Their goal....
....For me, a good example of why we should leave somebody up when the opponent has a corner. We won possession from their corner but then JBG had no options to pass to and promptly lost the ball which then resulted in them scoring.

Not to mention the threat someone like Lennon would pose

JBG had the option of a simple pass to Aaron Lennon - you can choose whether the pass was poor or Lennon was poor but it was that pass failing to reach its target that cost us.StuffyClaret wrote:....For me, a good example of why we should leave somebody up when the opponent has a corner. A mixture of the two, I think.ClaretTony wrote:JBG had the option of a simple pass to Aaron Lennon - you can choose whether the pass was poor or Lennon was poor but it was that pass failing to reach its target that cost us.

Lennon only became an option as we tried to move out. A player left up front would have given JBG an immediate option
Re: Their goal....
I screamed this at 2-1 with 5 to play. Leave lennon on half way occupies 2 defenders. However they ambled up to cause a threat.
Never mind we got the victory, but it seemed we invited 2 extra bodies than needed into a goal scoring position.
Not like Lennon adds much defensive wise.
Roll on West Ham now, I'm buzzing.
A Burnley win, booze and food is my ideal Saturday night.

Dyche has never left anyone up at corners

I agree, but I understand that the theory is that we want as much congestion in our box as possible to minimise their movement and reduce the amount of space.MACCA wrote:I screamed this at 2-1 with 5 to play. Leave lennon on half way occupies 2 defenders. However they ambled up to cause a threat.

.
I've always felt however that leaving a tricky pacey player on the half way line is the better option so we have an out-ball and a chance to catch them on the break.

I thought we were sloppy all round for their goal, not like us at all.

I blame both of them and marked them down 1 point accordingly.
Also think Tarks could have done better when the cross came in.
Re: Their goal....
Hardly any manager does as it very rarely makes any difference, if at all.MDWat wrote:Dyche has never left anyone up at corners
If it did you'd be seeing a lot more sides with a player on the half way line.
Many teams are so quick they can easily break in numbers from the edge of their own area. Remember our goal against Palace last season at home?

Man City have everyone back to defend corners. I’m not sure why people are so obsessed with this idea.

It wasn't a corner either was it? Wasn't it a free kick taken by Sigurdsson?StuffyClaret wrote:Lennon only became an option as we tried to move out. A player left up front would have given JBG an immediate option

If it was a corner, I don't understand the obsession either. Virtually all teams pull everyone back. They are there to be defended.Rileybobs wrote:Man City have everyone back to defend corners. I’m not sure why people are so obsessed with this idea.

Re: Their goal....
Because its a tactic that we could clearly use to our advantage.
One forward leaves keeper back, 2 to mark our 1 and 1 taking corner. Meaning we can pose a threat on the break and outnumber them 10 to 7 in the box. Its nothard to fathom really.

Re: Their goal....
Sometimes though it just needs a big boot up the field. It may result in loss of possession but buys a bit of time for the defence to get sorted. You could tell what was very likely to happen when JBG passed to a player who was marked and likely to be crowded out.

Re: Their goal....
Agree was a silly pass to make should have booted it down field as there was nothing on. Lennon had too many men around him. Hendrick also let his man go who put the cross in after we lost the ball which was poor.

Re: Their goal....
JBG mistake IMHO. Poor pass to Lennon. He should have cleared upfield and allowed the team to reshape and forced Everton back. The mistake left all their players in attacking positions and ultimately the goal which was pretty tidy.

Re: Their goal....
I thought Lennon was pushed off the ball too easily. Don't think there was much wrong with Gudmundsson's pass but I'd have to see it again.
