If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
With Crystal Palace, just for guiding them to safety then surely SD has got to get it this season for what he's done with us.
A far greater achievement than something many managers do each season.

Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
I think were it not for Pep Guardiola, Sean would win hands down. City have run away with the league and as a result Pep will win PL Manager of the Year.

Probably because he turned round a club that looked absolutely certain to go down, his record there that season was outstanding, and certainly because the other managers voted for him.Spijed wrote:But how on earth did Pulis win it?

Guardiola for sure. He has changed the style of a football team and won the prem by a distance.

And where is Pulls now?
Winning that award would only raise SDs already high standing and bring his departure nearer.
Pep can have it for me but we'll know who deserved it.

Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
Has to be Guardiola, not only has he team won the league by some margin (Barring an epic crash), but they are on for potentially record breaking numbers (points and goals) and have made every other team in the "big 6" look ordinary / scared / poor in comparison at least once.
Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
I'm still puzzled as to why Pulis won it.
Surely it should ALWAYS go to the winning manager, Pep in this case. However, the achievements of Pulis are no greater than that of SD, and if he can win it then so can SD.
If someone took over West Brom from Pardew and managed to save them, would that make them the manager of the year?

Pulis did an incredible rescue operation at Palace from them seemingly looking dead. He impressed the other managers and won it. Sean Dyche didn't even get Championship manager of the year when we won it.Spijed wrote:I'm still puzzled as to why Pulis won it.

Forgotten they'd awarded that to a manager that didn't even get promoted!ClaretTony wrote:Sean Dyche didn't even get Championship manager of the year when we won it.

They were just three points behind the team in 17th with 26 games to go when he was appointed Palace manager, hardly dead.ClaretTony wrote:Pulis did an incredible rescue operation at Palace from them seemingly looking dead. Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
It's not as though he scraped keeping them up, he took them from a team which had won once all season to finishing 11th, and also performed an amazing turnaround to stop Liverpool from winning the title.Tall Paul wrote:They were just three points behind the team in 17th with 26 games to go when he was appointed Palace manager, hardly dead.
That deserves it in itself.

I didn't say he didn't deserve it, I said that Palace were hardly dead when he took over.UpTheBeehole wrote:It's not as though he scraped keeping them up, he took them from a team which had won once all season to finishing 11th, and also performed an amazing turnaround to stop Liverpool from winning the title.

Also, before he was appointed they'd won two games, not one, and they didn't stop Liverpool winning the title, even if Liverpool had won that game they'd have still finished second.
One out of three isn't bad I suppose.

Don't know where you got your 'won 2 games' from. Pulis was appointed 23/11/13, the day they won their second game.

Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
Pep will win it for sure. What he has done with a limited budget is remarkable. No other manger on earth could get even close to winning the league with a budget and a squad of players like he has a city. If it wasn’t for him city would’ve been relegation certainties for sure.
If you couldn’t tell I am being sarcastic. All acalades will go to the big clubs and the media darlings. Dyche nor any Burnley player has won manger/Player of the month this season yet we sit in 7th. What does that tell you.

25/11/2013The 55-year-old was on Monday unveiled as the Eagles' new manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal, replacing Ian Holloway who resigned from the job a month ago.

I hope they give it to the manager of the team who finishes third. That's how it works isn't it?

So you're going to credit him with a win even though he didn't actually take charge of the team for that game?
Odd.
i'll accept my dates are incorrect.

Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
OK, I suppose technically they'd only won one when he was appointed, but the caretaker manager was in charge for that game so Pulis had nothing to do with it.UpTheBeehole wrote:They'd lost 10 out of 12 league games.

They'd only lost 9 though, not 10 and if you're counting that win as his first game it was 9 out of 11.

Three points from safety with 26 games to go is far from dead.
Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
So your own link says that he didn't take charge until after they'd won 2 games.Caretaker manager Keith Millen remained in charge for Saturday's 1-0 victory at Hull, with Pulis's first game coming against Norwich next weekend.

Table the day before he took over. Nowhere near what you what call a perilous position with so many games left to play. Win a couple in the PL and you move up the table. Just look at Swansea this season.

Pulis did a good job at Palace, but they weren't exactly marooned at the bottom of the table.

Re: If Pulis got the PL manager of the year in 2014
Article from the timeTony Pulis has been named Premier League LMA Manager of the Year at a glittering end of season ceremony on Monday evening.
The Crystal Palace masterminded the club’s incredible escape from relegation after taking over when they only had four points in the Barclays Premier League. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers won the overall LMA Manager of the Year.
The LMA award is based on the resources available to each manager and is voted for by its members.
Palace, who were promoted last season via the play-offs, have an annual wage bill of £31m. Premier League champions Manchester City paid £233m a year in salaries in their last set of accounts.
Pulis guided Palace to an 11th placed finish in the Premier League and he will attend this evening’s dinner in London.

If that's the case then SD should win by a country mile.

5 points adrift after 11 games is a remarkable escape then
Should be nailed on for Hodgson to win it this year then, virtually the same position after 11 games, just 6 points adrift instead of 5.

It’ll be Chris Hughton, whether Brighton get relegated or not

If Huddersfield stay up Wagner absolutely deserves it.
Closely followed by Hughton, Dyche and Benitez. Howe has also overachieved again.
Winning the league in style with City is an achievement. But its all relative to resources and suchlike. Us finishing 7th would be far more impressive than City winning the league imo.
