VAR Again
Just ruled out a brilliant Son goal for Spurs.

And no amount of technology can speed up the time it takes to look at these type of decisions.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Just ruled out a brilliant Son goal for Spurs.

Re: VAR Again
Not good enough for the premier league next season but good enough for the world cup. Hmmm.
I hate VAR. The term, play to the whistle is basically gone now.

Re: VAR Again
it was clearly offside
Re: VAR Again
But HOW can it improve if those who look at the screen need time to analyse whether a player is offside or not?piston broke wrote:Just been authorised for the World Cup. There's no stopping it now.

No amount of technology can ever speed up the thought process of a person as was the case today with Son, for example.

Re: VAR Again
Afraid it’s the modern fashion to try to make football decision making as perfect as it can be.
Next step I suppose is to replace the ref and linesman completely

Re: VAR Again
The problem that can never be resolved with VAR, no matter how much technology improves:
What is classed as a penalty?
What is classed as handball?
What is classed as offside?
Until there are clear guidelines as to what the answer is in those situations then technology is useless.

I haven't seen today's incident but I would speed it up the NFL way.Spijed wrote:But HOW can it improve if those who look at the screen need time to analyse whether a player is offside or not?

There has to be conclusive proof the original decision was wrong.
If it's not conclusive from a couple of angles go with the ref.

Re: VAR Again
Perfection not possible in the short term at least.
Re: VAR Again
But it takes time to look at a couple of angles. It took them a while for the Son offside, and that'll kill the game in the long term as all momentum could be lost for the attacking side.piston broke wrote:I haven't seen today's incident but I would speed it up the NFL way.

A few hours of computer programming and it could all be judged by AI.Spijed wrote:But HOW can it improve if those who look at the screen need time to analyse whether a player is offside or not?

All the football/VAR calls are nothing compared with the challenges of setting up a car, never mind an HGV, to travel on the roads safely without a driver.
VAR will be good for football - so long as we don't let the "there was contact, so he was entitled to go down" brigade anywhere near the computer.
