WEST BROM by TRAIN
WEST BROM by TRAIN
Just a heads up for Clarets fans travelling to our game at West Brom by train.
I saw this on one of the fans guide websites................
....."The Hawthorns has its own Railway and Metro Station which are about a five minute walk from the Hawthorns ground. They can be reached from Birmingham New Street, either by first taking a train to Smethwick Galton Bridge and changing there for the Hawthorns, or by taking a Metro Tram (which run every eight minutes on Saturday afternoons) from directly outside New Street Station. Total journey time by train is around 20-25 minutes, whilst the Metro is around 13 minutes......
Travelling Down From The North West?
Matt Wharton informs me; 'If you are travelling down from the North West and your train calls at Wolverhampton, Then it is a lot easier to get to Hawthorns using the Midland Metro from Wolverhampton. The tram leaves from Bilston Street. You can either get off at the Kenrick Park stop for the Vine pub or the Hawthorns for stadium. Continuing by train from Wolverhampton into Birmingham New Street and then taking either a train or Metro back out to the Hawthorns will add 45 minutes to one hour to your journey time.'
So it seems getting off at Wolverhampton and getting the metro from there will save quite a bit of journey time. Also there is a Wetherspoons pub just up the road from Wolverhampton train station if anyone is interested in drinking!!
Wolves are away at Middlesbrough on Friday night(30th March) so shouldn`t be any problems there.

Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
The tram station is really easy post match as well as the exit from the away end funnels you that way. I parked at Bilston one game, really easy in and out, but I wasn't drinking so no pub involved. I'll be getting the tram up from the Jewellry Quarter for the game.
Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
Depending on where you park the way you have to leave the away end can add a few miles onto your journey back to the car. Even if you leave after an hour!!

Any tips on the best place to park and have a pint?

A few quotes frpm another thread -Barry_Chuckle wrote:Any tips on the best place to park and have a pint?
When I drove, I just headed to the ground( the main road ) , and on the left were some office spaces that were doing matchday parking at about £5.
It was on the main road, and the only thing I remember was there was a McDonalds about 100 yards down the road.
I couldn't have been much nearer the ground to be honest, afterwards it was a quick right out of the parking place and I was on the motorway in what seemed about 3 minutes.
Get yourselves up to the curry pub just up the railway track from the ground.
Excellent pre-match venue - wish I was going, just for that alone.

Went to the Vine years back to meet a Baggie mate, he took us on a route under the motorway and along the railway lines which ends up at the away end of the ground. Don't think it took too long.

Thanks Leisure, I'd not seen the other thread as I've been away.

Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
Is anyone going from Manchester Piccadilly instead of Preston to Wolverhampton tomorrow?
Trying to work out which is the best route.

We are going Man Road - Preston - Wolverhampton.Quickenthetempo wrote:Is anyone going from Manchester Piccadilly instead of Preston to Wolverhampton tomorrow?

However coming back we are going from Wolverhampton to Manchester Piccadilly simply because of train times.
There is a train back from Wolverhampton to Preston about 5.30pm but it will be very tight timewise trying to catch that train, which would get you back into Manchester Road about 8.15pm. The next train is 1 hour later getting back to Burnley at 9.15pm.
We are getting the 5.50pm Wolverhampton to Manchester arriving at Piccadilly at 7pm. Then probably X43 back or possibly train from Victoria with a pint in between!

Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
That's what I was thinking.
The tram looks the better option getting to the hawthorns from wolves.
But it's looking expensive now I have left it late to book. Might just pay on the train and see how it goes.

Tell ne about it!NL Claret wrote:Depending on where you park the way you have to leave the away end can add a few miles onto your journey back to the car. Even if you leave after an hour!!
It's easy pre game and then you come out and find that big gate is locked meaning a 2 mile detour (it feels like it anyway when you have been spanked).
Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
Trains to Man Vic have bus replacement from rochdale...may need extra time for M/cr to birmingham trains
Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
Just thought I would mention that we went on the tram from Wolverhampton to The Hawthorns, took around 25 minutes. They did a matchday return ticket for £3.20p. The tram station was around 5 minutes walk from the away turnstiles and would certainly travel again to West Brom that way.
(That`s if we ever play them again!)
Wolverhampton centre was packed with Clarets around lunchtime, you would have thought we were actually playing Wolves.

The tram from Birmingham New Street to the Hawthorns cost £3.70 matchday return, I think. Tram stop directly outside New Street Station. The journey also took about 20 minutes.

We went the same way, with a stop at the Great Western going and coming back.Targetman wrote:Just thought I would mention that we went on the tram from Wolverhampton to The Hawthorns, took around 25 minutes. Sounds to me like that Wolves coach which turned up at Turf Moor instead of Riverside, was actually a Wolverhampton tourist promotion group!

Re: WEST BROM by TRAIN
I was told about that by a Wolves fan on the tram to the match on Saturday. He said the Romanian coach driver got a little confused. What amused him more was that none of the fans on the coach noticed!IanMcL wrote:Sounds to me like that Wolves coach which turned up at Turf Moor instead of Riverside, was actually a Wolverhampton tourist promotion group!
