James Maddison
Full disclosure - I've never actually seen him play but he's a young, English, goal-scoring midfielder who's pulling up trees in the Championship. Sounds like the perfect person to play the Hendrick number ten role properly. Sign him up.
Re: James Maddison
Not seen him play either but sounds like he's a very good player.
I'm sure there'll be plenty of interest come the summer. Wonder what fee Norwich will want in this crazy market, 20m?

I still want us to sign Jota who scored all those goals for Brentford a couple a season or two ago.

But this is a player that would improve our squad and probably not cost a fortune.
Birmingham are not a team doing well, so he’d be out of there in a flash I would imagine.

Re: James Maddison
Seen Maddison on tv a few times and he does look useful but how many pens do Norwich get?
He seems to bag a pen most weeks.

Yes, I am serious Of course, I don't know the lad so I don't know if he'd fit into the squad character-wise. However, he hasn't been as prolific for Birmingham - though they're a poor side this season. He'd be a great option to have though and maybe his stock isn't quite as high as when he had that excellent season for Brentford with 12 league goals in 21 appearances from an attacking midfield position.halfmanhalfbiscuit wrote:I’m unsure if you’re being serious with this?

Re: James Maddison
Maddison will more than likely be on his way in the summer.
I wouldn’t imagine him going to one of the bigger clubs but I’d hope he’s the sort of player we’re looking at. And likewise I’m sure we’d be interesting to him.
£20m no matter how ridiculous this sounds is probably right.

If they are asking that sort of money then maybe we could get much better value abroad? You'd imagine we could get a hell of a player from Spain or France for that sort of price, for example.halfmanhalfbiscuit wrote:Maddison will more than likely be on his way in the summer.

This is the type of player that could well be a very frugal acquisition
Fabulous season a couple of years ago. Gone to a club that’s not going well.
Could be a very good signing, that as I said may not be a first team marquee signing but would improve our squad.

Re: James Maddison
Class player in the position we need most. £20m would be around the fee he’d command - do it.
Re: James Maddison
Was chatting to a regular in my local the other week who's a big Norwich fan
and asked him who he thought their best player is and he immediately named Maddison.
From what he said about the players' qualities he sounds like the perfect fit for Burnley.
He also reckons he'll move on and up in the summer but reckons he'll go for closer to £30m.
Can't see us paying that sort of money even he was the perfect fit.

Re: James Maddison
Pretty sure he'll end up at a club with a bit more cash given how high profile his season has been, file with Sessegnon.
I'd think we'll be looking more at the under the radar Championship players who are having quality seasons such as Massimo Luongo who would be the perfect Marney replacement.
From the Championship I'd also suggest looking at another Aussie in Jackson Irvine, he'd be the right fit for a Dyche number 10. Hard working, strong, good in the air. Was on fire for Burton in front of goal last season and coming good at Hull now he's been moved to his favoured attacking midfield role.
Neither big names but both ready to step up and wouldn't be upset at waiting/working to earn their place IMO in the side.

There are 20m reasons not to sign him in that statement.SGr wrote:Class player in the position we need most. £20m would be around the fee he’d command - do it.
Re: James Maddison
Quality player. He’ll definitely move on in the summer.
Re: James Maddison
Won't cut it in this league I'm afraid you don't get the time and space he is atm.

On what grounds? Do you think that fee would in any way damage the club or somethingJohnMac wrote:There are 20m reasons not to sign him in that statement.

Re: James Maddison
Don't disagree with us potentially signing him. It's the £20m valuation, if he was 'that good' I'm sure he would have been snapped up and loaned out by a top 6 club. I think he has less than 15 career goals.SGr wrote:On what grounds? Do you think that fee would in any way damage the club or something
If we start overpaying for players the Premier money will be meaningless, let's open a bid at £8m and go from there
Re: James Maddison
Would rather we take a bit of a gamble on lads like this than sign has beens like Walters.
Re: James Maddison
I never said don’t make opening bids - I mean £8m would be ridiculous mind but players’ ability isn’t measured by “whether or not a top 6 club has snapped them up or not”JohnMac wrote:Don't disagree with us potentially signing him. How many players that we discuss have we "actually seen play"?pushpinpussy wrote:I've never actually seen him play

Players from other teams only come to Turf Moor once per season and only then if they are PL. Very few of us will go to Championship games, and certainly not at Norwich (for example).
Most discussions on here are based on what we see on televised games, (and mainly highlights), and the internet, so if we can only discuss players who we've actually seen play then it rules out the majority of players that we tend to speculate about.
I've never actually seen Messi play but I can form a judgement that he would be better than what we currently have.

Just out of interest is that his valuation via the media, or a figure you thought of?SGr wrote:I never said don’t make opening bids - I mean £8m would be ridiculous mind but players’ ability isn’t measured by “whether or not a top 6 club has snapped them up or not”
I don't know who decides these things and would have thought if he was that highly rated he would be on a lot of radars, similar to Sessegnon.

Re: James Maddison
I've been saying since about January that we should go all out to sign this kid in the summer. He looks the real deal to me and could be the missing link for us with regards to having an influential number 10. He's 21 and has the potential to get better and better. £20m might seem a lot but it's the current market, and lets not forget we've made a profit in the market this season. Also, if we brought him in I suspect Jeff could be allowed to leave and we'd get £15-20m for him in today's market no worries!
Re: James Maddison
Figure I’ve seen Norwich fans mention, and also thought of. Truth is we’d probably have a to chuck an add on or two in there as wellJohnMac wrote:Just out of interest is that his valuation via the media, or a figure you thought of?

He is on a lot of radars, by the way. The big clubs might not have put a bid in yet, but they’re always watching. Worth pointing out Sessegnon is 17 for the record.

Would be a major signing for a club like ours. Would love it!
£20m+ is a big ask, but we can afford it...surely?

Re: James Maddison
Brentford said he would only leave if a Premier League club came in with big money. They didn't even come in and he was sold to Birmingham for £600,000 where he's apparently been poor.IndigoLake wrote:I still want us to sign Jota who scored all those goals for Brentford a couple a season or two ago.

Would be a good signing. Hasnt quite done it at Birmingham. But they are a club in disarray. Plenty of players have the odd club that it doesnt work out at.
Would definitely be worth a gamble. Our other signings from Brentford havent fared too badly.

Strictly speaking though, he wouldn’t be a signing from Brentford

Jota is yesterday’s man and truly offers a lot less than JBG from the same position. Pointless.

Re: James Maddison
Mason Mount would be a good player to look at for the No 10 role, he is on loan at vitesse from Chelsea at the moment and doing really well, young with great potential.
Not much chance of first team football at Chelsea perhaps we could tempt him here.
