Time to turn it on Burnley
A home game against a relegation threatened side just before people decide whether or not to renew Season Tickets is the perfect time to put in a good entertaining performance.
We can't be relegated so let's take a risk or two and try and win the game in the first half for a change, get the attacking players in the game more.
Come on clarets turn it on today.

Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
Seriously? We've turned in some really good home performances too. I'm not sure what some people want from us. Do you want us to go out and play like Man City and get picked off every week? We are who we are and we've turned in performances both home and away that have been exceptional.Quickenthetempo wrote:The results have been fine but the entertainment on show has been low so far. Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
Well I'm feeling positive about today, 3 goals I think, with us on the right side of the result.
Regarding the renewal I've been asked by a couple of friends who also take their kids on if we are bothering next season.
They put it down to the cold wet weather effecting them where they sit, and the lack of entertainment, and their kids being bored, which is annoying for 2 hours if you have to entertain the child during the game.
No matter how much you try and dress it up, 7-11 year olds ( and many more ) want to see goals and wins, saying we have competed well, we were unlucky and are still 7th doesn't process in their heads.
All kids talk about are goals and goalscores when back at school, or on the footy pitch with mates.
None want to discuss framework, fine margins and resolute defensive displays.

Keep doing what you are doing Burnley FC. It's brilliant, it is working and to see us in the top half of the Premier League is absolutely incredible.
The days when you had to be a die hard (or fool) to continue was in the 1980s, certainly not today.

How on earth can you not get up for going to watch us. Early 90s, you mean the basic long ball stuff we played under Jimmy Mullen. Is that what you want to see? There are crap clubs in League Two who probably play like that, but you won't get to see the top clubs in England if you start watching your football there.
I'm staggered - just don't get how anyone can not be enjoying what we are achieving at Burnley right now.

We are doing our best with a crippling injury list and a threadbare squad. Next season we will be more equipped for such a run. Fourtyfifth year next season unbroken season ticket holder, I am not stopping because Man U and Liverpool scored late winners and we only drew with quite possibly the most expensive team to ever come to Turf Moor.

I havnt felt so flat about a game in a while. We are in a great position but some of our performances lately have been poor. It would be nice to see a bit of creativity and excitement but the injuries are not helping. I think we have really missed Defour, Brady, Ward and Tarkowski.
Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
I agree with the original post .. time to take some more risks and go for it.
Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
And there’s unarguably a positive correlation between [children’s] enjoyment and goals scored. So now’s the time to try to bang a few in.
Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
Hmmm let's ask Southampton's defence and keeper to acquiesce.LS7 wrote:And there’s unarguably a positive correlation between [children’s] enjoyment and goals scored. So now’s the time to try to bang a few in.
Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
It’s a tactical choice on an attacking approach with some inherent risks .. have you ever played football? Or watched it?

Having said that: I’ve got a bet on a few draws today so steady as she goes for the nailed on 0-0 Clarets !

Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
Southampton are a good side, underperforming but playing for a manager who they dont believe in by the looks of things. They need the points more than we do but we need a win. Could be a classic. Doubt it though...
As for 90s vs now. The standard of player we have now is undoubtedly far superior. But the excitement and entertainment is nowhere near 1991 to 94 or even 1998 to 2002 for me.
Different type of excitement. I enjoy going to watch us. But in a different way i guess its more tense. And hope rather than expectation.

Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
I have never been to watch Burnley for entertainment. I always want us to win, it's ingrained. I watch other sports and even other teams for 'entertainment' and now that I'm older I can appreciate the finer details of what makes a team, and a winning team at that. Every attack, moment of possession, quick throw-in and pass to our own teammates is a moment of optimism that might lead to a goal and a win. Heightened pleasure comes from aesthetically pleasing football but I used to get this from watching 4 consecutive passes from our own team in the 90s. I can never be bored watching Burnley, only disappointed from a negative point of view, but this is rare thesedays. I love our wins, draws and the obvious desire and effort shown by the team.
Saying that, it would be a nightmare with kids I can imagine. Football is like beer, you can't appreciate it until you get older!

The long ball game in the 4th division worked and brought excitement as defences couldn't cope, now football has changed and sides are far more defensive and cope easily.
We might be a tiny club in a big league but we have the players to go at teams now, it's through choice we don't.

Understand the sentiment but surely the most important thing is to get three points today. Sporting success and confidence go hand in hand. The Coyle months in the prem were exciting. We took risks. We were often out of the game by half time. Yes indeed OP! How right you are.
I'm sick of watching little old Burnley competing in the best league in the world, taking points from the biggest teams with the best players and managers. Oh for the happy days when we could score lots of goals in Grimsby and lose.

It's certainly far more competitive than La Liga, for example, where two corrupt clubs win the league season after season.Quickenthetempo wrote:Best league in the world? Get out of Murdoch's arse. 14 teams surviving relegation no matter how you dress it up.

Re: Time to turn it on Burnley
people expect too much too soon, yes today was a bad one, but we have to accept grabbing a point.
Not that long ago, it would have seemed remarkable earning a draw with southampton.
We are almost in March 2018 and still in top ten in the top flight. More money will be coming our way as a result of maintaining our Premier status.
Had we not suffered catastrophic losses of Heaton, Brady, Defour, Tarks, Ward, we might be a good deal higher, not to mention scandalous refereeing decisions over the past 6 months.
I understand some fans venting their anger , but we look pretty good from my point of view, One step at a time. We need a bit of patience.
