Things you don't see in football anymore
Re: Things you don't see in football anymore
Going to the station and catching a crappy intercity train at an affordable price full of football fans going to different games all over the place.
It's not the train itself but the feeling of the train and going somewhere you've never been. The first bit of get carter (the real one) always rreminds me of that.

Walsall away was another where BFC went over the pitch and took a block in the stand to the right of the away end around that time.Braindead wrote:The Wigan one was in 99 i think, thousands turned up at the newly opened ground and the stand to the left of the Burnley fans was empty as it didn't have the required safety certificate. The police started to put the excess Clarets in the empty stand but forgetting to put any stewards in there, cue loads of lads legging through the empty stand and straight into the Wigan fans behind the other goal

The game was all ticket for away fans. Didn't have tickets but went with my scouse mate from work. In a rather large police escort from Wigan town centre I bumped into a lad I knew who also didn't have a ticket for the away end. So we all went to the ticket office to ask for 3 for the away end "sold out love". 3 for the home end "main stand ok love?" yes near the away end please!!Braindead wrote:The Wigan one was in 99 i think, thousands turned up at the newly opened ground and the stand to the left of the Burnley fans was empty as it didn't have the required safety certificate. Didn't realise the lad I knew was "known" to the locals through England games and once in the ground we had been clocked!! We went and sat on row A not to give us selves away! I was delegated to speak to the stewards to let them know we'd bought tickets for the wrong stand.
No problem I thought until she asked for proof of address, I noticed hoards of pie eaters hurtling down the seats behind us. Tactfully I informed the steward I didn't have my gas bill on me whilst shoving her out of the way whilst about 5 Clarets ran into the away end.
Mayhem then followed! Sat in 3 stands that game, that must be some record.
Before the game the locals had been telling us to turn left out of the away end afterwards , we turned right but could hear the carnage.

Just watched the you tube clip of Burnley v Wrexham 1993 posted on another thread.
You don't see the JH emptying on to the JM with 5 minutes left to get a quick dart anymore.
I suppose back then this was how you got away with leaving early without been told off?
