Ant Arrested
Ant Mcpartlin arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing his car in London.(BBC)
Had quite a few problems lately, hope he's ok. Hope everyone else is ok, too, if others involved.
Edit : Three year old girl taken to hospital, thought to be involved in the incident.

Guy has clearly got some problems. All rather sad and perhaps makes him an easy target. Needs help not criticism from people who obviously live perfect lives.

Be interesting to see if ITV suspends him, if that's even an option, I doubt they have the power? Probably go back to some posh rehab voluntarily.
The most important thing obviously is that everyone involved is ok.

You are right, of course, but when ANYBODY gets behind the wheel under the influence and injures other or conversely endangers motorists with their actions (Carlisle) then I`m afraid, the action has to take precedence over their mental state. If Ant would`ve hit my car and injured my 3-year old child, I would certainly not be saying "poor Ant, come ere and give me a hug."Woodleyclaret wrote:I dont like the proffesional Geordie but still feel all people struggling with mental health issues deserve compasion regardless of who they are.
Re: Ant Arrested
I would have had some sympathy but for his recent endorsement of online slots, we've to feel sorry for his addictions but he's allowed to make a few quid fuelling somebody else's misery.
Re: Ant Arrested
This. The bottom line is drink driving. There is a choice. Innocent people have been involved including a child. I don't want to see him on telly again.BroadIslandClaret wrote:You are right, of course, but when ANYBODY gets behind the wheel under the influence and injures other or conversely endangers motorists with their actions (Carlisle) then I`m afraid, the action has to take precedence over their mental state. We can punish drink/driving offenders so as to deter others.
We can also have compassion and treat alcohol related problems and depression.
The two are not mutually exclusive.

I have every sympathy for someone who is struggling with alcoholism, my dad had this problem and it ruined his life.
But if you are a millionaire then you can at least afford a bloody taxi so my sympathy goes to the 3 year old who seems to be getting forgotten in this.

Money does not make a difference to whether someone suffers from mental health issues. It does affect the decision to drink drive in this case as he could afford a full time chauffeur and any taxi.

He's had a few drinks and decided to drive. It's a stupid thing to do and we all know if we take that chance and crash we could be in prison.
They'l no doubt temp suspend the saturday night thing they do,and i'd imagine it will make a mess of their other high profile work until it's resolved.I'm pretty sure though a bang to rights guilty plea on DD gets to court pretty quickly. He'll no doubt plead some mental health/stress/alco "issues" which are all horsesh1t. But 1st offence he'll get a big ban big fine and i'd imagine a bit of community service due to there being an accident and he's famous.
DD per se,is pretty minor in the "famous people crimes" list and very very rarely leads to a direct dismissal.Personally i couldn't give a sh1t but i'm thankful for his and the young girls sake that this wasn't a hell of a lot worse

Re: Ant Arrested
I empathise with him as the very medium that made him into who he is today is likely to be a large part of the personal struggles he is dealing with. He was wrong to drink and drive, and fortunately no one was seriously injured in the incident. I hope the 3 year old doesn't have any long lasting anxiety issues from this either. It was a mistake, and his mental health will not be helped by carrying the burden of this incident as well. Hindsight is always wonderful in situations like this, isn't it...?
I hope, for his sake, that he removes himself from the public limelight and gets help, proper help - and if that means he is no longer on the TV then so be it - the last thing he needs is for pressure to continue with his TV life because other will lose out (financially).

I have always preferred Dec to Ant!
There is something about Ant that has always made me think he's not quite as nice as his act is portraying. He has an arrogance and cocksureness that would normally make me distrust a person and he often treats the public in some of his shows with complete disdain, just like Noel Edmonds did in Noels House Party!

Possibly behaves the way he does as a front to keep himself together whilst dealing with his demons, or not in this instance.
Maybe when he's recovered and back on the wagon you may see the real Ant and change your opinion of him.

I do believe this fella has mental issues, all caused by his celebrity and lifestyle, but the post above is correct. A good lawyer and a plead for understanding can get any muppet off with what is a crime. Very similar to all the athletes abusing drugs and then having a prescription but they took too much.
I have every sympathy for anybody with genuine mental problems but it is becoming the cop out of choice for celebs.

His mental health issues stemmed from a botched knee op and his over reliance on prescribed medication. This led to his addiction.piston broke wrote:I do believe this fella has mental issues, all caused by his celebrity and lifestyle, but the post above is correct. No details have yet come out about whether he’s been charged or not, but in my view, being a celebrity or in the public eye should have no bearing on any punishment. Nor should it in other cases where well known people find themselves in front or a judge

Mental health problems can be swept under the carpet all too easily instead of being dealt with as would a broken leg in an A&E department of a hospital.
But too many people want to and do ignore it.

With the greatest of respect it’s a little presumptuous to guage anyones views on MH based off a long begone experience at the old Keirby .( one of a good few) I’m glad the post got a laugh though as if you can’t have a chuckle at such drunken debauchery I guess ya never will.
My MH comment was referring to how it’s a very common get out clause for bad behaviour in celebs, therefore cheapening the genuine cases. Have a good day

It’s a fair point but to say that every DRink driver who ever was has a MH issue is just silly. While I don’t doubtbfor 1 min that people suffering from a MH may well “DD” Id have thought the vast majortiy fall into the idiotic /careless/chanced it after a few types .
Perhaps Ant/Dec has a serious MH issue ? Perhaps he just chanced it after his Sunday dinner?

In terms of your MH comment maybe you should have worded it like you have now rather than describing it as horsesh-it.
Nobody is saying what this guy did can be excused but his problems with alcohol and stress have been well documented so to say his MH issues are fabricated is as you like to put it a "little presumptious"

I think it’s fair to assume that Ant has mental health issues bearing in mind he spent the summer in a self imposed rehab.
Does that excuse his drink driving, no it doesn’t. It does however go some way to explaining howa well paid, well respected celebrity has got himself into this position.

I've never understood their (Ant & Dec) popularly. Apparently, their Saturday evening show is among the highest ratings on TV.
Also, Drink Driving doesn't automatically equate mental illness. Arrogance and selfishness, I would have thought.
