Jordan Pickford
Hold my hands up. Never rated him. He was pheonomenal today. But for him it could have been 5 or 6.

Terrible starting position for Ash's goal. Not that I'm arsed.
Re: Jordan Pickford
Fantastic shot stopper, doesn't command his penalty box like Pope though.

He'll be on the plane.
For me Butland, Pickford, Pope. If Hart is anywhere near Southgate needs his head seeing to.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Potential to be world class, but he has errors in him. His distribution is magnificent as his shot stopping, decision making and command of area though seem poor.
A mixture of Pope’s penalty area dominance and Pickford’s kicking and you have a De Gea/Neuer level goalkeeper. I guess that’s why they play for Wverton and Burnley!

Made some superb reaction saves but also made some basic errors with regards to positioning. Hell learn no doubt.

How can anyone blame him for Barnes goal?
Couldnt see Woods goal clearly enough to comment from the cfs.
His save from Barnes header was top class.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Poor starting position and didn't come out to close the shooting angle. Gave Barnes the whole goal to aim at. Defending was awful but so was the goalkeeping.
Re: Jordan Pickford
For Barnes's goal you need to question whether he should have come out or not. He didn't and we scored. Later with a similar chance he came out and smothered Barnes's effort.
I don't blame him for the second goal. His defence, notably Williams, was at fault.
The save from Barnes's header was good but I would expect a save there.

Re: Jordan Pickford
According to Jamie Redknapp on Sky.
He went back from the edge of his area to his goal line and when Ash hit the ball it was in the 6yd box. He showed Ederson for City last week, in a similar position, and he came out and cleared.
For the second he said he allowed himself to get physical with Ward giving himself no chance of getting to the cross from the corner. They also criticised Williams for pointing out Wood was free but not doing enough about it.

Re: Jordan Pickford
I think this is an often overlooked area of Ward's play that we have missed whilst he has been out of the team. He is excellent at blocking their keeper without ever - I don't think - being penalised by the referee. No surprise for me that we have scored from a corner now that he is back.piston broke wrote: For the second he said he allowed himself to get physical with Ward giving himself no chance of getting to the cross from the corner. He moved from edge of area (good position) back into goal (poor position)
Comparison with Ederson who advanced rather than retreating against Arsenal in similar situation.
The Sky team (Henry and Redknapp blamed him)
*As mentioned eaier by piston broke

Re: Jordan Pickford
Poor positioning for the first goal and shocking goalkeeping for the second. Made two very smart saves but ones that I would expect any keeper to make at this level.

For second goal he was so focused on Ward he forgot about the basics of goalkeeping, but Williams failed to mark Wood properly.

Makes saves look good, and most of them today were routine.
Pope makes all those, and probably conceeds 1 at best if in Evertons goal...

Re: Jordan Pickford
All goalkeepers at this level make great saves. For me, the best keepers are the ones who rarely make mistakes. Pickford appears to have technical difficiencies and makes too many errors.
I think Heaton is still the best of the lot but I can’t see him playing enough football between now and the end of the season to make the World Cup squad.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Pope's fingertip save last week against Southampton was at least as good, if not better, than Pickford's save from Barnes today. Pickford looks like a great if 'showy' shot stopper but has poor command of his goal area. I wish Pope had his ability when it comes to ball distribution though!

Re: Jordan Pickford
I think it speaks volumes, when, IMO, he was their best player.
He kept the score lower than it perhaps should have been. 3 or 4-1 I don't think would have been too OTT.

Made some good saves but in the final analysis he was at fault for both our goals.
Re: Jordan Pickford
The most agile of all the keepers. However, positioning often demands that agility to its max, rather than a more simple save.
Heaton is best at positioning.
Pope is good at positioning, great on crosses and his length reaches the spots even the agile can't make.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Couldn't understand the praise he got for the save from Ben Mee.
He pushed it back into the danger area, Wood could have scored, when it was easier to flick it over the bar.

It's the modern way for goalkeepers to make average saves look like wonder saves,l.
