All we need... Just hope it's not 'all about him"
Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
I'd love to know in this thread if there is ever a referee we're happy with? Every week it's announced and people seem disgruntled. Anyone got a preferred ref' who they'd have every week if they could?

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Some outstanding referees in the Premier League. They might not always have good games but there are a number I would never be concerned at refereeing our games although, as was seen recently with Bobby Madley, there were some nit picking because they thought he'd favoured a big club by playing a few seconds too long.whiffa wrote:I'd love to know in this thread if there is ever a referee we're happy with? For me, Lee Mason doesn't fit into that group. I don't like him at all as a referee.

Jones
Swarbrick
Mariner
Pawson
Kavanagh
Oliver
Are IMO the better of the options, in about that order too IMO at the moment, raking into account their last few times reffing us.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Definitely Atkinson, Marriner & Oliver but I think Taylor is hugely improved and I don't have problems generally with Kavanagh, and Dean. For some reason we never get Swarbrick, he's only ever refereed us once and that was at Barnsley in 2013/14 season.MACCA wrote:Atkinson

Good shout regarding Taylor, he slipped my mind, used to love Dean, maybe the Wembley and Ewood wins, but not been too impressed with him recently.ClaretTony wrote:Definitely Atkinson, Marriner & Oliver but I think Taylor is hugely improved and I don't have problems generally with Kavanagh, and Dean. Is Swarbrick not a local lad? Perhaps he's near the bottom of the list of picks to referee us.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
I can't work it out to be honest. He's from Preston so that shouldn't make a difference. He clearly has no affiliation to us or he wouldn't have been allowed to ref that game at Barnsley and he was fourth official last week (Southampton game I think).MACCA wrote:Is Swarbrick not a local lad? Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Nope me neither, always seems to have quiet games, and never in the spotlight for controversial decisions etc.ClaretTony wrote:I can't work it out to be honest. We're Possibly regarded as a rival to Preston, so he's left out of our fixtures where possible just for ease sake, especially if he has said he has an affiliation with Preston.
It's not like there's a shortage of referees around, so keeping him away isn't a task.
I know many websites list Blackburn and Preston as our main rivals , so that's possibly in the FA/select committees minds.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Mason did referee our 2-0 home win against Liverpool.
Also correctly sent off Fernandinho at the Eithad.
Both last season but he was fine in both games.
Was also fine against Tottenham at Wembley this season.

Lee Mason must rank amongst the worst PL refs in history.
In fact Lee Mason must rank amongst the worst refs in history.

Dreadful referee. Really the FA don't like us do they.
Wonder if Dyche will speak to him this time. He didn't after the Arsenal game. At least not on the pitch anyway.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
I thought in his early career he was listed as Great Harwood. Although it doesn't stop them giving us Mason, still listed as Bolton but after the arsenal game some on here were saying he now resides in Darwen.ClaretTony wrote:I can't work it out to be honest. Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
It doesn't matter where a referee lives, all down to any club he has an allegiance to. For example: Jon Moss lives in Leeds but the two clubs he can't referee are Sunderland and Millwall. He's from Sunderland and he's played for both of them at youth level.piston broke wrote:I thought in his early career he was listed as Great Harwood. he has a chance for redemption then
Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Plenty of good ones as in the posts above and I would probably put Jones at the top of the pile. Mason is about as bad as it gets. How is he still doing the PL. A good chance he will ruin the game.

Nah they weren't suggesting he lived in Darwen, just that he was a useless barsteward.piston broke wrote:I thought in his early career he was listed as Great Harwood. Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
How do they go about the refs and the 'allegiance' thing? I can understand it with Jon Moss as he was actually at both Sunderland and Millwall - but do they just ask you - who do you support?
Would I, for example, not be allowed to ref a game involving Blackburn as a Burnley fan?
What if you are reffing a game that might affect your club even if they weren't directly involved - e.g. a last game of the season affair?????

This is a decent list. I just like common sense referees who aren't quick to make a dramatic decision, especially if it's in the box.MACCA wrote:Atkinson

I remember Zabaleta going down in the area in the last minute when we were beating City 1-0. Marriner just shook his head and played on. Mason or Madley would have had orgasms.

Lee Mason is down there with Kevin Lynch and Darren Deadman, as producing the worst refereeing performance I have witnessed.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
The year Leicester won the league, they took Kevin Friend off a Spurs game towards the end of the season as they were the nearest challengers to Leicester, and he is a Leicester fan.Foulthrow wrote:How do they go about the refs and the 'allegiance' thing? You are meant to state any affiliation good or bad towards any team, although I presume if you've worked for a club at some point, the powers that be would automatically remove you from being able to officiate them.

Re: Referee confirmed for West Ham game
Even before his impression of N'golo Kante in the Southampton match I have always disliked Maddely the most. As bad as some of PL refs are they are a thousand times better than some of those I have encountered in the Burnley Sunday League over the years
