One of the lines were there to let Dave Thomas know when to cross the ball.

They keep tje hooligans chasing a leather ball in a confined space and prevent onlookers from joining in.

They used to paint "STOP!!" just over the touchline for when Steve Kindon charged down the wing. :D

Otherwise, he'd have crashed through the Bee Hole End wall. 8-)

As a former groundsman I can tell you these top football pitches are all wrongly marked - the lines are straight.

My football pitches (and markings for other sports) were correctly always crooked - most football pitches are.
