriela
AFI
The XX
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
2 Many DJ's
Jet
The Darkness in the wake of that brilliant first album
Biggest regret was not seeing Arthur Lee with Love when I had the chance. Somebody above mentions them. I can't go more than a few weeks without a listen to Forever Changes.
I've not even tried to recall the festival lineups...

Re: Original Bands/Artistes you've seen
Back in the 70's Kiss were new but a bit of a phenomena, it was their first tour here but they were already famous (or infamous). A mate and I went to the Free Trade Hall to book some tickets for another gig and they were on that night and tickets were available so we got some. I knew we had problems when they came on and they drummer kicked the bass drum and it sounded like a small nuclear weapon. Simply put they were loud (I like loud but this was loud on another level) but it was the music as well, it was fairly ordinary rock played at stupid levels of noise and the whole thing was a bit over the top. The 'show' was impressive at first but then we came to realise that that was all it was about. In short it was poor music disguised by noise levels and lights and it became boring. I think we lasted an hour. To give you some idea of the decibel levels: I've seen The Who and loved every minute of it with hardly any light show just them, and they were loud, but this lot were just too loud and we were actually deaf for a while when we came out.Croydon Claret wrote:What happened with Kiss?
I have since enjoyed some of their music but that gig was poor.

Yeah you're right on both counts, I loved the Mill and remember how the sweat used to drip off that low roof. Think one of the last gigs I did there was Therapy? The barrier at the front collapsed under the weight of a surge, it was a really exciting time on the music scene.TheFamilyCat wrote:I wish I was 16 again. Life was much easier. I think I only went to The Mill once. Preston never really seemed to be a regular tour stop-off although I did see a few bands at the Guild Hall. Didn't the Mill re-open with a new name (Club 53 or something similar?)Beehole67 wrote:Yeah you're right on both counts, I loved the Mill and remember how the sweat used to drip off that low roof. I've seen them too but they were such a short-lived outfit I've assumed they couldn't have played too many gigs.
I saw in them at Sheffield City Hall supporting All About Eve - think it was about 1989. Got the ticket stub somewhere so I can check. Chris Sharrock from The Icicle Works was on drums.

The La's reformed around 2005 for a tour and festivals. Pretty sure there was something odd about the drummer then - think he may have sacked a drummer just before the tour so ended up with his gardener drumming for them.midlander63 wrote:Where did you see the La's?

Just returned from a short break in NYC to see three shows from Screaming Females to launch their new album "All At Once".
One of the best live acts I've ever seen and really, really nice people.
There's plenty of their material on youtube, links to a few favourites below

For a manufactured band Bon Jovi aren't bad, but obviously a long way to go catch up to One Direction

Re: Original Bands/Artists you've seen
A few mentions of Richard Thompson on these posts. I'm too young to have seen the early Fairport Convention line ups 67-68 but having discovered their early recorded work, the line up including Thompson, Sandy Denny and Ian Matthews would surely have been some gig.LeadBelly wrote:Going way back to 60s to early 70s

Not too many mid 70s to mid 90s
Loads in the last 15-20 years, most well known off the top of my head:
Stones, Emmylou Harris, Sparklehorse, British Sea Power, Super Furies, Richard Thompson (a few times), Page/Plant, Martin Simpson, Martin Carthy, Bellowhead, Billy Bragg, etc etc
Got to 17 gigs & a day-festival in 2017, already done 2 gigs this year & have tickets for 7 more over the next couple of months. I'm 68 now and my first gig (end of the pier summer show) was when I was c 12 years old.
Live music - next best thing after SX, food/drink & sport.
