Tactics today

Post by frankel » Sat Mar 03, 2018 5:11 pm

After last week's thread slating SD and his tactics, what do we all think of today's changes?

Did you read the OP’s post?

I was pleased to see Wood on at HT.

Ha ha, not being negative at all - just want to know what the boo boys make of that after the drivel posted by them last week.
And it's incredible how the written word can be misinterpreted as I'm 100 % behind our boss Spike.

I hope it's the last time we see Hendrick playing out of position, though I thought he played quite well. The game was crying out for us to go for two proper strikers up front. Long may that continue. Also, Tarky for England, why not?

What 90% of people with eyes have been saying for 10 games...
Hendrick is no number 10, Barnes can't do it in his own.
Start on the front foot.
Take the game to the opposition

Thought he brought Wood on 45 mins late but on the positive made a change 20 mins earlier than he usually does which allowed us to get back in the game and deservedly win it

Only one substitution- Dyche out.
TH was great on Sky said if De Bruyne had made the pass Lowton did for the first goal today it would be on playback all weekend it was such a fantastic pass. Also praised Tarks for not lumping the ball into the stands instead of beating his man and laying off to Lowton.

I was surprised and pleased at the half-time change of Wood on for Hendrick. A move we don't often see from Dyche, so hopefully it's all part of him learning as a manager. We all saw it and it happened - and we then played well in the second half and won the game. So for me that was one of the standout tactical decisions.

I was pleased that he made the change at HT. It had to be done though it could have been done even earlier, in all honesty. I thought the setup worked well today - helped that Lennon and Gudmundsson were on form and we were getting plenty of crosses into the box.

Spot on and all credit to Dyche. Sure the usual series moaners will acknowledge it as well when they eventually remember their login details!

The first and best change was both widemen playing on their stronger side.
That was the reason for the quality and quantity of crosses.
Hendrick played far better than some posters would have you believe but the change to a striker at HT was immense in turning the game around.
They seemed from the kickoff to have a more attacking state of mind. That would normally come from the manager.
IMHO SDs best day as a PL manager. Everything he tried worked and long may it continue.

The tactics were the same as last week.
The difference was Wood is a better target man than Ash, and Ash is a better no10 than Jeff Hendrick.
The trouble they created forced Everton to play narrower, providing more space for JBG and Lennon to work in.

Tactics had nothing to do with it. Although our attitude was very much on the front foot compared to recent performances.
I agree that Jeff Hendrick probably played his best game as a no10 today, BUT was quite rightly subbed. The team that finished will probably see out the rest of the season, barring injury.

Wasn't the ht change from 4411 to 442 a change of tactics Colburn_Claret?

But because we were on the front foot from kickoff Hendrick played much closer to Ash than normal.
Which is why the substitution was no big surprise, with hindsight.

We played quite well over 90 minutes and this is not meant as a major. criticism of an individual but by Christ we miss Defour. IMO any half decent professional centre mid could do what Westwood does,, far far far too safe and constantly passing on responsibility to somebody else.

Thought Westwood was superb today and he has bounced back brilliantly after being hauled off at Newcastle when he struggled

Westwood was superb today, he keeps us ticking over. Different opinions is what makes the game what it is.

It certainly does. I think we really miss Defours 10 yard travel with the ball. Although I think changing Hendrick for Wood will help Westwood because those around him can be more direct once he plays a simple 5 yard pass to them.

I would have taken Tarks off at half time - below par first half. Missread situations that could have resulted in a couple of Everton goals.

Just shows Sean Dyche knows his stuff.

Tarks improved massively especially after his key contribution to our first.

Would you really have subbed a centre half at the break??

Thought Westwood was excellent again today.

Great post JohnMac.
I started the thread to see what our pond-life posters would say after slating SD last week but none have surfaced ...
The game is about different opinions as you say and thankfully for us we have the best boss in the Prem to make those calls that sees flying high

I hope uses the same 'tactics' at whu next week, I.e. starting with Wood and Barnes to improve the balance of the team.

What is your point? Thought your OP was a genuine question, but it seems you just want to bash any fans whom have the audacity to question SD.

Would of made of a lot more sense if SD had played exactly the same tactics. But guess what he didn't.

Firstly, he played Lennon on the right - HUGE difference - he was excellent on his natural side as oppose to being on the left.

Secondly, he made a positive and ultimately match winning substitution early in the game. Didn't last week when it was crying out for a change - HUGE difference.

I assume you are a happy clapper that does not think fans should question their teams/managers tactics.

Sat on his hands last week whilst we toiled and looked largely toothless. Then today changes things when personally I'd probably have left it, as we were actually losing, but playing really well. He's a proper card is our Sean!! But he gets it right more than he gets it wrong!
