An excellent interview and Nick came across well and was very positive about his chances
Re: Nick Pope on Sky

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Cracking interview, well grounded chap - glad he’s a Claret
Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Outrageous that Joe Hart is in the squad. If Pope doesn't even get a game in these 2 friendlies, then Southgate is just like the other failures.
EDIT: Great interview.

He’s just there as someone with experience.Murger wrote:Outrageous that Joe Hart is in the squad. If Pope doesn't even get a game in these 2 friendlies, then Southgate is just like the other failures.
EDIT: Great interview.
The other 3 keepers have less than 10 caps between them.
Good to have someone there who’s been there and done it.
Don’t think he’ll be picked.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Agree. Joe Hart is in the squad as a very experienced player and apparently he's very good in the dressing room. He will help the 3 other competing goal keepers to settle and do their best for the team, whoever is selected. There was a lot of discussion about Butland v Pickford at the w/end. The media had either already forgotten that it was "clean sheet" v "conceded 3" in the Nick Pope v Joe Hart game the previous week or they know that this contest has already been decided.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote:He’s just there as someone with experience.

The opposition wont care less what Hart is like in the dressing room - it is between the sticks that counts, so for me it has to be Nick Pope on form alone.Paul Waine wrote:Agree. Joe Hart is in the squad as a very experienced player and apparently he's very good in the dressing room.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Agree. The opposition will only be concerned with beating the team that is on the pitch. But, having an experienced keeper in the dressing room, but not on the pitch (or the bench) may help the GK who is selected to perform at his best on the pitch. I don't think Hart will make the team - he may not even make the 23 in June. I think having Joe Hart with the squad now will help Nick Pope and may the 2 other inexperienced keepers prepare for the World Cup.Mayoclaret wrote:The opposition wont care less what Hart is like in the dressing room - it is between the sticks that counts, so for me it has to be Nick Pope on form alone.

I also want Nick Pope to get the No 1 spot - unless Tom Heaton recovers strongly in the remaining weeks of the season - though chances of that are at best slim.

On the radio a journalist was speaking very highly of pope, he said he should get game time as he is the form keeper. He also said that he thinks Southgate will pick butland because of the history with him

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Pope is the one with momentum. The SKY news clips all quoting his interview. He is the only keeper getting any air time. Comments like “it’s not a fluke to get selected for the England squad”, “I want to play for England”. Soundbites like that being released change the public perception. Dare I say a orchestrated media campaign by England?

Dare I remind you of a similar media campaign for Pickford until quite recently when his star seemed to disappear from the heavens!claret wizard wrote:Pope is the one with momentum. Re: Nick Pope on Sky
He'd do well to remind them that he didn't have any Premier League experience 6 months back and that didn't hold him back. Before that every step through the leagues was a step into a level he hadn't had previous experience of. This step should be no different to all the others he's taken with aplomb.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Interesting when you look at the world cup in South Africa, two out of form goalkeepers plus a young Joe Hart doing well went, Joe Hart did not play and the two out of form GK's did, remember what happened then! Certainly hope history will not repeat itself but will not be surprised if it does.
The two friendly's will give a good indication, if NP does not play then he will not be going to Russia unless one of the other 3 is injured.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Also saw that J. Hart was fitted for his England suit ready for Russia while they are together training, think that's a good indication he is going, can not believe that all the players training together are getting fitted for England suits. Or are these suits just for these friendly's, asking because I have no idea if those training now for the two friendly's all get suit's now even if not going to Russia, seems a bit extravagant to me but ................

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
To be fair, Hart appears to be a good egg in the squad. Make him 3rd keeper and drop one of the others. It's not like he's going to get a game that way, but offers experience, etc. to the squad.

Hart's tournament experience:
2010: Sat on the bench
2012: Embarrassed in a penalty shootout
2014: Finished bottom of the group
2016: Made two massive errors
As if his experience is going to be any use to us.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
If Pope isnt given a proper chance then Southgate needs to get another job. The only way Pope doesnt play is if Southgate bottles it and goes for a bit more experience. I was nervous about Pope taking goal for us and he took the step up in his stride. He will do the same playing for England. He has no demons or bad experiences and simply has to play a part.

They need to ask the UFO expert Nick Pope about the Sky.
Re: Nick Pope on Sky
He handled the questions very well. He is clearly an intelligent lad. He managed the difficult Joe Hart question very well
Re: Nick Pope on Sky
A bit more from Nick in front of the press.
His journey to where he is now is amazing.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Two games four goalkeepers, easy to see the maths there with a 45 for each of them.
I’d take Hart purely for that tournament experience and the fact he’s been there and done it, admittedly not as far as we’d like.
One thing for Pope that I hope doesn’t get exposed is the fact England will play with a much different defensive line to what he’s used to. Can look back at Heaton v France where he parried shots away that would’ve been bread and butter for Mee and Keane but ended up in the net. Time will tell but will be unbelievable if we see two clarets on the pitch for England at the same time.

Stuart Pearce has just said on talksport that none of the 4 GK's have stood out this season, all suffering with either injury or loss of form/confidence.
Who the **** has he been watching this season?
Someone different to the rest of us clearly.

Re: Nick Pope on Sky
Distribution lets him down. And doubt he'll get picked for world cup at this late stage, especially when you bear in mind this is his first season in PL.
