Dare to dream
After Rovers lost ground today, the Accy derby maybe, just maybe on.
Shrewsbury and Wigan both have games in hand. And it might not be just them they should worry about.
A look back to the last time we were at that level after the same number of games show its not over until its over...

Rovers in blue and white threw a 6 point cushion away that year... and have never been close since

Re: Dare to dream
Just seen Bristol Rovers finished the season Won 1, Drew 3, Lost 6! They didn’t even make the play offs.
And Wigan also finished poorly, W2, D2, L4.

Apologies for using Tom Hark but here goes...bfccrazy wrote:Will need a new song when they mess it up this time
You lost to Burnley
On the EFL Cup
You were top of the league
But you f**ked it up
Let's laugh at Garner
And Fatty Dunn
Cos B@stard Rovers
Are staying in League One

Cannot see Rovers messing this one up. They have pretty easy 9 games now although 5 are away

Wasn't the turning point for Brizzle us beating them at the Turf with 10 men and a Glenn Little wonder goal?
They never recovered and were relegated the season after

Re: Dare to dream
Not sure exactly when Bristol's poor run started but the game on the Turf Must have been early February as Payton's ban for getting sent off in that game prompted the signing of Ian Wright. I'm pretty sure Wright signed on Valentine's Day.

Even more remarkable in that season was the fact we still managed to lose 3/0 at home to Gillingham after this point in the season. Basically three teams choked really badly !

Re: Dare to dream
We also had an unbelievable run of away results too
Re: Dare to dream
Accrington play Notts County and Mansfield back to back in a couple of weeks, they are 3rd and 5th respectively. 2 positive results from those and they'd need an absolute collapse.
They're 8 clear of 4th, with a game in hand, which could easily turn to 11.
9 left to play and really only need about 4 wins

Still the best goal I've ever seen on the Turf. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote:Wasn't the turning point for Brizzle us beating them at the Turf with 10 men and a Glenn Little wonder goal?
Brizzle's implosion was entirely predictable. They were far too reliant on Jason 'Arms & Elbows' Roberts and Nathan Ellington for their goals. When their form dipped and the goals dried up, Rovers plummeted. Burnley, on the other hand, scored goals from all over the park and didn't rely entirely on Payton and Cooke. In fact, Cooke scored just once and Payton five times in the last nine games, out of a total of 19 goals.
For me, the realisation that automatic promotion was genuinely up for grabs was the away win at Oxford when Paul Weller scored a last minute header. Bedlam on the away end.

My wife thinks I'm losing it, keeps asking why every so often I have a smile on my face and chuckle to myself. I tell her I'm reading that thread on UTC about the bstrds again and getting that vision in my head of a Accy Stanley / Rovers half and half scarf.

Re: Dare to dream
You'd have to fancy Wigan to overhaul them. Shrewsbury's fixtures aren't too bad either, so it isn't a foregone conclusion. If Rovers were to drop into the play off zone, I think they would struggle. I quite fancy Plymouth Argyle, who have taken four points off Rovers in the regular season, to clinch the third promotion spot. Fingers and everything else crossed.
Re: Dare to dream
I'm hoping Shrewsbury and Wigan pick up max points from their games in hand.I just have a feeling in the water and it's a good one. Accrington Stanley will be Rovers' local derby next year and oh, oh, oh how I will laugh!
