As someone whose heavily critised Barnes in the past. I’m happy to admit I was wrong.
He’s been unplayable at times in the last few games and he looks to have something special going with Chris Wood.

Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
I wonder what the Brighton view on this is. £350,000 is a steal.
I seem to recall it was split, those that wanted him to stay, balanced by just as many that wanted him to go. I think Ash was upsetting the cart as well by letting it be known that he favoured the move.
4 years on and we have an outstanding player, who opposition fans and players hate, but would all love on their team.
Another 3 years of watching Ash bash the premier league. This day just keeps giving.

That strike against West Ham was stunning, not just the hit but the build up and positioning from Ashley that you can see from the goal cam. I know Hart has been getting grief but no keeper would have stopped that. He's been improving month on month since we signed him and this is another great bit of work by the club. I hope he's got a hefty pay increase thrown in as well as he deserves it.

Excellent news. Well done Ashley Barnes.
His combative spirit has never been in doubt, and I've always thought he was one of the very best controlling the ball on his chest. His goal on Saturday was up there - pity some of the praise he deserved was lost with the distraction of "some people are on the pitch..."
I assume Ashley has got a "bump" in pay. I hope we are now paying him enough to be able to subscribe for an Austrian passport.

Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
Last summer I would've been fine with him going and even earlier this season I think I've suggested we needed to upgrade on him this summer.
As it stands I'm glad he's staying because he's not shirking the challenge when presented to him.

Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
Excellent news but hope we are looking at Mee,Hendrick and Vokes who are OOC in 2019 as well as Ward Defour and JBG who I think are to 2019 but with an option from us to have them until ?2020.
And of course there is Scotty OOC soon

My favourite Burnley player for the last couple of seasons. Improving his control and skill with every game.
There are not many players in the Premier league who you would realistically swap him for.

As long as he smashes it into the back of the onion bag that'll do me,no points for style not in this game.Inchysince93 wrote:I love him. I cant recall a goal he's scored with the side of his foot, he just smashes, literally, everything.
Premier League defenders must hate playing against Ash heaven knows what International or European teams will make of him.
Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
I've always thought of him as a good player but was surprised that he overtook Sam Vokes as our first choice striker. I hope its not expecting too much but there are signs lately that he could become a high scoring player. He is fantastically tough and developing that knack of being in the right place at the right time by reading the game as well as he is playing it. A great acquisition to the future of the club and shows the club can compete in hanging on to our best players.

Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
From my perspective perhaps the most improved player at the club this season. He seems to have taken his game to a new level and perhaps alongside Wood we have a new "Irvine-Lochead" combination. Now wouldn't that be great
I know Pope and Tarks have had England call ups and could be considered as most improved but neither were regular first team players before this season.

Re: ARTICLE: New Turf Moor contract for Barnes
Start of the season, rumours around that Newcastle were to bid £8m for him. I thought to myself, (maybe even posted) make it £10m and I’ll think about it.
Now? Make it £20m and the answer is STILL no. Always liked Barnes, but LOVE him now. Almost irreplaceable. Hes absolutely totally got hold of this PL football by it’s throat, ragged it, and thrown it to the floor in disgust.

Fully deserved and it shows he wants to be a Claret. Yes, I know he'll be earning a lot of money but they all do compared to us. I'm pretty sure he could have got at least the same money -if not more- elsewhere.
Well done to the club for getting it sorted.
