Just ruled out a brilliant Son goal for Spurs.

And no amount of technology can speed up the time it takes to look at these type of decisions.

Just been authorised for the World Cup. There's no stopping it now.

I know you are not a fan but it will improve.

Not good enough for the premier league next season but good enough for the world cup. Hmmm.

I hate VAR. The term, play to the whistle is basically gone now.

See how it’s modified and settles down over time.

But HOW can it improve if those who look at the screen need time to analyse whether a player is offside or not?

No amount of technology can ever speed up the thought process of a person as was the case today with Son, for example.

Afraid it’s the modern fashion to try to make football decision making as perfect as it can be.

Next step I suppose is to replace the ref and linesman completely

The problem that can never be resolved with VAR, no matter how much technology improves:

What is classed as a penalty?
What is classed as handball?
What is classed as offside?

Until there are clear guidelines as to what the answer is in those situations then technology is useless.

I haven't seen today's incident but I would speed it up the NFL way.
There has to be conclusive proof the original decision was wrong.
If it's not conclusive from a couple of angles go with the ref.

Perfection not possible in the short term at least.

But it takes time to look at a couple of angles. It took them a while for the Son offside, and that'll kill the game in the long term as all momentum could be lost for the attacking side.

A few hours of computer programming and it could all be judged by AI.

All the football/VAR calls are nothing compared with the challenges of setting up a car, never mind an HGV, to travel on the roads safely without a driver.

VAR will be good for football - so long as we don't let the "there was contact, so he was entitled to go down" brigade anywhere near the computer. ;)
