Pope 8 - better distribution, one amazing save
Lowton 7 - fine
Long 7 - fine
Mee 7 - fine
Ward 7 - fine
JBG 4 - generally very poor. Final delivery woeful and played most the game as a centre forward, which was weird.
Cork 6 - he was ok
Westwood 8* - very good, and so unfortunate for the goal
Lennon 6 - ok
Hendrick 4 - good off the ball, unfortunately dire with it.
Barnes 6 - ok

Wasn’t too bothered about the lack of subs myself. Thought Southampton were dreadful and never looked like scoring until the appalling referee got involved.

Pope MOM 7. Brilliant save from Sims
Lowton 4
Long 4
Mee 5
Ward 5
JBG 5
Cork 5
Westwood 4
Lennon 3
Hendrick 3
Barnes 4 inc 1 for goal.

If Wood was fit he had to play.

Not sure which game you were at FCBurnley, but it sure wasn't the one played this afternoon, if you thought the defence were all below par or even poor.

Bizarre ratings.

Absolutely no problem with us defensively today - one save apart, Southampton never threatened until they scored in that last minute.

Pope 7 - great save to tip it onto the post
Lowton 6
Long 6
Mee 7
Ward 7 - didn't look like he had been out for that long
JBG 5 - couldn't get it past there backs
Westwood 7 - confident with the ball and worked well with cork.
Cork 6
Lennon 5 - pretty isolated and didn't do much when he had the ball
Hendrick 5
Barnes 7 - had there back two nervous and with this in mind sd should have put wood on with him as a 442

SD - 4 should have changed it and we would have walked away with a 2 or 3 nill win.

Two poor teams going forward. Had 0-0 written all over it but two farcical goals mean it ended about right. JGBs worst game for a while, Lennon looked lacking in confidence and Hendrick needs taking out of the line up for a couple of weeks

I have to mention Dyche tonight. I’m not normally a critic for all he has done for the club, but today he got it wrong. The lack of changes when we clearly weren’t functioning in an attacking sense cost us, because as well as the defence do their job we simply aren’t keeping cl an sheets anymore and so need 2 goals to have any chance of winining a game at the minute.

Southampton were there for the taking. I'm not convinced we will score more than one goal in another game this season because the tactics are so negative.

Pope 7
Lowton 7
Long 6 distribution hit and miss
Mee 7
Ward 7 looked better with him in
Cork 6
Westwood 7 tidy football
JBG 7
Lennon 5 poor balls and lightweight
Hendrick 5 ok off the ball which must be why he is picked. Little confidence on it although marginally better overall.
Barnes 6

A classic example of deep breaths before knee jerk reactions.

Pope 7 (great reach for that save)
Lowton 7
Ward 8
Mee 8 MOM
Long 7
Gud 6 (Maybe should have been hooked today for the loanee lad)
Cork 7
Westwood 7 (Tidy, when not being obstructed)
Hendrick 6
Lennon 6
Barnes 7 (point extra for a good old fashioned centre forwards goal)

Disappointing but stick with them, we deserve a bit more luck than this. Watched it on a stream with Matt Holland as co-commentator, who was bang on all afternoon with his comments.

Kept things moving but a lot of passes went astray but he is a championship midfielder just like Hendrick.

Pope 7 A worldie of a save 2nd half, not sure if it was him or Mee in the first either as that looked a great save too. EDIT see Mee
Lowton 7 a superb cross for the Barnes sitter
Long 7 did well
Mee 8 solid, although distribution was off EDIT - what a block off Tadic first hslf, Pope was beaten. Saved a goal.
Ward 6 ok first game back
JBG 7 went back time and time again. A beauty of a delivery first half, then resorted to a few short corners and wayward crosses. Decent scoring chance again coming in at that far post
Westwood 7 did ok, kept things ticking
Cork 7 as above
Lennon 5 extremely quiet I thought, didn't offer much
Hendrick 5 was ok whilst out of possession, but looks lost in the final 3rd, even worse in the 18 yard box
Barnes 6 did ok, poachers finish, but limitations show at this level

Thought Mr Dyche got it wrong from the off today, both personel and tactical, we were very sluggish with the ball, and our main bit off pressure led to all our shots on target in that 1 move. We Rarely troubled their GK either side of the goal.
Thought a point was a fair result as Pope certainly was the busier of the 2 GK.
The lack of subs were bizaar although movement was happening just before we scored so maybe it was a stick with what we have move.

I keep saying ( hoping ) it will get better, but it hasn't really.
Maybe some underdog cup football might do the trick, we need a spark.
We are crawling to 40 points and May, the season is certainly ending with a whimper preformance wise, very un Dyche like.

Pope - 8 one top drawer save

Lowton - 7 decent

Long - 9 Two superb tackles that stopped saints getting through one on one.

Mee - 8 superb clearance with his curly boots in the first half

Ward - 7 looked like he hadn't been away

Cork - 6

Westwood - 6

Gudmundsson - 6 has to bury that header early on but he totally misjudged it

Lennon - 5 lovely cross for the goal

Hendrick - 5 looks unsurprisingly short of confidence and will again be the focus of people's frustrations but, whilst he wasn't great, he has so few options when Barnes is all he has to link up with, he ends up running into trouble

Barnes - 4 awful, despite his goal, and guilty of playing some really poor passes in good postions that prevented us getting shots away.

An instantly forgettable game, were it not for the controversy at the end. Neither side was great although we were marginally less bad and should really be celebrating a win despite a crap performance.

Decent marks for the defence, especially Kevin Long who was mom by some distance. Going forward though it was pretty junk.

Very poor refereeing has stolen two points from us at the death but we should have been putting ourselves well clear before then so his ineptitude can't affect the result. No subs is inexplicable given how poor the front few were. We're safe and should be playing with freedom, not limping over the line.

That's exactly what didn't happen - his passes didn't go astray.

Don't understand what you mean by sneeky getting back at you. No idea what you are on about, I just don't understand your rating of Westwood today who I thought was our best player.

Poor game lacking in excitement and atmospherre. Turf Moor is fast becoming A soulless stadium with the ambience of a graveyard. Bobby Madley was poor constantly stopping game and positioning hence equaliser.
Pope 7- Should be considered England material. As good as any fit English keeper on form.
Lowton 7- did well against Redmond sometimes didn't support the winger though
Long 6- could have dealt with the cross better for goal
Mee 7- solid
Ward 7- played well and got forward when possible.
Cork 6- not as dominant as early season form
Westwood 6- tidy and kept the regimental shape.
Hendrick 4- not doing anything to suggest he fits in to the number 10 role. Plays ok once every 6 games.
Gudmondson 7- may be he could play in the roaming number 10 role.
Lennon 6- a threat at times but starved with service and defensive formation.
Barnes 6- handful as usually is and could have had a penalty.

Pope -8 - not much to do but he did it very well
Lowton - 7 very little threat from Southampton down the wings
Mee 7 - as usual, very strong
Long -7 - good game today, one particularly vital block
Ward - 7 - Nice return and good link with our wingers
Lennon - 5 - flattered to deceive
Westwood - 7 - did so much good work in midfield
Cork 8 - mom - thought he was very good both defensively and going forward
JBG - 5 - disappointing today
Hendrick - 5 - looks like he has run out of confidence
Barnes - 7 - thought he held the ball up well and he showed immense desire to score that goal

Boring game, but we were unlucky, that said it will happen if you park the bus at 1-0.

Maybe everyone on the bench wasn't 100% fit and he didn't want to risk them, the bench had some dodgy characters on it today all back from knocks

Pope 7 Decent save poor kicking will never play for England if he does not work on his kicking
Lowton 7
Mee 7 a poor back pass but saved the day after his poor ball to Pope.
Long 7
Ward 8 Played well and got forward
Lennon 5 Looked off the pace and lightweight
Westwood 7 Steady looked a better player than Cork.
Cork 6 Looks tired and sluggish you can see he misses Defour.
JBG 5 Offered nothing and poor dead balls.
Hendrick 6 Got a assist of sorts and at times showed good movment but was poor on the ball
Barnes 5 Goal aside he was poor held the ball up once but his antics did not wash today with the wall ref.

Very poor game lacking quality and in truth it looked like two cloggers just sparring. The sum of parts is better with Dyche but today our side lacked any creativity or style. We are going longer and stronger no matter who we play.

We look lost and just bung it forward and in truth we now look like the side last year. Yes injuries have hampered us but it a squad game and some of the squad players either have not played or been given a go.

But having said that if the wall had not got in the way and we won 1-0 we would not be moaning so can not have it all our own way.

But unlucky in the end after a game that wasn't a classic.

Pope - 7 - one good save but otherwise not massively involved.

Lowton - 7 - very solid defensively although not the forward influence he can be.

Ward - 6 - again solid defensively but perhaps a little rusty in possession and attack. Good to have him back though.

Long - 7 - solid enough give or take one or two errors, and his distribution does hamper us at times.

Mee - 8 - comfortable throughout.

Cork - 7 - very involved and screened the back 4 effectively. Neat enough on the ball but caught once or twice and we probably needed more subtlety in the centre of the park at times to play through the units.

Westwood - 7 - grew into the game as it went on after a pretty anonymous first half hour. No coincidence we played much more constructive football in the second half once he began to become a real influence.

Hendrick- 6 - should have sorted his feet out once or possibly twice in and around the box but other than that solid in possession and as influential out of it as we've come to expect. When we use the bsll better and get more men into the attack he obviously looks better.

Lennon - 6 - an excellent cross for the goal, although they was the only time the theory of him on the left worked all day, but he kept on working hard.

Gudmundson - 7 - worked hard enough and some bright moments, including for the goal, although he was a bit wasteful on a few occasions around the box.

Barnes - 6 - has a really poor first half, only partially excused by some ordinary balls into him, and might have been hooked for Vokes, but got better after thr break and showed his determination for the goal.

Two pretty well matched, well organised teams cancelled them out for long periods of the game, and we (like Southampton) lacked a bit of confidence and quality at times to play through the opposition during a turgid second half. The second half was much better and without creating lots, we edged it and looked good value until a really unlucky break.

Real pity - a one nil win dogged out would have really helped restore a bit of confidence and Madeley appeared to be in a really odd/poor position - it's probably a refereeing error of a different sort that has gone against us.

But nothing too disastrous and we'll get a break sooner or later.

Pope -7 - Two very good saves, nothing he could do about the goal
Lowton - 6 did ok against the best player on the park
Mee 7 - Solid distribution not the greatest and no idea why he takes the free kicks
Long -7 - Sound couple of decent blocks
Ward - 7 - Played well got forward very well
Lennon - 5 - apart from the cross for the goal, hardly got a look in
Westwood - 6 - solid if unspectacular
Cork 7- Played well linked midfield and attack when going forward
JBG - 6 - Got a lot of the ball but in open play didn't really do a lot with it, missed a good header in the first half, dead ball delivery very predictable
Hendrick - 5 - three good chances, credit for being the position, but didn't look like he would score
Barnes - 6 - plays on his own up front, doesn't get a lot of support or service but still manages to hold up play and win the free kicks to get us up the pitch

A distinctively average performance, the first half was painful, the second half marginally better. No tempo at all to the game, the first half was like a pre season friendly, three shots on target, we played like a team that appears to be struggling, two holding midfielders for a home game against a team in the bottom three. Played like we were happy with a point, as did Southampton, should have just had a chat before the start of the game and saved us all the trouble.

Lowton 7 - solid enough - got forward well
Long 7 - it looking very impressive
Mee 8 - led well
Ward 8 - we've really missed him

Westwood 8 mom - thought he played very well today
Cork 7 - getting back to the player of earlier in the season
Lennon 7 - quiet at times but some great moments too - super cross for the goal
Hendrick 5 - worked really ahrd off the ball and got into some great positions but on the ball his decision making is awful at them moment - needs a rest
Barnes 7 - gutsy finish and made a real nuisance of himself but needs to be offering more goal threat

Subs?? I bloody wish!!!!

SOMETIMES Barnes as a lone striker works and SOMETIMES it doesn't. (Today!!!) So why persevere and persevere with it, especially with a ref who really doesn't appreciate his antics, even when he IS being fouled! We were very ordinary to say the least over the entire game and players who I really like and rate like JBG I have to admit were pretty woeful. So why not change it. SD was unbelievably stubborn today and subs should have been on before AND after we scored to try to put away a game against a team who were clearly shaky at the back and needed putting away! We ALMOST got away with it, but in the the end an appalling piece of refereeing by a generally appalling referee allowed Southampton to get what their overall possession probably merited, but SD should have a long hard look at his tactics and lack of decisiveness in making a change! (Sorry SD, I love you really!)

No quality in the game. We were the best defender they had simply by playing Lennon and JBG on the wrong wings. We made Lennon look like a school kid with one trick. The Southampton right back was woeful as well, such a shame Sean bottled it after we scored and decided to stick rather than twist. We won't have an easier chance than this to win again this season and we blew it... I say we, I mean Sean. He was going to make a change at nil nil because something clearly wasn't impressing him. Just because we scored doesn't mean we're suddenly playing well. The change should have been made and we should have gone for a second goal. Not often i criticise the manager but their equaliser is 100% on him today.
