Oooooooooooh David Eyres ooooooooooooooooh David Eyres

After a pretty dire 0-0 at Elm Park, went out in London with non-Burnley fans and we were all belting this one out whenever the original song came on.

Wow! That brought it all flooding back!!!! A pitch with some of my favourite Burnley players ever. Eyres, Deary, Farrell and Super Johnny Francis (possibly No.1). THANKS FOR THAT LINK, Bin Ont Turf.

David Eyres in the foundation on Saturday.

Veronica - "what's your most memorable dressing room story?
Eyres - "John Gayle, do you remember him?"

Veronica - "what's your most embarrassing moment in football?"
Eyres - "getting in the shower next to John Gayle!!"

A mate of mine was his apprentice at Preston.
He said he was great. Gave him £100 at Christmas and on his birthday.
Kurt Nogan gave his apprentice a fiver.

My all-time favourite Burnley player. Majestic, graceful and quite literally, beautiful on the eye. His jinking runs had me off my seat several times every game. He lit up football matches with his awesome left-peg and made me truly fall in love with Burnley FC. Hero!!

He's also another one of those players who didn't come in to the professionnel game until quite late. Twenty five I think.

John Francis v Gary Briggs in a footrace .... that's what you'd call one sided !! A young Uriah Rennie running the line in front of the Bob Lord in the 2nd half....

Did it absolutely lash it down all game? Stood on the open end? If so, that was a dire game!!

If my memory serves me well I seem to recall watching David Eyres playing in goal at the Turf against Bournemouth I think it was.

Can't remember the circumstances that brought this about but I think I am right

Francis, Russel, Heath & Eyres that's one hell of a forward line.

This has been bothering me for a while, who was the guy that we signed on the same day as Heath, I seem to remember the first game was away at Stockport and we heard about the signings on the way there. Memory could be playing tricks on me

I have recollections of him saving a penalty? Or at least the taker missing it. Think it finished 1-1.

I wasn't in a car crash with me dad the night of the Bournemouth game. Eyres faced a pen at the Cricket Field End, but if my memory serves me right, it hit the post.

Yes I think he did save a penalty or the taker missed it

Was it the norm for us to shoot towards the CFS 2nd half back then? If so I am assuming we changed 'preference' when the new stands were built?

Yes I think so. Seem to remember chanting "ooh ahh Beresford" in my multi-coloured replica keepers shirt from the beehole as the players came out for the 2nd half.

I felt sorry for his mother she must have been really embarrassed.

Did Kevin Russell leave before the end of the 1993-1994 season? I’m sure he wasn’t involved in the play-offs. Or maybe he was injured?

Transferred to Bournemouth around February time.

I could be wrong but I seem to recall it was due to family reasons

Brought back some great memories watching that. Amusing seeing how little things have changed since then. At the full time whistle the players are down the tunnel within seconds!

As for Eyresey, he was an absolute gem of a player. So skillful and offered so much going forward. Absolutely gutted when we sold him.

Did Andy Farrell save a penalty for us? Seem to remember him going in goal one game (meaning he had worn every shirt number 1-11)
